It is a very old and interesting open problem to characterize those collections of embedded topological types of local plane curve singularities which may appear as singularities of a projective plane curve C of degree d. The goal of the present article is to give a complete (topological) classification of those cases when C is rational and it has a unique singularity which is locally irreducible (i.e. C is unicuspidal) with one Puiseux pair.
Based on Tiankai Liu's PhD thesis (MIT, 2014), we give a complete classification of local topological types of singularities with two Newton pairs on rational unicuspidal complex projective plane curves. We show that all but two possible local types on Liu's list are realizable by the work of H. Kashiwara, M. Miyanishi, T. Sugie, T. Fenske, K. Tono and S. Y. Orevkov.
A curve C in the projective plane is called non-negative if the self-intersection number of C after the minimal resolution of singularities of C is non-negative. Given a unicuspidal rational plane curve C with singular point P, we study the unique pencil Lambda_C on the projective plane satisfying C is in Lambda_C and P is its unique base point. We show that the general member of Lambda_C is a rational curve if and only if the curve C is non-negative. We also show that in such a case then Lambda_C has a dicritical of degree 1. Note that all currently known unicuspidal rational curves C in the …
We study deformations of plane curve singularities from an analytic point of view and obtain some new concrete results. We show some rather unexpected properties of Puiseux coefficients treated as functions on a suitably defined parameter space. The methods used in paper are very elementary.
We enumerate complex curves on toric surfaces of any given degree and genus, having a single cusp and nodes as their singularities, and matching appropriately many point constraints. The solution is obtained via tropical enumerative geometry. The same technique applies to enumeration of real plane cuspidal curves: We show that, for any fixed $r\ge1$ and $d\ge2r+3$, there exists a generic real $2r$-dimensional linear family of plane curves of degree $d$ in which the number of real $r$-cuspidal curves is asymptotically comparable with the total number of complex $r$-cuspidal curves in the family…
In 1982, Tamaki Yano proposed a conjecture predicting the set of b-exponents of an irreducible plane curve singularity germ which is generic in its equisingularity class. In \cite{ACLM-Yano2} we proved the conjecture for the case in which the germ has two Puiseux pairs and its algebraic monodromy has distinct eigenvalues. In this article we aim to study the Bernstein polynomial for any function with the hypotheses above. In particular the set of all common roots of those Bernstein polynomials is given. We provide also bounds for some analytic invariants of singularities and illustrate the comp…
In 1982, Yano proposed a conjecture predicting the $b$-exponents of an irreducible plane curve singularity which is generic in its equisingularity class. In this article we prove the conjecture for the case of two Puiseux pairs and monodromy with distinct eigenvalues. The hypothesis on the monodromy implies that the $b$-exponents coincide with the opposite of the roots of the Bernstein polynomial, and we compute the roots of the Bernstein polynomial.
We define a class of plane curves which are close to the free divisors and such that conjecturally it contains the class of rational cuspidal curves. Using a recent result by U. Walther we show that any unicuspidal rational curve with a unique Puiseux pair is either free or belongs to this class.
We study parameter spaces of linear series on projective curves in the presence of unibranch singularities, i.e. {\it cusps}; and to do so, we stratify cusps according to value semigroup. We show that {\it generalized Severi varieties} of maps $\mathbb{P}^1 \rightarrow \mathbb{P}^n$ with images of fixed degree and arithmetic genus are often {\it reducible} whenever $n \geq 3$. We also prove that the Severi variety of degree-$d$ maps with a hyperelliptic cusp of delta-invariant $g \ll d$ is of codimension at least $(n-1)g$ inside the space of degree-$d$ holomorphic maps $\mathbb{P}^1 \rightarro…
It is very fundamental to study irreducible plane curve singularities in algebraic geometry. The contents of the paper consist of three parts, called Part[A], Part[B] and Part[C] with Good Appendix. Our aim is to prove by Part[B] and Part[C] that a complete irreducibility algorithm for the Weierstrass polynomial of two complex variables and the Puiseux expansions in Part[A] can be explicitly and rigorously computable in an elementary way, as follows. For brevity, Weierstrass polynomials may be written by W-polys throughout this paper.
In this paper we characterize the value set $Δ$ of the $R$-modules of the form $R+zR$ for the local ring $R$ associated to a germ $ξ$ of an irreducible plane curve singularity with one Puiseux pair. In the particular case of the module of Kähler differentials attached to $ξ$, we recover some results of Delorme. From our characterization of $Δ$ we introduce a proper subset of semimodules over the value semigroup of the ring $R$. Moreover, we provide a geometric algorithm to construct all possible semimodules in this subset for a given value semigroup.
In 1982, Tamaki Yano proposed a conjecture predicting how is the set of $b$-exponents of an irreducible plane curve singularity germ which is generic in its equisingularity class. In 1986, Pi.~Cassou-Noguès proved the conjecture for the one Puiseux pair case. In a previous work the authors proved the conjecture for two Puiseux pairs germs whose complex algebraic monodromy has distinct eigenvalues. A natural problem induced by Yano's conjecture is, for a generic equisingular deformation of an isolated plane curve singularity germ to study how the set of $b$-exponents depends on the topology of …
We construct a moduli space for Legendrian curves singularities which are contactomorphic-equivalent and equisingular through a contact analogue of the Kodaira-Spencer map for curve singularities. We focus on the specific case of Legendrian curves which are the conormal of a plane curve with one Puiseux pair.
The splice quotients are an interesting class of normal surface singularities with rational homology sphere links, defined by W. Neumann and J. Wahl. If Gamma is a tree of rational curves that satisfies certain combinatorial conditions, then there exist splice quotients with resolution graph Gamma. Suppose the equation z^n=f(x,y) defines a surface X_{f,n} with an isolated singularity at the origin in C^3. For f irreducible, we completely characterize, in terms of n and a variant of the Puiseux pairs of f, those X_{f,n} for which the resolution graph satisfies the combinatorial conditions that …
We consider a resolution of ramified irregular singularities of meromorphic connections on a formal disk via local Fourier transforms. A necessary and sufficient condition for an irreducible connection to have a resolution of the ramified singularity is determined as an analogy of the blowing up of plane curve singularities. We also relate the irregularity of Komatsu and Malgrange of connections to the intersection numbers and the Milnor numbers of plane curve germs. Finally, we shall define an analogue of Puiseux characteristics for connections and find an invariant of the family of connectio…
We prove a new patchworking theorem for singular algebraic curves, which states the following. Given a complex toric threefold $Y$ which fibers over ${\mathbb C}$ with a reduced reducible zero fiber $Y_0$ and other fibers $Y_t$ smooth, and given a reduced curve $C_0\subset Y_0$, the theorem provides a sufficient condition for the existence of a one-parametric family of curves $C_t\subset Y_t$, which induces an equisingular deformation for some singular points of $C_0$ and certain prescribed deformations for the other singularities. As application we give a comment on a recent theorem by G. Mik…
This survey may be seen as an introduction to the use of toric and tropical geometry in the analysis of plane curve singularities, which are germs $(C,o)$ of complex analytic curves contained in a smooth complex analytic surface $S$. The embedded topological type of such a pair $(S, C)$ is usually defined to be that of the oriented link obtained by intersecting $C$ with a sufficiently small oriented Euclidean sphere centered at the point $o$, defined once a system of local coordinates $(x,y)$ was chosen on the germ $(S,o)$. If one works more generally over an arbitrary algebraically closed fie…
