Spin Chern-Simons and Spin TQFTs

In a previous paper we constructed classical spin Chern-Simons for any compact Lie group $G$: a gauge theory whose action depends on the spin structure of the 3-manifold. Here we apply geometric quantization to the classical Hamiltonian theory and investigate the formal properties of the partition function in the Lagrangian theory, all in the case $G = SO_3$. We find that the quantum theory for $SO_3$ spin Chern-Simons corresponds to the spin TQFT constructed by Blanchet and Masbaum in the same way that the quantum theory for standard $SU_2$ Chern-Simons corresponds to the TQFT constructed by Reshetikhen and Turaev or the TQFT constructed by Blanchet, Habegger, Masbaum, and Vogel.

Remarks on Chern-Simons Theory

In the late 1980s Witten used the Chern-Simons form of a connection to construct new invariants of 3-manifolds and knots, recovering in particular the Jones invariants. Since then the associated topological quantum field theory (TQFT) has served as a key example in understanding the structure of TQFTs in general. Cheeger-Chern-Simons theory and differential String classes

We introduce certain relative differential characters which we call Cheeger-Chern-Simons characters. These combine the well-known Cheeger-Simons characters with Chern-Simons forms. Infinite Dimensional Chern-Simons Theory

We extend finite dimensional Chern-Simons theory to certain infinite dimensional principal bundles with connections, in particular to the frame bundle $FLM\to LM$ over the loop space of a Riemannian manifold $M$. Chern-Simons forms are defined roughly as in finite dimensions with the invariant polynomials replaced by appropriate Wodzicki residues. This produces odd dimensional $\R/\Z$-valued cohomology classes on $LM$ if $M$ is parallelizable. We compute an example of a metric on the loop space of $S^3\times S^1$ for which the three dimensional Chern-Simons class is nontrivial.

3d spectral networks and classical Chern-Simons theory

We define the notion of spectral network on manifolds of dimension $\le 3$.
