For q generic or a primitive l-th root of unity, q-Witt algebras are described by means of q-divided power algebras. The structure of the universal q-central extension of the q-Witt algebra, the q-Virasoro algebra, is also determined. q-Lie algebras are investigated and the q-PBW theorem for the universal enveloping algebras of q-Lie algebras is proved. A realization of a class of representations of the q-Witt algebras is given. Based on it, the q-holomorph structure for the q-Witt algebras is constructed, which interprets the realization in the context of representation theory.
The aim of this paper is to study some brackets defined on $(τ,σ)$-derivations satisfying quasi-Lie identities. Moreover, we provide examples of $(p,q)$-deformations of Witt and Virasoro algebras as well as $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ algebra. These constructions generalize the results obtained by Hartwig, Larsson and Silvestrov on $σ$-derivations, arising in connection with discretizations and deformations of algebras of vector fields.
Structures of dual Lie bialgebras on the one sided Witt algebra, the Witt algebra and the Virasoro algebra are investigated. As a result, we obtain some infinite dimensional Lie algebras.
The purpose of this paper is to study Virasoro extensions of the q-deformed Witt Hom-Lie superalgebra. Moreover, we provide the cohomology and deformations of the Ramond Hom-superalgebra and special Ramond Hom-superalgebra.
The homogeneous Rota-Baxter operators on the Witt and Virasoro algebras are classified. As applications, the induced solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation and the induced pre-Lie and PostLie algebra structures are obtained.
We find that a compatible graded left-symmetric algebra structure on the Witt algebra induces an indecomposable module of the Witt algebra with 1-dimensional weight spaces by its left multiplication operators. From the classification of such modules of the Witt algebra, the compatible graded left-symmetric algebra structures on the Witt algebra are classified. All of them are simple and they include the examples given by Chapoton and Kupershmidt. Furthermore, we classify the central extensions of these graded left-symmetric algebras which give the compatible graded left-symmetric algebra struc…
By elementary and direct calculations the vanishing of the (algebraic) second Lie algebra cohomology of the Witt and the Virasoro algebra with values in the adjoint module is shown. This yields infinitesimal and formal rigidity or these algebras. The first (and up to now only) proof of this important result was given 1989 by Fialowski in an unpublished note. It is based on cumbersome calculations. Compared to the original proof the presented one is quite elegant and considerably simpler.
The concept of $λ$-differential operators is a natural generalization of differential operators and difference operators. In this paper, we determine the $λ$-differential Lie algebraic structure on the Witt algebra and the Virasoro algebra for invertible $λ$. Then we consider several families of modules over the Virasoro algebra with explicit module actions and determine the $λ$-differential module structures on them.
Generalized Virasoro algebras (defined as the universal central extension of some generalized Witt algebras) and super-Virasoro algebras and modules of the intermediate series are studied and discussed.
A proof of the vanishing of the third cohomology group of the Witt algebra with values in the adjoint module is given. Moreover, we provide a sketch of the proof of the one-dimensionality of the third cohomology group of the Virasoro algebra with values in the adjoint module. The proofs given in the present article are completely algebraic and independent of any underlying topology. They are a generalization of the ones provided by Schlichenmaier, who proved the vanishing of the second cohomology group of the Witt and the Virasoro algebra by using purely algebraic methods. In the case of the t…
We classify Jet modules for the Lie (super)algebras $\mathfrak{L}=W\ltimes(\mathfrak{g}\otimes\mathbb{C}[t,t^{-1}])$, where $W$ is the Witt algebra and $\mathfrak{g}$ is a Lie superalgebra with an even diagonlizable derivation. Then we give a concept method to classify all simple cuspidal modules for $\mathfrak{L}$ and the map superalgebras, which are of the form $\mathfrak{L}\otimes R$, where $R$ is a Noetherian unital supercommutative associative superalgebra.
We consider exceptional vertex operator algebras for which particular Casimir vectors constructed from the primary vectors of lowest conformal weight are Virasoro descendants of the vacuum. We discuss constraints on these theories that follow from an analysis of appropriate genus zero and genus one two point correlation functions. We find explicit differential equations for the partition function in the cases where the lowest weight primary vectors form a Lie algebra or a Griess algebra. Examples include the Wess-Zumino-Witten model for Deligne's exceptional Lie algebras and the Moonshine Modu…
The main aim of this article is to prove the one-dimensionality of the third algebraic cohomology of the Virasoro algebra with values in the adjoint module. We announced this result in a previous publication with only a sketch of the proof. The detailed proof is provided in the present article. We also show that the third algebraic cohomology of the Witt and the Virasoro algebra with values in the trivial module is one-dimensional. We consider purely algebraic cohomology, i.e. our results are independent of any topology chosen. The vanishing of the third algebraic cohomology of the Witt algebr…
In this article, we show that a framed vertex operator algebra V satisfying the conditions: (1) V is holomorphic (i.e., V is the only irreducible V-module); (2) V is of rank 24; and (3) V_1=0; is isomorphic to the moonshine vertex operator algebra constructed by Frenkel-Lepowsky-Meurman.
In two earlier articles we constructed algebraic-geometric families of genus one (i.e. elliptic) Lie algebras of Krichever-Novikov type. The considered algebras are vector fields, current and affine Lie algebras. These families deform the Witt algebra, the Virasoro algebra, the classical current, and the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras respectively. The constructed families are not equivalent (not even locally) to the trivial families, despite the fact that the classical algebras are formally rigid. This effect is due to the fact that the algebras are infinite dimensional. In this article the re…
In a paper by Michaelis a class of infinite-dimensional Lie bialgebras containing the Virasoro algebra was presented. This type of Lie bialgebras was classified by Ng and Taft. In this paper, all Lie bialgebra structures on the Lie algebras of generalized Witt type are classified. It is proved that, for any Lie algebra $W$ of generalized Witt type, all Lie bialgebras on $W$ are coboundary triangular Lie bialgebras. As a by-product, it is also proved that the first cohomology group $H^1(W,W \otimes W)$ is trivial.
This paper focuses on the connection of holomorphic two-dimensional factorization algebras and vertex algebras which has been made precise in the forthcoming book of Costello-Gwilliam. We provide a construction of the Virasoro vertex algebra starting from a local Lie algebra on the complex plane. Moreover, we discuss an extension of this factorization algebra to a factorization algebra on the category of Riemann surfaces. The factorization homology of this factorization algebra is computed as are the correlation functions. We provide an example of how the Virasoro factorization algebra impleme…
Differential calculi of Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt type on universal enveloping algebras of Lie algebras g are defined. This definition turns out to be independent of the basis chosen in g. The role of automorphisms of g is explained. It is proved that no differential calculus of Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt type exists on semi-simple Lie algebras. Examples are given, namely gl_n, Abelian Lie algebras, the Heisenberg algebra, the Witt and the Virasoro algebra. Completely treated are the 2-dimensional solvable Lie algebra, and the 3-dimensional Heisenberg algebra.
Let $\mf g$ be the Witt algebra or the positive Witt algebra. It is well known that the enveloping algebra $U(\mf g )$ has intermediate growth and thus infinite Gelfand-Kirillov (GK-) dimension. We prove that the GK-dimension of $U(\mf g)$ is {\em just infinite} in the sense that any proper quotient of $U(\mf g)$ has polynomial growth. This proves a conjecture of Petukhov and the second named author for the positive Witt algebra. We also establish the corresponding results for quotients of the symmetric algebra $S(\mf g)$ by proper Poisson ideals. In fact, we prove more generally that any cent…
We show how the recently again discussed $N$-point Witt, Virasoro, and affine Lie algebras are genus zero examples of the multi-point versions of Krichever--Novikov type algebras as introduced and studied by Schlichenmaier. Using this more general point of view, useful structural insights and an easier access to calculations can be obtained. The concept of almost-grading will yield information about triangular decompositions which are of importance in the theory of representations. As examples the algebra of functions, vector fields, differential operators, current algebras, affine Lie algebra…
In this article we develop an approach to deformations of the Witt and Virasoro algebras based on $σ$-derivations. We show that $σ$-twisted Jacobi type identity holds for generators of such deformations. For the $σ$-twisted generalization of Lie algebras modeled by this construction, we develop a theory of central extensions. We show that our approach can be used to construct new deformations of Lie algebras and their central extensions, which in particular include naturally the $q$-deformations of the Witt and Virasoro algebras associated to $q$-difference operators, providing also correspond…
By considering non-trivial global deformations of the Witt (and the Virasoro) algebra given by geometric constructions it is shown that, despite their infinitesimal and formal rigidity, they are globally not rigid. This shows the need of a clear indication of the type of deformations considered. The families appearing are constructed as families of algebras of Krichever-Novikov type. They show up in a natural way in the global operator approach to the quantization of two-dimensional conformal field theory. In addition, a proof of the infinitesimal and formal rigidity of the Witt algebra is pre…
