The solution of the global controllability problem is obtained for a class of the triangular systems of O.D.E. that are not feedback linearizable. The introduced class is a generalization of the classes of triangular systems investigated before. The solution of the problem is based on the approach proposed in another work [18] devoted to the triangular systems of the Volterra equations and written jointly with W.H. Schmidt by the current authors. This yields the same properties of the considered class of triangular systems as those established in [18] for the Volterra systems. As well as in [18], for the current class of triangular systems, it is proven that there exists a family of continuous controls that solve the global controllability problem for the considered class and continuously depend on the initial and the terminal states. As well as in [18], this implies the global controllability of the bounded perturbations of the current class. In contrast with [18], to prove the existence of the desired family of open-loop controls, we construct a family of closed-loop ones each of which steers the corresponding initial state into an appropriate neighborhood of an appropriate terminal point.
We investigate a new class of nonlinear control systems of O.D.E., which are not feedback linearizable in general. Our class is a generalization of the well-known feedback linearizable systems, and moreover it is a generalization of the triangular (or pure-feedback) forms studied before. The definition of our class is global, and coordinate-free, which is why the problem of the equivalence is solved for our class in the whole state space at the very beginning. The goal of this paper is to prove the global controllability of our nonlinear systems. We propose to treat our class as a new canonica…
In this paper, we deal with the boundary controllability of a one-dimensional degenerate and singular wave equation with degeneracy and singularity occurring at the boundary of the spatial domain. Exact boundary controllability is proved in the range of subcritical/critical potentials and for sufficiently large time, through a boundary controller acting away from the degenerate/singular point. By duality argument, we reduce the problem to an observability estimate for the corresponding adjoint system, which is proved by means of the multiplier method and a new special Hardy-type inequality.
In this paper we study the boundary controllability for a system of two coupled degenerate/singular parabolic equations with a control acting on only one equation. We analyze both approximate and null boundary controllability properties. Besides, we provide an estimate on the null-control cost. The proofs are based on the use of the moment method by Fattorini and Russell together with some results on biorthogonal families.
In this paper we focus on the null controllability problem for the heat equation with the so-called inverse square potential and a memory term. To this aim, we first establish the null controllability for a nonhomogeneous singular heat equation by a new Carleman inequality with weights which do not blow up at t=0. Then the null controllability property is proved for the singular heat equation with memory under a condition on the kernel, by means of Kakutani's fixed-point Theorem.
In this paper, we consider a null controllability and an inverse source problem for stochastic Grushin equation with boundary degeneracy and singularity. We construct two special weight functions to establish two Carleman estimates for the whole stochastic Grushin operator with singular potential by a weighted identity method. One is for the backward stochastic Grushin equation with singular weight function. We then apply it to prove the null controllability for stochastic Grushin equation for any $T$ and any degeneracy $γ>0$, when our control domain touches the degeneracy line $\{x=0\}$. In o…
Pinning control on complex dynamical networks has emerged as a very important topic in recent trends of control theory due to the extensive study of collective coupled behaviors and their role in physics, engineering and biology. In practice, real-world networks consists of a large number of vertices and one may only be able to perform a control on a fraction of them only. Controllability of such systems has been addressed in \cite{PorfiriDiBernardo:Automatica08}, where it was reformulated as a global asymptotic stability problem. The goal of this short note is to refine the analysis proposed …

A new systematic approach to the construction of approximate solutions to a class of nonlinear singularly perturbed feedback control systems using the boundary layer functions especially with regard to the possible occurrence of the boundary layers is proposed. For example, problems with feedback control, such as the steady-states of the thermostats, where the controllers add or remove heat, depending upon the temperature registered in another place of the heated bar, can be interpreted with a second-order ordinary differential equation subject to a nonlocal three--point boundary condition. Th…
The aim of this paper is to answer the question: Do the controls of a vanishing viscosity approximation of the one dimensional linear wave equation converge to a control of the conservative limit equation? Our viscous term contains the fractional power of the Dirichlet Laplace operator and it is multiplied by a small parameter devoted to tend to zero. Our analysis, based on moment problems and biorthogonal sequences, enables us to evaluate the magnitude of the controls needed for each eigenmode and to show their uniform boundedness with respect to the vanishing parameter.
We consider the problem of boundary control for a vibrating string with $N$ interior point masses. We assume the control is at the left end, and the string is fixed at the right end. Singularities in waves are "smoothed" out to one order as they cross a point mass. We characterize the reachable set for a $L^2$ control. The control problem is reduced to a moment problem, which is then solved using the theory of exponential divided differences in tandem with unique shape and velocity controllability results.
In this paper, we establish two Carleman estimates for a stochastic degenerate parabolic equation. The first one is for the backward stochastic degenerate parabolic equation with singular weight function. Combining this Carleman estimate and an approximate argument, we prove the null controllability of the forward stochastic degenerate parabolic equation with the gradient term. The second one is for the forward stochastic degenerate parabolic equation with regular weighted function, based on which we obtain the Lipschitz stability for an inverse problem of determining a random source depending…
In this paper we study the structural stability of a bang-singular-bang extremal in the minimum time problem between fixed points. The dynamics is single-input and control-affine. On the nominal problem ($r = 0$), we assume the coercivity of a suitable second variation along the singular arc and regularity both of the bang arcs and of the junction points, thus obtaining the strict strong local optimality for the given bang-singular-bang extremal trajectory. Moreover, as in the classically studied regular cases, we assume a suitable controllability property, which grants the uniqueness of the a…
