We consider the Kudla-Millson lift from elliptic modular forms of weight (p+q)/2 to closed q-forms on locally symmetric spaces corresponding to the orthogonal group O(p,q). We study the L^2-norm of the lift following the Rallis inner product formula. We compute the contribution at the Archimedian place. For locally symmetric spaces associated to even unimodular lattices, we obtain an explicit formula for the L^2-norm of the lift, which often implies that the lift is injective. For O(p,2) we discuss how such injectivity results imply the surjectivity of the Borcherds lift.
In \cite{km2}, Kudla and Millson constructed a $q$-form $φ_{KM}$ on an orthogonal symmetric space using Howe's differential operators. It is a crucial ingredient in their theory of theta lifting. This form can be seen as a Thom form of a real oriented vector bundle. In \cite{mq} Mathai and Quillen constructed a {\em canonical} Thom form and we show how to recover the Kudla-Millson form via their construction. A similar result was obtained by \cite{garcia} for signature $(2,q)$ in case the symmetric space is hermitian and we extend it to an arbitrary signature.
We consider the Kudla-Millson theta series associated to a quadratic space of signature $(N,N)$. By combining a `see-saw' argument with the Siegel-Weil formula, we show that its (regularized) integral along a torus attached to a totally real field of degree $N$ is the diagonal restriction of an Eisenstein series. It allows us to express the Fourier coefficients of the diagonal restriction as intersection numbers, which generalizes a result of Darmon-Pozzi-Vonk to totally real fields.
We present some applications of the Kudla-Millson and the Millson theta lift. The two lifts map weakly holomorphic modular functions to vector valued harmonic Maass forms of weight $3/2$ and $1/2$, respectively. We give finite algebraic formulas for the coefficients of Ramanujan's mock theta functions $f(q)$ and $ω(q)$ in terms of traces of CM-values of a weakly holomorphic modular function. Further, we construct vector valued harmonic Maass forms whose shadows are unary theta functions, and whose holomorphic parts have rational coefficients. This yields a rationality result for the coefficien…
The theta correspondence has been an important tool in studying cycles in locally symmetric spaces of orthogonal type. In this paper, we establish for O(p,2) an adjointness result between Borcherds' singular theta lift and the Kudla-Millson theta lift. We extend this result to arbitrary signature by introducing a new Borcherds lift for O(p,q). On the geometric side, this lift can be interpreted as a differential character in the sense of Cheeger and Simons.
Recently, Funke and Hofmann constructed a singular theta lift of Borcherds type for the dual reductive pair $U(1,1)\times U(p,q)$, $p,q\geq 1$, the input functions of which are harmonic weak Maass forms of weight $k= 2-p-q$. In the present paper, we give an explicit evaluation of the Fourier-Jacobi expansion of the lift. For this purpose, we adapt a method introduced by Kudla in his paper 'Another product for a Borcherds form'. As an application, in the case $U(p,1)$ we recover a new infinite product expansion associated to a Borcherds form, analogous to the case $O(p,2)$ treated by Kudla.
By adapting the work of Kudla and Millson we obtain a lifting of cuspidal cohomology classes for the symmetric space associated to GO(V) for an indefinite rational quadratic space V of even dimension to holomorphic Siegel modular forms on GSp_n(A). For n=2 we prove Thom's Lemma for hyperbolic 3-space, which together with results of Kudla and Millson imply an interpretation of the Fourier coefficients of the theta lift as period integrals of the cohomology class over certain cycles. This allows us to prove the p-integrality of the lift for a particular choice of Schwartz function for almost all…
We define a regularized theta lift from SL_2 to orthogonal groups over totally real fields. It takes harmonic `Whittaker forms' to automorphic Green functions and weakly holomorphic Whittaker forms to meromorphic modular forms on orthogonal groups with zeros and poles supported on special divisors, generalizing Borcherds' work on automorphic products. To prove our results we use the spectral expansion of the lift and study its relationship with the cohomological theta lift of Kudla and Millson.
With applications in the Kudla program in mind we employ singular theta lifts for the reductive dual pair $U(p,q)\times U(1,1)$ to construct two different kinds of Green forms for codimension $q$-cycles in Shimura varieties associated to unitary groups. We establish an adjointness result between our singular theta lift and the Kudla-Millson lift. Further, we compare the two Greens forms and obtain modularity for the generating function of the difference of the two Green forms. Finally, we show that the Green forms obtained by the singular theta lift satisfy an eigenvalue equation for the Lapla…
We show that BPS jumping loci -- loci in the moduli space of string compactifications where the number of BPS states jumps in an upper semi-continuous manner -- naturally appear as Fourier coefficients of (vector space-valued) automorphic forms. For the case of $T^2$ compactification, the jumping loci are governed by a modular form studied by Hirzebruch and Zagier, while the jumping loci in K3 compactification appear in a story developed by Oda and Kudla-Millson in arithmetic geometry. We also comment on some curious related automorphy in the physics of black hole attractors and flux vacua.
We prove that the coefficients of certain weight -1/2 harmonic Maass forms are traces of singular moduli for weak Maass forms. To prove this theorem, we construct a theta lift from spaces of weight -2 harmonic weak Maass forms to spaces of weight -1/2 vector-valued harmonic weak Maass forms on Mp_2(Z), a result which is of independent interest. We then prove a general theorem which guarantees (with bounded denominator) when such Maass singular moduli are algebraic. As an example of these results, we derive a formula for the partition function p(n) as a finite sum of algebraic numbers which lie…
In the paper, we show that $λ(z_1) -λ(z_2)$, $λ(z_1)$ and $1-λ(z_1)$ are all Borcherds products in $X(2) \times X(2)$. We then use the big CM value formula of Bruinier, Kudla, and Yang to give explicit factorization formulas for the norms of $λ(\frac{d+\sqrt d}2)$, $1-λ(\frac{d+\sqrt d}2)$, and $λ(\frac{d_1+\sqrt{d_1}}2) -λ(\frac{d_2+\sqrt{d_2}}2)$, with the latter under the condition $(d_1, d_2)=1$. Finally, we use these results to show that $λ(\frac{d+\sqrt d}2)$ is always an algebraic integer and can be easily used to construct units in the ray class field of $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d})$ of modul…
We study special values of regularized theta lifts at complex multiplication (CM) points. In particular, we show that CM values of Borcherds products can be expressed in terms of finitely many Fourier coefficients of certain harmonic weak Maaß forms of weight one. As it turns out, these coefficients are logarithms of algebraic integers whose prime ideal factorization is determined by special cycles on an arithmetic curve. Our results imply a conjecture of Duke and Li and give a new proof of the modularity of a certain arithmetic generating series of weight one studied by Kudla, Rapoport and Ya…
