Hyperelementary assembly for K-theory of virtually abelian groups

Controlled $K$-theory is used to show that algebraic $K$-theory of virtually abelian groups is described by an assembly map defined using possibly-infinite hyperelementary subgroups. The Farrell-Jones summand (coming from infinite subgroups) is parameterized by the rational projective space of the group, and a reduced version is torsion. Includes general material on assembly and universal spaces.

Assembly maps for topological cyclic homology of group algebras

We use assembly maps to study $\mathbf{TC}(\mathbb{A}[G];p)$, the topological cyclic homology at a prime $p$ of the group algebra of a discrete group $G$ with coefficients in a connective ring spectrum $\mathbb{A}$. For any finite group, we prove that the assembly map for the family of cyclic subgroups is an isomorphism on homotopy groups. Splitting the relative assembly map, Nil-terms and involutions

We show that the relative Farrell-Jones assembly map from the family of finite subgroups to the family of virtually cyclic subgroups for algebraic K-theory is split injective in the setting where the coefficients are additive categories with group action. This generalizes a result of Bartels for rings as coefficients. We give an explicit description of the relative term. The Behavior of Nil-Groups under Localization and the Relative Assembly Map

We study the behavior of the Nil-subgroups of K-groups under localization. As a consequence we obtain that the relative assembly map from the family of finite subgroups to the family of virtually cyclic subgroups is rationally an isomorphism. Combined with the equivariant Chern character we obtain a complete computation of the rationalized source of the K-theoretic assembly map in terms of group homology and the K-groups of finite cyclic subgroups.

On the K-theory of subgroups of virtually connected Lie groups

We prove that for every finitely generated subgroup of a virtually connected Lie group which admits a finite dimensional model for the classifying space for proper actions the assembly map in algebraic K-theory is split injective. We also prove a similar statement for algebraic L-theory, which in particular implies the integral Novikov conjecture for such groups.

Continuous Control and the Algebraic L-theory Assembly Map

In this work, the assembly map in L-theory for the family of finite subgroups is proven to be a split injection for a class of groups. Groups in this class, including virtually polycyclic groups, have universal spaces that satisfy certain geometric conditions. The proof follows the method developed by Carlsson-Pedersen to split the assembly map in the case of torsion free groups. Here, the continuously controlled techniques and results are extended to handle groups with torsion.

The algebraic and topological K-theory of the Hilbert Modular Group

In this paper we provide descriptions of the Whitehead groups with coefficients in a ring of the Hilbert modular group and its reduced version, as well as for the topological K-theory of $C^*$-algebras, after tensoring with $\mathbb{Q}$, by computing the source of the assembly maps in the Farrell-Jones and the Baum-Connes conjecture respectively. We also construct a model for the classifying space of the Hilbert modular group for the family of virtually cyclic subgroups.

On the K-theory of groups with finite asymptotic dimension

It is proved that the assembly maps in algebraic K- and L-theory with respect to the family of finite subgroups is injective for groups with finite asymptotic dimension that admit a finite model for the classifying space for proper actions. The result also applies to certain groups that admit only a finite dimensional model for this space. In particular, it applies to discrete subgroups of virtually connected Lie groups.
