A Simple Proof of the Fundamental Theorem about Arveson Systems

With every Eo-semigroup (acting on the algebra of of bounded operators on a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space) there is an associated Arveson system. One of the most important results about Arveson systems is that every Arveson system is the one associated with an Eo-semigroup. In these notes we give a new proof of this result that is considerably simpler than the existing ones and allows for a generalization to product systems of Hilbert module (to be published elsewhere).

Existence of $E_0$--Semigroups for Arveson Systems: Making Two Proofs into One

Since quite a time there were available only two rather difficult and involved proofs, the original one by Arveson and a more recent one by Liebscher, of the fact that for every Arveson system there exists an E_0-semigroup. We put together two recent short proofs, one by Skeide and one by Arveson, to obtain a still simpler one, which unfies the advantages of each proof and discards with their disadvantages.

Arveson dichotomy and essential fractality

The notions of fractal and essentially fractal algebras of approximation sequences and of the Arveson dichotomy have proved extremely useful for several spectral approximation problems. The Schur-Horn theorem in von Neumann algebras

On the universal property of Pimsner-Toeplitz C*-algebras and their continuous analogues

We consider C*-algebras generated by a single Hilbert bimodule (Pimsner-Toeplitz algebras) and by a product systems of Hilbert bimodules. We give a new proof of a theorem of Pimsner, which states that any representation of the generating bimodule gives rise to a representation of the Pimsner-Toeplitz algebra. Our proof does not make use of the conditional expectation onto the subalgebra invariant under the dual action of the circle group. We then prove the analogous statement for the case of product systems, generalizing a theorem of Arveson from the case of product systems of Hilbert spaces.

Von Neumann algebraic H^p theory

Around 1967, Arveson invented a striking noncommutative generalization of classical $H^\infty$, known as {\em subdiagonal algebras}, which include a wide array of examples of interest to operator theorists. C*-algebras of Hilbert module product systems

We consider a class of C*-algebras associated to one parameter continuous tensor product systems of Hilbert modules, which can be viewed as continuous counterparts of Pimsner's Toeplitz algebras. By exhibiting a homotopy of quasihomomorphisms, we prove that those algebras are $K$-contractible. Spatial Markov Semigroups Admit Hudson-Parthasarathy Dilations

We present, for the first time, the result (from 2008) that (normal, strongly continuous) Markov semigroups on $\mathscr{B}(G)$ ($G$ a separable Hilbert space) admit a Hudson-Parthasarathy dilation (that is, a dilation to a cocycle perturbation of a noise) if and only if the Markov semigroup is spatial (that is, if it dominates an elementary CP-semigroup). We describe three methods to determine the structure of (sufficiently continuous) representations of the algebra B^a(E) of all adjointable operators on a Hilbert B-module E by operators on a Hilbert C-module. The Dirichlet Property for Tensor Algebras

We prove that the tensor algebra of a C*-correspondence $X$ is Dirichlet if and only if $X$ is a Hilbert bimodule. As a consequence, we point out and fix an error appearing in the proof of a famous result of Duncan. A Beurling-Blecher-Labuschagne Theorem for noncommutative Hardy spaces associated with semifinite von Neumann algebras

In 2008, Blecher and Labuschagne extended Beurling's classical theorem to $H^\infty$-invariant subspaces of $L^p(\mathcal{M},τ)$ for a finite von Neumann algebra $\mathcal{M}$ with a finite, faithful, normal tracial state $τ$ when $1\le p\le \infty$. Følner sequences in operator theory and operator algebras

The present article is a review of recent developments concerning the notion of Følner sequences both in operator theory and operator algebras. We also give a new direct proof that any essentially normal operator has an increasing Følner sequence $\{P_n\}$ of non-zero finite rank projections that strongly converges to 1.
