For a Kähler manifold $X$ equipped with a prequantum line bundle $L$, we give a geometric construction of a family of representations of the Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization algebra $(C^\infty(X)[[\hbar]],\star_{BT})$ parametrized by points $z_0 \in X$. The key idea is to use peak sections to suitably localize the Hilbert spaces $H^{0}\left(X,L^{\otimes m}\right)$ around $z_{0}$ in the large volume limit.
We investigate the Berezin-Toeplitz operators that operate on the geometric quantized space corresponding to the $SO(3)$-Witten-Chern-Simons theory. We conjecture that the $SO(3)$-Berezin-Toeplitz operators quantized from the A-polynomial annihilate the corresponding $SO(3)$-knot states.
For phase-space manifolds which are compact Kaehler manifolds relations between the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization and the quantization with the help of Berezin's coherent states and symbols are studied. First the results on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of arbitrary compact Kaehler manifolds due to Bordemann, Meinrenken and Schlichenmaier are recalled. It is shown that the covariant symbol map is adjoint to the Toeplitz map. The Berezin transform for compact Kaehler manifolds is discussed. We study the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on Kaehler manifolds. We explain first how to compute various associated asymptotic expansions, then we compute explicitly the first terms of the expansion of the kernel of the Berezin-Toeplitz operators, and of the composition of two Berezin-Toeplitz operators. As application we estimate the norm of Donaldson's Q-operator.
We survey recent results about the asymptotic expansion of Toeplitz operators and their kernels, as well as Berezin-Toeplitz quantization. We deal in particular with calculation of the first coefficients of these expansions.
This article is a review on Berezin-Toeplitz operator and Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization for compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds. The basic objects, concepts, and results are given. This concerns the correct semi-classical limit behaviour of the operator quantization, the unique Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization (star product), covariant and contravariant Berezin symbols, and Berezin transform. Other related objects and constructions are also discussed.
In this lecture results on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of arbitrary compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds are presented. These results are obtained in joint work with M. Bordemann and E. Meinrenken. The existence of the Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization is also covered. Recent results obtained in joint work with A. Karabegov on the asymptotic expansion of the Berezin transform for arbitrary quantizable compact Kaehler manifolds are explained. As an application the asymptotic expansion of the Fubini-Study fundamental form under the coherent state embedding is considered. Some comm…
We give a proof of a slightly refined version of Gammelgaard's graph theoretic formula for Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on (pseudo-)Kaehler manifolds. Our proof has the merit of giving an alternative approach to Karabegov-Schlichenmaier's identification theorem. We also identify the dual Karabegov-Bordemann-Waldmann star product.
For arbitrary compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds it is shown how a natural formal deformation quantization (star product) can be obtained via Berezin-Toeplitz operators. Results on their semi-classical behaviour (their asymptotic expansion) due to Bordemann, Meinrenken and Schlichenmaier are used in an essential manner. It is shown that the star product is null on constants and fulfills parity. A trace is constructed and the relation to deformation quantization by geometric quantization is given.
This talk reports on results on the deformation quantization (star products) and on approximative operator representations for quantizable compact K"ahler manifolds obtained via Berezin-Toeplitz operators. After choosing a holomorphic quantum line bundle the Berezin-Toeplitz operator associated to a differentiable function on the manifold is the operator defined by multiplying global holomorphic sections of the line bundle with this function and projecting the differentiable section back to the subspace of holomorphic sections. The results were obtained in (respectively based on) joint work wi…
Invited lecture at the XIV-th workshop on geometric methods in physics, Bialowieza, Poland, July 9-15, 1995. In this lecture results are reviewed obtained by the author together with Martin Bordemann and Eckhard Meinrenken on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of compact Kaehler manifolds. Using global Toeplitz operators, approximation results for the quantum operators are shown. From them it follows that the quantum operators have the correct classical limit. A star product deformation of the Poisson algebra is constructed.
We give a complete identification of the deformation quantization which was obtained from the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on an arbitrary compact Kaehler manifold. The deformation quantization with the opposite star-product proves to be a differential deformation quantization with separation of variables whose classifying form is explicitly calculated. Its characteristic class (which classifies star-products up to equivalence) is obtained. The proof is based on the microlocal description of the Szegoe kernel of a strictly pseudoconvex domain given by Boutet de Monvel and Sjoestrand.
For compact quantizable Kähler manifolds certain naturally defined star products and their constructions are reviewed. The presentation centers around the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization scheme which is explained. As star products the Berezin-Toeplitz, Berezin, and star product of geometric quantization are treated in detail. It is shown that all three are equivalent. A prominent role is played by the Berezin transform and its asymptotic expansion. A few ideas on two general constructions of star products of separation of variables type by Karabegov and by Bordemann--Waldmann respectively are gi…
We give a new construction of symbols of the differential operators on the sections of a quantum line bundle $L$ over a Kaehler manifold $M$ using the natural contravariant connection on $L$. These symbols are the functions on the tangent bundle $TM$ polynomial on fibres. For high tensor powers of $L$, the asymptotics of the composition of these symbols leads to the star product of a deformation quantization with separation of variables on $TM$ corresponding to some pseudo-Kaehler structure on $TM$. Surprisingly, this star product is intimately related to the formal symplectic groupoid with se…
Following Nag-Sullivan, we study the representation of the group ${\rm Diff}^+(S^1)$ of diffeomorphisms of the circle on the Hilbert space of holomorphic functions. Conformal welding provides a triangular decompositions for the corresponding symplectic transformations. We apply Berezin formalism and lift this decomposition to operators acting on the Fock space. This lift provides quantization of conformal welding, gives a new representative of the Bott-Virasoso cocylce class, and leads to a surprising identity for the Takhtajan-Teo energy functional on ${\rm Diff}^+(S^1)$.
This work considers a formal deformation of the quantum disc (it is developed via an application of the Berezin method) and presents an explicit formula for this deformation.
The relations between the infinite dimensional geometry of $q_R$-conformal symmetries at $q_R\to\infty$, Berezin quantization of the Lobachevskii plane and Karasev-Maslov asymptotic quantization are explicated. Some aspects of the ``approximate'' representation theory are discussed.
We use Berezin's quantization procedure to obtain a formal $U_q su_{1,1}$-invariant deformation of the quantum disc. Explicit formulae for the associated q-bidifferential operators are produced.
It is shown that the theory of spherical Harish-Chandra modules naturally provides the algebras of covariant, contravariant and mixed symbols on generalized flag manifolds. The general proof of the correspondence principle for all these symbol algebras is given.
We define co-Toeplitz operators, a new class of Hilbert space operators, in order to define a co-Toeplitz quantization scheme that is dual to the Toeplitz quantization scheme introduced by the author in the setting of symbols that come from a possibly non-commutative algebra with unit. In the present dual setting the symbols come from a possibly non-co-commutative co-algebra with co-unit. However, this co-Toeplitz quantization is a usual quantization scheme in the sense that to each symbol we assign a densely defined linear operator acting in a fixed Hilbert space. Creation and annihilation op…
This is a survey on our recent works which reveal new relationships among deformation quantization, geometric quantization, Berezin-Toeplitz quantization and BV quantization on Kähler manifolds.
In this note we quantize the free $ * $-algebra generated by finitely many variables, which is a new example of the theory of Toeplitz quantization of $ * $-algebras as developed previously by the author. This is achieved by defining Toeplitz operators with symbols in that non-commutative free $ * $-algebra. These are densely defined operators acting in a Hilbert space. Then creation and annihilation operators are introduced as special cases of Toeplitz operators, and their properties are studied.

The algebraic properties of a strict deformation quantization are analysed on the classical phase space $\bR^{2n}$. The corresponding quantization maps enable us to take the limit for $\hbar \to 0$ of a suitable sequence of algebraic vector states induced by $\hbar$-dependent eigenvectors of several quantum models, in which the sequence converges to a probability measure on $\bR^{2n}$, defining a classical algebraic state. The observables are here represented in terms of a Berezin quantization map which associates classical observables (functions on the phase space) to quantum observables (ele…
Let $\G$ be any cocompact, discrete subgroup of $\pslr$. In this paper we find estimates for the predual and the uniform Banach space norms in the von Neumann algebras associated with the Berezin' s quantization of a compact Riemann surface $\Bbb D/\G$. As a corollary, for large values of the deformation parameter $1/h$, these von Neumann algebras are isomorphic. Using the results in [AS], [AC], [GHJ] on the von Neumann dimension of the Hilbert spaces in the discrete series of unitary representations of $PSL(2,\Bbb R)$, as left modules over $Γ$ we deduce that the fundamental group ([MvN]) of t…
In this paper we use the description of free group factors as the von Neumann algebras of Berezin's deformation of the upper half-plane, modulo PSL$(2,{\Bbb Z})$. The derivative, in the deformation parameter, of the product in the corresponding algebras, is a positive Hochschild 2-cocycle, defined on a dense subalgebra. By analyzing the structure of the cocycle we prove that there is a generator $\cal L$ for a quantum dynamical semigroup that implements the cocycle on a strongly dense subalgebra. For $x$ in the dense subalgebra, ${\cal L}(x)$ is the (diffusion) operator $$ {\cal L}(x)=Λ(x)-(1/…
We use operator algebras and operator theory to obtain new result concerning Berezin quantization of compact Kähler manifolds. Our main tool is the notion of subproduct systems of finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces, which enables all involved objects, such as the Toeplitz operators, to be very conveniently expressed in terms of shift operators compressed to a subspace of full Fock space. This subspace is not required to be contained in the symmetric Fock space, so from finite-dimensional matrix algebras we can construct noncommutative manifolds with extra structure generalizing that of a projec…
Second quantization of a classical nonrelativistic one-particle system as a deformation quantization of the Schrodinger spinless field is considered. Under the assumption that the phase space of the Schrodinger field is $C^{\infty}$, both, the Weyl-Wigner-Moyal and Berezin deformation quantizations are discussed and compared. Then the geometric quantum mechanics is also quantized using the Berezin method under the assumption that the phase space is $CP^{\infty}$ endowed with the Fubini-Study Kahlerian metric. Finally, the Wigner function for an arbitrary particle state and its evolution equati…
