The loop space of the Riemann sphere consisting of all $C^k$ or Sobolev $W^{k,p}$ maps from the circle $S^1$ to the sphere is an infinite dimensional complex manifold. We compute the Picard group of holomorphic line bundles on this loop space as an infinite dimensional complex Lie group with Lie algebra the first Dolbeault group. The group of Mobius transformations $G$ and its loop group $LG$ act on this loop space. We prove that an element of the Picard group is $LG$-fixed if it is $G$-fixed; thus completely answer the question by Millson and Zombro about $G$-equivariant projective embedding of the loop space of the Riemann sphere.
We prove that under certain spectral assumptions on the monodromy group, solutions of Fuchsian systems of linear equations on the Riemann sphere admit explicit global bounds on the number of their isolated zeros.
In this manuscript, by using Belyi maps and dessin d'enfants, we construct some concrete examples of Strebel differentials with four double poles on the Riemann sphere. As an application, we could give some explicit cone spherical metrics on the Riemann sphere.
From conformal field theory on the Riemann sphere, we implement its boundary version in a simply-connected domain using the Schottky double construction. We consider the statistical fields generated by background charge modification of the Gaussian free field with Dirichlet boundary condition under the OPE multiplications. We prove that the correlation functions of such fields with symmetric background charges form a collection of martingale-observables for (forward) chordal/radial SLE with force points and spins. We also present the connection between conformal field theory with Neumann bound…
The loop space $L\mathbb{P}_1$ of the Riemann sphere consisting of all $C^k$ or Sobolev $W^{k,p}$ maps from the circle $S^1$ to $\mathbb{P}_1$ is an infinite dimensional complex manifold. The loop group $LPGL(2,\mathbb{C})$ acts on $L\mathbb{P}_1$ . We prove that the group of $LPGL(2,\mathbb{C})$ invariant holomorphic line bundles on $L\mathbb{P}_1$ is isomorphic to an infinite dimensional Lie group. Further, we prove that the space of holomorphic sections of these bundles is finite dimensional, and compute the dimension for a generic bundle.
Fix a point $t_0$ in the circle $S^1$. The space $J^k(t_0, \mathbb{P}^1)$ of $k$-jets at $t_0$ of $C^{\infty}$ maps from $S^1$ to the Riemann sphere $\mathbb{P}^1$ is a $k+1$ dimensional complex algebraic manifold. We identify a class of holomorphic sections of line bundles on $J^k(t_0, \mathbb{P}^1)$.
We show that there is a spectral gap for the transfer operator associated to a rational map f on the Riemann sphere. Using this and the method of pertubed operators we establish the (Local) Central Limit Theorem for the measure of maximal entropy of f, with an estimate on the speed of convergence.
In this paper we relate some classical normal forms for complex elliptic curves in terms of 4-point sets in the Riemann sphere. Our main result is an alternative proof that every elliptic curve is isomorphic as a Riemann surface to one in the Hesse normal form. In this setting, we give an alternative proof of the equivalence between the Edwards and the Jacobi normal forms. Also, we give a geometric construction of the cross ratios for 4-point sets in general position.
A celebrated and deep theorem in the theory of Riemann surfaces states the existence and uniqueness of the Jenkins-Strebel differentials on a Riemann surface under some conditions, but the proof is non-constructive and examples are difficult to find. This paper deals with an example of a simple case, namely Jenkins-Strebel differentials on the Riemann sphere with four fixed simple poles. We will give explicit expressions of these Jenkins-Strebel differentials by means of the Weierstrass $\wp$ function and expose a simple algorithm determining the correspondence between these differentials and …
We prove that for every analytic curve in the complex plane, Euclidean and spherical arc-lengths are global conformal parameters. We also prove that for any analytic curve in the hyperbolic plane, hyperbolic arc-length is also a global parameter. We generalize some of these results to the case of analytic curves in Euclidean n-space and complex n-space and we discuss the situation of curves in the Riemann sphere.
The conformal loop ensemble (CLE) is the canonical conformally invariant probability measure on non-crossing loops in a simply connected domain in $\mathbb C$ and is indexed by a parameter $κ\in (8/3,8)$. We consider CLE$_κ$ on the whole-plane in the regime in which the loops are self-intersecting ($κ\in (4,8)$) and show that it is invariant under the inversion map $z \mapsto 1/z$. This shows that whole-plane CLE$_κ$ for $κ\in (4,8)$ defines a conformally invariant measure on loops on the Riemann sphere. The analogous statement in the regime in which the loops are simple ($κ\in (8/3,4]$) was p…
We construct explicit geometric models for moduli spaces of semi-stable strongly parabolic Higgs bundles over the Riemann sphere, in the case of rank two, four marked points, arbitrary degree, and arbitrary weights. The mechanism of construction relies on elementary geometric and combinatorial techniques, based on a detailed study of orbit stability of (in general non-reductive) bundle automorphism groups on certain carefully crafted spaces. The aforementioned techniques are not exclusive to the case we examine, and this work elucidates a general approach to construct arbitrary moduli spaces o…
We introduce the Nonlinear Cauchy-Riemann equations as Bäcklund transformations for several nonlinear and linear partial differential equations. From these equations we treat in details the Laplace and the Liouville equations by deriving general solution for the nonlinear Liouville equation. By Möbius transformation we relate solutions for the Poincare model of hyperbolic geometry, the Klein model in half-plane and the pseudo-sphere. Conformal form of the constant curvature metrics in these geometries, stereographic projections and special solutions are discussed. Then we introduce the hyperbo…
Given a closed Riemann surface $Σ$ equipped with a volume form $ω$, we construct a natural probability measure on the space $\mathcal{M}_d(Σ)$ of degree $d$ branched coverings from $Σ$ to the Riemann sphere $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^1.$ We prove a large deviations principle for the number of critical points in a given open set $U\subset Σ$: given any sequence $ε_d$ of positive numbers, the probability that the number of critical points of a branched covering deviates from $2d\cdot\textrm{Vol}(U)$ more than $ε_d$ is smaller than $\exp(-C_Uε^3_d d)$, for some positive constant $C_U$. In particular, …

We study algebraic isomonodromic deformations of flat logarithmic connections on the Riemann sphere with $n\geq 4$ poles, for arbitrary rank. We introduce a natural property of algebraizability for the germ of universal deformation of such a connection. We relate this property to a peculiarity of the corresponding monodromy representation: to yield a finite braid group orbit on the appropriate character variety. Under reasonable assumptions on the deformed connection, we may actually establish an equivalence between both properties. We apply this result in the rank two case to relate finite br…
This is a course of lectures given for students of the Regional Mathematical Center of the Novosibirsk State University from October 20 to November 3, 2017. The course is devoted to some geometric problems of ramified coverings of the Riemann sphere. A special attention is payed to compact surfaces of genus one (complex tori). In the first section we give a short introduction to the theory of elliptic functions. Section 2 is devoted to one-parametric families of holomorphic and meromorphic functions. We recall the role of such families on Loewner's equation in solving some problems of the theo…
Topologically the adelic Riemann sphere is the suspension of the adelic solenoid and because of this relation, here we study the adelic solenoid by studying the adelic Riemann sphere topology. The main result is the Birkhoff-Grothendieck Theorem: A holomorphic vector bundle splits as a sum of holomorphic line bundles whose Chern character is now a rational number. As a consequence, the Picard group is isomorphic to the additive group of rational numbers and the $K$--ring has new elements that factor the tautological class.
We compute the spectra of the Tanaka type Laplacians on the Rumin complex, a quotient of the tangential Cauchy-Riemann complex on the unit sphere in $C^n$. We prove that Szegö map is a unitary operator from a subspace of $(p, q-1)$-forms on the sphere defined by the Tanaka operators and the normal vector field onto the space of $L^2$-harmonic $(p, q)$-forms on the unit ball. Our results generalize earlier result of Folland.
This is a continuation of a project on large deviations for the empirical measures of zeros of random holomorphic sections of random line bundles over a Riemann surface X. In a previous article with O. Zeitouni (arXiv:0904.4271), we proved an LDP for random polynomials in the genus zero case. In higher genus, there is a Picard variety of line bundles and so the line bundle L is a random variable as well as the section s. The space of pairs (L, s) is known as the "vortex moduli space". The zeros of (L, s) fill out the configuration space $X^{(N)}$ of $N$ points of $X$. The LDP shows that the co…
We give a complete description of finite braid group orbits in Aff(C)-character varieties of the punctured Riemann sphere. This is performed thanks to a coalescence procedure and to the theory of finite complex reflection groups. We then derive consequences in the theory of differential equations. These concern algebraicity of isomonodromic deformations for reducible rank two logarithmic connections on the sphere, the Riemann-Hilbert problem and F_D-type Lauricella hypergeometric functions.
