We prove that the von Neumann algebra generated by q-gaussians is not injective as soon as the dimension of the underlying Hilbert space is greater than 1. Our approach is based on a vector valued Khintchine type inequality for Wick products. The same proof also works for the more general setting of a Yang-Baxter deformation. Our techniques can also be extended to the so called q-Araki-Woods von Neumann algebras recently introduced by Hiai. In this latter case, we obtain the non injectivity under some asssumption on the spectral set of the positive operator associated with the deformation.
We study certain $q$-deformed analogues of the maximal abelian subalgebras of the group von Neumann algebras of free groups. The radial subalgebra is defined for Hecke deformed von Neumann algebras of the Coxeter group $(\mathbb{Z}/{2\mathbb{Z}})^{\star k}$ and shown to be a maximal abelian subalgebra which is singular and with Pukánszky invariant $\{\infty\}$. Further all non-equal generator masas in the $q$-deformed Gaussian von Neumann algebras are shown to be mutually non-unitarily conjugate.
The generating abelian subalgebras arsing from vectors in the ergodic component of Hiai's construction of the q-deformed Araki-Woods von Neumann algebras are quasi-split.
The $q$-deformed Araki-Woods von Neumann algebras $Γ_q(\mathcal{H}_\mathbb{R}, U_t)^{\prime \prime}$ are factors for all $q\in (-1,1)$ whenever $dim(\mathcal{H}_\mathbb{R})\geq 3$. When $dim(\mathcal{H}_\mathbb{R})=2$ they are factors as well for all $q$ so long as the parameter defining $(U_t)$ is `small' or $1$ $($trivial$)$ as the case may be.
We introduce the notion of Zimmer amenability for actions of discrete quantum groups on von Neumann algebras. We prove generalizations of several fundamental results of the theory in the noncommutative case. In particular, we give a characterization of Zimmer amenability of an action $α:\Bbb G\curvearrowright N$ in terms of $\hat{\Bbb{G}}$-injectivity of the von Neumann algebra crossed product $N\ltimes_α\Bbb G$. As an application we show that the actions of any discrete quantum group on its Poisson boundaries are always amenable.
To any strongly continuous orthogonal representation of $\R$ on a real Hilbert space $\CH_\R$, Hiai constructed $q$-deformed Araki-Woods von Neumann algebras for $-1< q< 1$, which are $W^{\ast}$-algebras arising from non tracial representations of the $q$-commutation relations, the latter yielding an interpolation between the Bosonic and Fermionic statistics. We prove that if the orthogonal representation is not ergodic then these von Neumann algebras are factors whenever $dim(\CH_\R)\geq 2$ and $q\in (-1,1)$. In such case, the centralizer of the $q$-quasi free state has trivial relative commu…
In this note, we derive some consequences of the von Neumann algebra uniqueness theorems developed in a previous paper (see arXiv:1207.6741v1). In particular, 1) we solvein a paper of Futamura, Kataoka, and Kishimoto, by proving that if A is a separable simple nuclear C*-algebra and for π_1 and π_2 are type III representations of A on a separable Hilbert space, then for π_1 and π_2 being algebraically equivalent, it is necessary and sufficient that there is an automorphism αof A such that π_1 composed with α, and π_2 are quasi-equivalent. 2) we give a new (short) proof of the equivalence of in…
Building on our previous work, we study the non-relative homology of quantum group convolution algebras. Our main result establishes the equivalence of amenability of a locally compact quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ and 1-injectivity of $L^{\infty}(\widehat{\mathbb{G}})$ as an operator $L^1(\widehat{\mathbb{G}})$-module. In particular, a locally compact group $G$ is amenable if and only if its group von Neumann algebra $VN(G)$ is 1-injective as an operator module over the Fourier algebra $A(G)$. As an application, we provide a decomposability result for completely bounded $L^1(\widehat{\mathbb{G}}…
We study the von Neumann algebra generated by q--deformed Gaussian elements l_i+l_i^* where operators l_i fulfill the q--deformed canonical commutation relations l_i l_j^*-q l_j^* l_i=delta_{ij} for -1<q<1. We show that if the number of generators is finite, greater than some constant depending on q, it is a II_1 factor which does not have the property Gamma. Our technique can be used for proving factoriality of many examples of von Neumann algebras arising from some generalized Brownian motions, both for type II_1 and type III case.
We introduce the relative Haagerup approximation property for a unital, expected inclusion of arbitrary von Neumann algebras and show that if the smaller algebra is finite then the notion only depends on the inclusion itself, and not on the choice of the conditional expectation. Several variations of the definition are shown to be equivalent in this case, and in particular the approximating maps can be chosen to be unital and preserving the reference state. The concept is then applied to amalgamated free products of von Neumann algebras and used to deduce that the standard Haagerup property fo…

Kernel mean embedding (KME) is a powerful tool to analyze probability measures for data, where the measures are conventionally embedded into a reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS). In this paper, we generalize KME to that of von Neumann-algebra-valued measures into reproducing kernel Hilbert modules (RKHMs), which provides an inner product and distance between von Neumann-algebra-valued measures. Von Neumann-algebra-valued measures can, for example, encode relations between arbitrary pairs of variables in a multivariate distribution or positive operator-valued measures for quantum mechanics…
We investigate the singular subspace of an inclusion of tracial von Neumann algebras. The singular subspace is a canonical N-N subbimodule of L^{2}(M) and it contains the quasinormalizer introduced by Popa, one-sided quasinormalizer introduced by Fang-Gao-Smith, and wq-normalizer introduced in Galatan-Popa (following upon work in Ioana-Peterson-Popa and Popa). We then obtain a weak notion of regularity (called spectral regularity) by demanding that the singular subspace of N in M generates M. By abstracting Voiculescu's original proof of absence of Cartan subalgebras, we show that there can be…
We continue the investigation of the Levy processes on a q-deformed full Fock space started in a previous paper. First, we show that the vacuum vector is cyclic and separating for the algebra generated by such a process. Next, we describe a chaotic representation property in terms of multiple integrals with respect to diagonal measures, in the style of Nualart and Schoutens. We define stochastic integration with respect to these processes, and calculate their combinatorial stochastic measures. Finally, we show that they generate infinite von Neumann algebras.
We initiate the study of a q-deformed geometry for quantum SU(2). In contrast with the usual properties of a spectral triple, we get that only twisted commutators between algebra elements and our Dirac operator are bounded. Furthermore, the resolvent only becomes compact when measured with respect to a trace on a semifinite von Neumann algebra which does not contain the quantum group. We show that the zeta function at the identity has a meromorphic continuation to the whole complex plane and that a large family of local Hochschild cocycles associated with our twisted spectral triple are twiste…
In the past two decades, Sorin Popa's breakthrough deformation/rigidity theory has produced remarkable rigidity results for von Neumann algebras $M$ which can be deformed inside a larger algebra $\widetilde M \supseteq M$ by an action $α: \mathbb{R} \to {\rm Aut}(\widetilde M)$, while simultaneously containing subalgebras $Q$ {\it rigid} with respect to that deformation, that is, such that $α_t \to {\rm id}$ uniformly on the unit ball of $Q$ as $t \to 0$. However, it has remained unclear how to exploit the interplay between distinct rigid subalgebras not in specified relative position. We show…
