The Siciak-Zahariuta extremal function as the envelope of disc functionals

备注:
Version 3 contains a proof of Lempert's formula for the S-Z function in the convex case, in slightly modified form, for an arbitrary connected open subset of affine space. This was the main problem left unsolved in the earlier versions. The rest of the paper is essentially unchanged from version 2
We establish disc formulas for the Siciak-Zahariuta extremal function of an arbitrary open subset of complex affine space, generalizing Lempert's formula for the convex case. This function is also known as the pluricomplex Green function with logarithmic growth or a logarithmic pole at infinity. We extend Lempert's formula for this function from the convex case to the connected case.
We use our disc formula for the Siciak-Zahariuta extremal function to characterize the polynomial hull of a connected compact subset of complex affine space in terms of analytic discs.
We prove a disc formula for the weighted Siciak-Zahariuta extremal function $V_{X,q}$ for an upper semicontinuous function $q$ on an open connected subset $X$ in $\C^n$. This function is also known as the weighted Green function with logaritmic pole at infinity and weighted global extremal function.
We prove two disc formulas for the Siciak-Zahariuta extremal function of an arbitrary open subset of complex affine space. We use these formulas to characterize the polynomial hull of an arbitrary compact subset of complex affine space in terms of analytic discs. Similar results in previous work of ours required the subsets to be connected.
We prove that for any given upper semicontinuous function $φ$ on an open subset $E$ of $\mathbb C^n\setminus\{0\}$, such that the complex cone generated by $E$ minus the origin is connected, the homogeneous Siciak-Zaharyuta function with the weight $φ$ on $E$, can be represented as an envelope of a disc functional.
We establish plurisubharmonicity of envelopes of certain classical disc functionals on locally irreducible complex spaces, thereby generalizing the corresponding results for complex manifolds. We also find new formulae expressing the Siciak-Zaharyuta extremal function of an open set in a locally irreducible affine algebraic variety as the envelope of certain disc functionals, similarly to what has been done for open sets in C^n by Lempert and by Larusson and Sigurdsson.
Weighted pluripotential theory is a rapidly developing area; and Callaghan \cite{Callaghan} recently introduced $θ$-incomplete polynomials in \cd for $d>1$. In this paper we combine these two theories by defining weighted $θ$-incomplete pluripotential theory. We define weighted $θ$-incomplete extremal functions and obtain a Siciak-Zahariuta type equality in terms of $θ$-incomplete polynomials. Finally we prove that the extremal functions can be recovered using orthonormal polynomials and we demonstrate a result on strong asymptotics of Bergman functions in the spirit of \cite{BermanCn}.
We prove that a function, which is defined on a union of lines $\mathbb{C} E$ through the origin in $\mathbb{C}^n$ with direction vectors in $E\subset \mathbb{C}^n$ and is holomorphic of fixed finite order and finite type along each line, extends to an entire holomorphic function on $\mathbb{C}^n$ of the same order and finite type, provided that $E$ has positive homogeneous capacity in the sense of Siciak and all directional derivatives along the lines satisfy a necessary compatibility condition at the origin. We are able to estimate the indicator function of the extension in terms of Siciak's…
We study the smoothness of the Siciak-Zaharjuta extremal function associated to a convex body in $\mathbb{R}^2$. We also prove a formula relating the complex equilibrium measure of a convex body in $\mathbb{R}^n$ to that of its Robin indicatrix. The main tool we use are extremal ellipses.
In 1962 J. Siciak introduced polynomial extremal function. The Siciak extremal function is one of the most important tool to investigate derivatives of polynomials. W. Pleśniak in the circle of papers (most important joint with W. Pawłucki) showed deep connections between behavior of Siciak extremal function near compact $K$ and bounds for derivatives of polynomials. In 1990 W. Pleśniak introduced condition (P) which is equivalent to Markov property of compact $K$. In the same paper there was stated a problem which property of Siciak's extremal function are necessary to Markov's property. A st…
We discuss the Siciak-Zaharjuta extremal function of a real convex body in C^n, a solution of the homogeneous complex Monge-Ampere equation on the exterior of the convex body. We determine several conditions under which a foliation by holomorphic curves can be found in the complement of the convex body along which the extremal function is harmonic. We study a variational problem for holomorphic disks in projective space passing through prescribed points at infinity. The extremal curves are all complex quadric curves, and the geometry of such curves allows for the determination of the leaves of…
We discuss the Siciak-Zaharjuta extremal function of pluripotential theory for the unit ball in C^d for spaces of polynomials with the notion of degree determined by a convex body P. We then use it to analyze the approximation properties of such polynomial spaces, and how these may differ depending on the function f to be approximated.
We introduce from an analytic perspective Christoffel-Darboux kernels associated to bounded, tracial noncommutative distributions. We show that properly normalized traces, respectively norms, of evaluations of such kernels on finite dimensional matrices yield classical plurisubharmonic functions as the degree tends to infinity, and show that they are comparable to certain noncommutative versions of the Siciak extremal function. We prove estimates for Siciak functions associated to free products of distributions, and use the classical theory of plurisubharmonic functions in order to propose a n…
We define an analog of the Leja-Siciak-Zaharjuta subharmonic extremal function for a proper subset $E$ of the Berkovich projective line $P^1$ over a field with a non-archimedean absolute value, relative to a point $ζ\not \in E$. When $E$ is a compact set with positive capacity, we prove that the upper semicontinuous regularization of this extremal function equals the Green function of $E$ relative to $ζ$. As a separate result, we prove the Brelot-Cartan principle, under the additional assumption that the Berkovich topology is second countable.
We use geometric methods to calculate a formula for the complex Monge-Ampère measure $(dd^cV_K)^n$, for $K \Subset \RR^n \subset \CC^n$ a convex body and $V_K$ its Siciak-Zaharjuta extremal function. Bedford and Taylor had computed this for symmetric convex bodies $K$. We apply this to show that two methods for deriving Bernstein-Markov-type inequalities, i.e., pointwise estimates of gradients of polynomials, yield the same results for all convex bodies. A key role is played by the geometric result that the extremal inscribed ellipses appearing in approximation theory are the maximal area elli…
