The existence of a natural and projectively equivariant quantization in the sense of Lecomte [20] was proved recently by M. Bordemann [4], using the framework of Thomas-Whitehead connections. We give a new proof of existence using the notion of Cartan projective connections and we obtain an explicit formula in terms of these connections. Our method yields the existence of a projectively equivariant quantization if and only if an \sl(m+1,\R)-equivariant quantization exists in the flat situation in the sense of [18], thus solving one of the problems left open by M. Bordemann.
In this paper, we analyse the question of existence of a natural and projectively equivariant symbol calculus, using the theory of projective Cartan connections. We establish a close relationship between the existence of such a natural symbol calculus and the existence of an \sl(m+1,\R)-equivariant calculus over \R^{m} in the sense of [15,1]. Moreover we show that the formulae that hold in the non-critical situations over \R^{m} for the \sl(m+1,\R)-equivariant calculus can be directly generalized to an arbitrary manifold by simply replacing the partial derivatives by invariant differentiations…
In this paper we define strongly projectively flatness of holomorphic maps into the complex Grassmannian manifold, which is a kind of generalization of holomorphic maps into the complex projective space and prove a rigidity of equivariant strongly projectively flat maps of compact simply connected homogeneous Kähler manifolds.
In [3], the authors showed the existence and the uniqueness of a sl(m+1,\R)-equivariant quantization in the non-critical situations. The curved generalization of the sl(m+1,\R)-equivariant quantization is the natural and projectively equivariant quantization. In [1] and [7], the existence of such a quantization was proved in two different ways. In this paper, we show that this quantization is not unique.
We study the existence of natural and projectively equivariant quantizations for differential operators acting between order 1 vector bundles over a smooth manifold M. To that aim, we make use of the Thomas-Whitehead approach of projective structures and construct a Casimir operator depending on a projective Cartan connection. We attach a scalar parameter to every space of differential operators, and prove the existence of a quantization except when this parameter belongs to a discrete set of resonant values.
In this paper, we first provide an updated survey of the geometry of complex Cartan spaces. New characterizations for some particular classes of complex Cartan spaces are pointed out, e.g. Landsberg-Cartan, strongly Berwald-Cartan and others. We introduce the Cartan-Randers spaces which offer examples of Berwald-Cartan and strongly Berwald-Cartan spaces. Then, we investigate the complex geodesic curves of a complex Cartan space, using the image by Legendre transformation ($\mathcal{L}-$ duality) of complex geodesic curves of a complex Finsler space. Assuming the weakly Kähler condition for a c…
We investigate the concept of projectively equivariant quantization in the framework of super projective geometry. When the projective superalgebra pgl(p+1|q) is simple, our result is similar to the classical one in the purely even case: we prove the existence and uniqueness of the quantization except in some critical situations. When the projective superalgebra is not simple (i.e. in the case of pgl(n|n)\not\cong sl(n|n)), we show the existence of a one-parameter family of equivariant quantizations. We also provide explicit formulas in terms of a generalized divergence operator acting on supe…
In [8], P. Lecomte conjectured the existence of a natural and projectively equivariant quantization. In [1], M. Bordemann proved this existence using the framework of Thomas-Whitehead connections. In [9], we gave a new proof of the same theorem thanks to the Cartan connections. After these works there was no explicit formula for the quantization. In this paper, we give this formula using the formula in terms of Cartan connections given in [9]. This explicit formula constitutes the generalization to any order of the formulae at second and third orders soon published by Bouarroudj in [2] and [3]…
We extend projectively equivariant quantization and symbol calculus to symbols of pseudo-differential operators. An explicit expression in terms of hypergeometric functions with noncommutative arguments is given. Some examples are worked out, one of them yielding a quantum length element on $S^3$.
Let M be a manifold endowed with a symmetric affine connection $Γ.$ The aim of this paper is to describe a quantization map between the space of second-order polynomials on the cotangent bundle T^{*} M and the space of second-order linear differential operators, both viewed as modules over the group of diffeomorphisms and the Lie algebra of vector fields on M. This map is an isomorphism, for almost all values of certain constants, and it depend only on the projective class of the affine connection $Γ.$
We prove the existence and uniqueness of a *projectively equivariant symbol map*, which is an isomorphism between the space of bidifferential operators acting on tensor densities over $R^n$ and that of their symbols, when both are considered as modules over an imbedding of $sl(n+1,\R)$ into polynomial vector fields. The coefficients of the bidifferential operators are densities of an arbitrary weight. We obtain the result for all values of this weight, except for a set of critical ones, which does not contain 0. In the case of second order operators, we give explicit formulas and examine in de…
In this article, we will discuss a new operator $d_{C}$ on $W(\mathfrak{g})\otimesΩ^{*}(M)$ and to construct a new Cartan model for equivariant cohomology. We use the new Cartan model to construct the corresponding BRST model and Weil model, and discuss the relations between them.
The spaces of higher-order differential operators (in Dimension 1|2), which are modules over the stringy Lie superalgebra K(2), are isomorphic to the corresponding spaces of symbols as orthosymplectic modules in non resonant cases. Such an osp (2|2)-equivariant quantization, which has been given in second-order differential operators case, keeps existing and unique. We calculate its explicit formula that provides extension in particular order cases.
The spaces of linear differential operators on ${\mathbb{R}}^n$ acting on tensor densities of degree $λ$ and the space of functions on $T^*{\mathbb{R}}^n$ which are polynomial on the fibers are not isomorphic as modules over the Lie algebra $\Vect({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ of vector fields on ${\mathbb{R}}^n$. However, these modules are isomorphic as $sl(n+1,{\mathbb{R}})$-modules where $sl(n+1,{\mathbb{R}})\subset \Vect({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ is the Lie algebra of infinitesimal projective transformations. In addition, such an $sl_{n+1}$-equivariant bijection is unique (up to normalization). This leads to a …
In this paper, we prove that every m-th root metric with isotropic mean Berwald curvature reduces to a weakly Berwald metric. Then we show that an m-th root metric with isotropic mean Landsberg curvature is a weakly Landsberg metric. We find necessary and sufficient condition under which conformal $β$-change of an m-th root metric be locally dually flat. Finally, we prove that the conformal $β$-change of locally projectively flat m-th root metrics are locally Minkowskian.
We study the 8 natural GL equivariant geometric realization questions for the space of generalized algebraic curvature tensors. All but one of them is solvable; a non-zero projectively flat Ricci antisymmetric generalized algebraic curvature is not geometrically realizable by a projectively flat Ricci antisymmetric torsion free connection.
We construct an explicit scheme to associate to any potential symbol an operator acting between sections of natural bundles (associated to irreducible representations) for a so-called AHS-structure. Outside of a finite set of critical (or resonant) weights, this procedure gives rise to a quantization, which is intrinsic to this geometric structure. In particular, this provides projectively and conformally equivariant quantizations for arbitrary symbols on general (curved) projective and conformal structures.
Let G be a compact, connected Lie group, acting smoothly on a manifold M. Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson described a small Cartan model for the equivariant cohomology of M, quasi-isomorphic to the standard Cartan complex of equivariant differential forms. In this paper, we construct an explicit cochain map from the small Cartan model into the standard Cartan model, inducing an isomorphism in cohomology. The construction involves the solution of a remarkable inhomogeneous Maurer-Cartan equation. This solution has further applications to the theory of transgression in the Weil algebra, and to the C…
This note shows the compatibility of the differential geometric and the topological formulations of equivariant characteristic classes for a compact connected Lie group action.
We use contact geometry to describe the monoid of projectively equivariant meromorphic differential operators on a complex curve, quantization of which generalizes known constructions of classical equivariants to non-commutative function algebras in several variables.
Suppose G is a compact Lie group and N is a closed normal subgroup of G acting freely on a smooth manifold X. The Cartan theorem alluded to in the title postulates the existence of a natural isomorphism between the G-equivariant cohomology X and the G/N-equivariant cohomology of X/N. In this note we use J. Kalkman's explicit isomorphism between the Cartan and Weil models of equivariant cohomology to show that 1) Cartan's theorem is a simple consequence of Chern-Weil's transgression formula and 2) explicitly describe this isomorphism at the cochain level.
We define the unique (up to normalization) symbol map from the space of linear differential operators on $R^n$ to the space of polynomial on fibers functions on $T^* R^n$, equivariant with respect to the Lie algebra of projective transformations $sl_{n+1}\subset\Vect(R^n)$. We apply the constructed $sl_{n+1}$-invariant symbol to studying of the natural one-parameter family of $\Vect(M)$-modules on the space of linear differential operators on an arbitrary manifold M. Each of the $\Vect(M)$-action from this family can be interpreted as a deformation of the standard $\Vect(M)$-module $S(M)$ of s…
The existence of a natural and projectively invariant quantization in the sense of P. Lecomte [Progr. Theoret. Phys. Suppl. (2001), no. 144, 125-132] was proved by M. Bordemann [math.DG/0208171], using the framework of Thomas-Whitehead connections. We extend the problem to the context of supermanifolds and adapt M. Bordemann's method in order to solve it. The obtained quantization appears as the natural globalization of the $\mathfrak{pgl}({n+1|m})$-equivariant quantization on ${\mathbb{R}}^{n|m}$ constructed by P. Mathonet and F. Radoux in [arXiv:1003.3320]. Our quantization is also a prolong…
We describe the Cartan and Weil models of twisted equivariant cohomology together with the Cartan homomorphism among the two, and we extend the Chern-Weil homomorphism to the twisted equivariant cohomology. We clarify that in order to have a cohomology theory, the coefficients of the twisted equivariant cohomology must be taken in the completed polynomial algebra over the dual Lie algebra of $G$. We recall the relation between the equivariant cohomology of exact Courant algebroids and the twisted equivariant cohomology, and we show how to endow with a generalized complex structure the finite d…
We prove the existence and uniqueness of a projectively equivariant symbol map (in the sense of Lecomte and Ovsienko) for the spaces $D_p$ of differential operators transforming p-forms into functions. These results hold over a smooth manifold endowed with a flat projective structure. As an application, we classify the Vect(M)-equivariant maps from $D_p$ to $D_q$ over any manifold M, recovering and improving earlier results by N. Poncin. This provides the complete answer to a question raised by P. Lecomte about the extension of a certain intrinsic homotopy operator.
The concept of conformally equivariant quantizations was introduced by Duval, Lecomte and Ovsienko in \cite{DLO} for manifolds endowed with flat conformal structures. They obtained results of existence and uniqueness (up to normalization) of such a quantization procedure. A natural generalization of this concept is to seek for a quantization procedure, over a manifold $M$, that depends on a pseudo-Riemannian metric, is natural and is invariant with respect to a conformal change of the metric. The existence of such a procedure was conjectured by P. Lecomte in \cite{Leconj} and proved by C. Duva…
In [5], P. Lecomte conjectured the existence of a natural and conformally invariant quantization. In [7], we gave a proof of this theorem thanks to the theory of Cartan connections. In this paper, we give an explicit formula for the natural and conformally invariant quantization of trace-free symbols thanks to the method used in [7] and to tools already used in [8] in the projective setting. This formula is extremely similar to the one giving the natural and projectively invariant quantization in [8].
This article is a survey of recent work of the authors developing a new approach to quantization based on the equivariance with respect to some Lie group of symmetries. Examples are provided by conformal and projective differential geometry: given a smooth manifold M endowed with a flat conformal/projective structure, we establish a canonical isomorphism between the space of symmetric contravariant tensor fields on M and the space of differential operators on M. This leads to a notion of conformally/projectively invariant star-product on $T^*M$.
For a compact Lie group acting on a smooth manifold, we define the differential cohomology of a certain quotient stack involving principal bundles with connection. This produces differential equivariant cohomology groups that map to the Cartan-Weil equivariant forms and to Borel's equivariant integral cohomology. We show the Chern-Weil homomorphism for equivariant vector bundles with connection naturally factors through differential equivariant cohomology.
Consider a manifold endowed with the action of a Lie group. We study the relation between the cohomology of the Cartan complex and the equivariant cohomology by using the equivariant De Rham complex developed by Getzler, and we show that the cohomology of the Cartan complex lies on the 0-th row of the second page of a spectral sequence converging to the equivariant cohomology. We use this result to generalize a result of Witten on the equivalence of absence of anomalies in gauge WZW actions on compact Lie groups to the existence of equivariant extension of the WZW term, to the case on which th…
Let $G$ be a connected and non-necessarily compact Lie group acting on a connected manifold $M$. In this short note we announce the following result: for a $G$-invariant closed differential form on $M$, the existence of a closed equivariant extension in the Cartan model for equivariant cohomology is equivalent to the existence of an extension in the homotopy quotient.
Projective connections first appeared in Cartan's papers in the 1920's. Since then they have resurfaced periodically in, for example, integrable systems and perhaps most recently in the context of so called projectively equivariant quantisation. We recall the notion of projective connection and describe its relation with the algebra of densities on a manifold. In particular, we construct a Laplace-type operator on functions using a Thomas projective connection and a symmetric contravariant tensor of rank 2 (`upper metric').
Let M be a manifold and g a Lie algebra acting on M. Differential forms Omega(M) carry a natural action of Lie derivatives L(x) and contractions I(x) of fundamental vector fields for x \in g. Contractions (anti-) commute with each other, [I(x), I(y)]=0. Together with the de Rham differential, they satisfy the Cartan's magic formula [d, I(x)]=L(x). In this paper, we define a differential graded Lie algebra Dg, where instead of commuting with each other, contractions form a free Lie superalgebra. It turns out that central extensions of Dg are classified (under certain assumptions) by invariant h…
We equip the whole tangent space $TM$ to a hyperbolic manifold $M$ (of constant sectional curvature -1) with a natural metric in an intrinsic way, so that the isometries of $M$ extend to isometries of $TM$ by holomorphic continuation. The image to the tangent space to a geodesic is equivalent to a hyperbolic disk. In the case of hyperbolic space, we exhibit an equivariant diffeomorphism between $TM$ and the fourth symmetric complex domain of E. Cartan, also known as the Lie ball. The closure of the Lie ball appears as a horospheric compactification of the tangent bundle to hyperbolic space, an…
