Duality of Model Sets Generated by Substitutions

The nature of this paper is twofold: On one hand, we will give a short introduction and overview of the theory of model sets in connection with nonperiodic substitution tilings and generalized Rauzy fractals. On the other hand, we will construct certain Rauzy fractals and a certain substitution tiling with interesting properties, and we will use a new approach to prove rigorously that the latter one arises from a model set. The proof will use a duality principle which will be described in detail for this example. This duality is mentioned as early as 1997 by Gelbrich in the context of iterated function systems, but it seems to appear nowhere else in connection with model sets.

Lattice Substitution Systems and Model Sets

The paper studies ways in which the sets of a partition of a lattice in $\RR^n$ become regular model sets. The main theorem gives equivalent conditions which assure that a matrix substitution system on a lattice in $\RR^n$ gives rise to regular model sets (based on $p$-adic-like internal spaces), and hence to pure point diffractive sets. The methods developed here are used to show that the $n-$dimensional chair tiling and the sphinx tiling are pure point diffractive.

Substitution Delone Sets with Pure Point Spectrum are Inter Model Sets

The paper establishes an equivalence between pure point diffraction and certain types of model sets, called inter model sets, in the context of substitution point sets and substitution tilings. The key ingredients are a new type of coincidence condition in substitution point sets, which we call algebraic coincidence, and the use of a recent characterization of model sets through dynamical systems associated with the point sets or tilings.

Some Properties of Lattice Substitution Systems

If a partition of a lattice in R^d is selfsimilar, it is called lattice substitution system (LSS). Such sets represent nonperiodic, but highly ordered structures. An important property of such structures is, whether they are model sets or not (equivalently, whether they are pure point diffractive or not). In this paper two conditions are given, which can be used to show that a given lattice substitution system does not consist of model sets.

Pisot substitution sequences, one dimensional cut-and-project sets and bounded remainder sets with fractal boundary

This paper uses a connection between bounded remainder sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$ and cut-and-project sets in $\mathbb{R}$ together with the fact that each one-dimensional Pisot substitution sequence is bounded distance equivalent to some lattice in order to construct several bounded remainder sets with fractal boundary. Moreover it is shown that there are cut-and-project sets being not bounded distance equivalent to each other even if they are locally indistinguishable, more precisely: even if they are contained in the same hull.

Bounded Displacement Non-Equivalence In Substitution Tilings

In the study of aperiodic order and mathematical models of quasicrystals, questions regarding equivalence relations on Delone sets naturally arise. Multi-convex sets in real projective spaces and their duality

We study intersections of projective convex sets in the sense of Steinitz. In a projective space, an intersection of a nonempty family of convex sets splits into multiple connected components each of which is a convex set. Hence, such an intersection is called a multi-convex set. This paper addresses the problem of describing aperiodic discrete structures that have a self-similar or self-affine structure. Substitution Delone set families are families of Delone sets (X_1, ..., X_n) in R^d that satisfy an inflation functional equation under the action of an expanding integer matrix in R^d. Duality of moduli and quasiconformal mappings in metric spaces

We prove a duality relation for the moduli of the family of curves connecting two sets and the family of surfaces separating the sets, in the setting of a complete metric space equipped with a doubling measure and supporting a Poincaré inequality. Then we apply this to show that quasiconformal mappings can be characterized by the fact that they quasi-preserve the modulus of certain families of surfaces.

Pair Correlation and Gap Distributions for Substitution Tilings and Generalized Ulam Sets in the Plane

We study empirical statistical and gap distributions of several important tilings of the plane. Linearly repetitive Delone sets are rectifiable

In this paper we prove that, for any integer $d>0$, every linearly repetitive Delone set in the Euclidean $d$-space $\RR^d$ is equivalent, up to a bi-Lipschitz homeomorphism, to the integer lattice $\ZZ^d$. Consequences of Pure Point Diffraction Spectra for Multiset Substitution Systems

Continuously many bounded displacement non-equivalences in substitution tiling spaces

We consider substitution tilings in R^d that give rise to point sets that are not bounded displacement (BD) equivalent to a lattice and study the cardinality of BD(X), the set of distinct BD class representatives in the corresponding tiling space X. We prove a sufficient condition under which the tiling space contains continuously many distinct BD classes and present such an example in the plane.
