The concept of `topological right transversal' is introduced to study right transversals in topological groups. Given any right quasigroup $S$ with a Tychonoff topology $T$, it is proved that there exists a Hausdorff topological group in which $S$ can be embedded algebraically and topologically as a right transversal of a subgroup (not necessarily closed). It is also proved that if a topological right transversal $(S, T_{S}, T^{S}, \circ)$ is such that $T_{S} = T^{S}$ is a locally compact Hausdorff topology on $S$, then $S$ can be embedded as a right transversal of a closed subgroup in a Hausdorff topological group which is universal in some sense.
In this thesis we investigate invariant transversals in finite groups by studying the connection between right conjugacy closed loops and finite groups. The interplay between loop theory and group theory has prompted discoveries in both areas and led to new questions on both sides.
In this paper we introduce the definition of $(k,l)$-universal transversal property, which is a refinement of the definition of $k$-universal transversal property, which in turn is a refinement of the classic definition of $k$-homogeneity for permutation groups. In particular, a group possesses the $(2,n)$-universal transversal property if and only if it is primitive; it possesses the $(2,2)$-universal transversal property if and only if it is $2$-homogeneous. Up to a few undecided cases, we give a classification of groups satisfying the $(k,l)$-universal transversal property, for $k\ge 3$. Th…
In this note, a necessary and sufficient condition for the normalizer of a core-free subgroup $H$ of a finite group $G$ to be normal in $G$ is obtained. Also, a known result of finite groups is obtained through transversal.
On the transversals of a subgroup of a group, using the binary operation of the group, structural mappings are defined. Based on these mappings, the notion of the hypergroup over the group is introduced, which generalizes the notion of the quotient-group of the given group with respect to the normal subgroup. The category of the hypergroups over the group contains as subcategories the category of groups, the category of linear spaces, the category of fields.
In this article we determine the number of isotopic classes of transversals of a subgroup of order 2 in $ D_{2n}$ ($n$ is a positive odd integer greater than 1), where isotopism classes are formed with respect to the induced right loop structures. We also determine the cyclic index of the Affine group Aff$(1,p^{2})$, where $p$ is an odd prime.
Let $G$ be a finite group and $H$ a core-free subgroup of $G$. We will show that if there exists a solvable, generating transversal of $H$ in $G$, then $G$ is a solvable group. Further, if $S$ is a generating transversal of $H$ in $G$ and $S$ has order 2 invariant sub right loop $T$ such that the quotient $S/T$ is a group. Then $H$ is an elementary abelian 2-group.
We explore transversals of finite index subgroups of finitely generated groups. We show that when $H$ is a subgroup of a rank $n$ group $G$ and $H$ has index at least $n$ in $G$ then we can construct a left transversal for $H$ which contains a generating set of size $n$ for $G$, and that the construction is algorithmic when $G$ is finitely presented. We also show that, in the case where $G$ has rank $n \leq3$, there is a simultaneous left-right transversal for $H$ which contains a generating set of size $n$ for $G$. We finish by showing that if $H$ is a subgroup of a rank $n$ group $G$ with in…
For any group $G$ with subgroup $H$ and a set of representatives $T$ from the set of cosets $G/H$, we develop a rewriting system from $G$ that bequeaths a product into the set decomposition $T\times H$ of $G$, converting it into a group. In return the rewriting system also describes any product between elements in $G$ in terms of elements from $T$ and $H$, while we gain a new universal group-isomorphism between $G$ and $T\times H$. From this framework, we develop the theory of Diffracted Groups.
In [3] is was shown that for any group $G$ whose rank (i.e., minimal number of generators) is at most 3, and any finite index subgroup $H\leq G$ with index $[G:H]\geq rank(G)$, one can always find a left-right transversal of $H$ which generates $G$. In this paper we extend this result to groups of rank at most 4. We also extend this to groups $G$ of arbitrary (finite) rank $r$ provided all the non-trivial divisors of $[G:core_G(H)]$ are at least $2r-1$. Finally, we extend this to groups $G$ of arbitrary (finite) rank provided $H$ is malnormal in $G$.
Let $G$ be a finite group and $H$ be a subgroup of $G$. In this paper, we prove that if $G$ is a finite nilpotent group and $H$ a subgroup of $G$, then $H$ is normal in $G$ if and only if all normalized right transversals of $H$ in $G$ are isotopic, where the isotopism classes are formed with respect to induced right loop structures. We have also determined the number isotopy classes of transversals of a subgroup of order 2 in $D_{2p}$, the dihedral group of order $2p$, where $p$ is an odd prime.
Given a finite group $G$ and a subset $X$ of $G$, the commuting graph of $G$ on $X$, denoted by ${\cal C}(G,X)$, is the graph that has $X$ as its vertex set with $x,y\in X$ joined by an edge whenever $x\neq y$ and $xy=yx$. Let $T$ be a transversal of the center $Z(G)$ of $G$. When $G$ is a finite non-abelian group and $X=T\setminus Z(G)$, we denote the graph ${\cal C}(G,X)$ by ${\cal T}(G)$. In this paper, we show that ${\cal T}(G)$ is a connected strongly regular graph if and only if $G$ is isoclinic to an extraspecial $2$-group of order at least $32$. We also characterize the finite non-abel…
Two non-discrete Hausdorff group topologies $τ, δ$ on a group $G$ are called {\it transversal} if the least upper bound $τ\vee δ$ of $τ$ and $δ$ is the discrete topology. In this paper, we discuss the existence of transversal group topologies on locally pseudocompact, locally precompact or locally compact groups. We prove that each locally pseudocompact, connected topological group satisfies CSP, which gives an affirmative answer to a problem posed by Dikranjan, Tkachenko and Yaschenko in 2006. For a compact normal subgroup $K$ of a locally compact totally disconnected group $G$, if $G$ admits…
In this paper we prove that there does not exist a subgroup $H$ of a finite group $G$ such that the number of isomorphism classes of normalized right transversals of $H$ in $G$ is four.
In this paper, we prove that there does not exist a subgroup H of a finite group G such that the number of isomorphism classes of right transversals of H in G is two.
In a latin square of order $n$, a near transversal is a collection of $n-1$ cells which intersects each row, column, and symbol class at most once. A longstanding conjecture of Brualdi, Ryser, and Stein asserts that every latin square possesses a near transversal. We show that this conjecture is true for every latin square that is main class equivalent to the Cayley table of a finite group.
We discuss the class of paratopological groups which admits a transversal, $T_{1}$-independent and $T_{1}$-complementary paratopological group topology. We show that the Sorgenfrey line does not admit a $T_{1}$-complementary Hausdorff paratopological group topology, which gives a negative answer to \cite[Problem 10]{AT2017}. We give a very useful criterion for transversality in term of submaximal paratopological group topology, and prove that if a non-discrete paratopological group topology $G$ contains a central subgroup which admits a transversal paratopological group topology, then so does …
In this paper the notion of nilpotent right transversal and solvable right transversal has been defined. Further, it is proved that if a core-free subgroup has a generating solvable transversal or a generating nilpotent transversal, then the whole group is solvable.
Schreier formula for the rank of a subgroup of finite index of a finitely generated free group $F$ is generalized to an arbitrary (even infinitely generated) subgroup $H$ through the Schreier transversals of $H$ in $F$. The rank formula may also be expressed in terms of the cogrowth of $H$. We introduce the rank-growth function $rk_H(i)$ of a subgroup $H$ of a finitely generated free group $F$. $rk_H(i)$ is defined to be the rank of the subgroup of $H$ generated by elements of length less than or equal to $i$ (with respect to the generators of $F$), and it equals the rank of the fundamental gr…
In this paper the number of isomorphism classes of the right transversals of the symmetric group $Σ_{n-1}$ in the symmetric group $Σ_n$ is calculated. This result together with the techniques employed along the paper may be used to go forward in the study and classification of the subgroups with a certain number of isomorphism classes of transversals in the group.
Let $G$ be a permutation group of degree $n$, and $k$ a positive integer with $k\le n$. We say that $G$ has the $k$-existential property, or $k$-et for short, if there exists a $k$-subset $A$ of the domain $Ω$ such that, for any $k$-partition $\mathcal{P}$ of $Ω$, there exists $g\in G$ mapping $A$ to a transversal (a section) for $\mathcal{P}$. This property is a substantial weakening of the $k$-universal transversal property, or $k$-ut, investigated by the first and third author, which required this condition to hold for all $k$-subsets $A$ of the domain. Our first task in this paper is to in…
Let $X$ be a finite set such that $|X|=n$ and let $i\leq j \leq n$. A group $G\leq \sym$ is said to be $(i,j)$-homogeneous if for every $I,J\subseteq X$, such that $|I|=i$ and $|J|=j$, there exists $g\in G$ such that $Ig\subseteq J$. (Clearly $(i,i)$-homogeneity is $i$-homogeneity in the usual sense.) A group $G\leq \sym$ is said to have the $k$-universal transversal property if given any set $I\subseteq X$ (with $|I|=k$) and any partition $P$ of $X$ into $k$ blocks, there exists $g\in G$ such that $Ig$ is a section for $P$. (That is, the orbit of each $k$-subset of $X$ contains a section for …
We introduce new techniques for studying boundary dynamics of CAT(0) groups. For a group $G$ acting geometrically on a CAT(0) space $X$ we show there is a flat $F\subset X$ of maximal dimension whose boundary sphere intersects every minimal $G$-invariant subset of $\partial_\infty X$. As a result we derive a necessary and sufficient dynamical condition for $G$ to be virtually-Abelian, as well as a new approach to Ballmann's rank rigidity conjecture.
We define algebraic group analogues of the Slodowy transversal slices to adjoint orbits in a complex semisimple Lie algebra g. The new slices are transversal to the conjugacy classes in an algebraic group G with Lie algebra g. These slices are associated to (the conjugacy classes of) elements s of the Weyl group W of g. For such slices we prove an analogue of the Kostant cross-section theorem for the action of a unipotent group.
We construct loops which are semidirect products of groups of affinities. As their elements in many cases one may take transversal subspaces of an affine space. In particular we obtain in this manner smooth loops having Lie groups of affine real transformations as the groups generated by left translations, whereas the groups generated by right translations are smooth groups of infinite dimension. We also determine the Akivis algebras of these loops.
The main result of this paper is that the categories of (right) hypergroups over the group and of triples, consisting of a group, its subgroup and a (right) transversal to this subgroup, are equivalent.
We recall the notion of Hopf quasigroups introduced previously. We construct a bicrossproduct Hopf quasigroup $kM\bicross k(G)$ from every group $X$ with a finite subgroup $G\subset X$ and IP quasigroup transversal $M\subset X$ subject to certain conditions. We identify the octonions quasigroup $G_O$ as transversal in an order 128 group $X$ with subgroup $Z_2^3$ and hence obtain a Hopf quasigroup $kG_O\lcocross k(Z_2^3)$ as a particular case of our construction.
