We establish a new symmetrization procedure for the isoperimetric problem in symmetric spaces of noncompact type. This symmetrization generalizes the well known Steiner symmetrization in euclidean space. In contrast to the classical construction the symmetrized domain is obtained by solving a nonlinear elliptic equation of mean curvature type. We conclude the paper discussing possible applications to the isoperimetric problem in symmetric spaces of noncompact type.

The isoperimetric problem via direct method in noncompact metric measure spaces with lower Ricci bounds

We establish a structure theorem for minimizing sequences for the isoperimetric problem on noncompact $\mathsf{RCD}(K,N)$ spaces $(X,\mathsf{d},\mathcal{H}^N)$. Sharp isoperimetric inequalities for small volumes in complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds of bounded geometry involving the scalar curvature

We provide an isoperimetric comparison theorem for small volumes in an $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold $(M^n,g)$ with strong bounded geometry, as in Definition $2.3$, involving the scalar curvature function. On the isoperimetric problem in Euclidean space with density

We study the isoperimetric problem for Euclidean space endowed with a continuous density. In dimension one, we characterize isoperimetric regions for a unimodal density. In higher dimensions, we prove existence results and we derive stability conditions, which lead to the conjecture that for a radial log-convex density, balls about the origin are isoperimetric regions. Finally, we prove this conjecture and the uniqueness of minimizers for the density $\exp (|x|^2)$ by using symmetrization techniques.

Sharp isoperimetric and Sobolev inequalities in spaces with nonnegative Ricci curvature

By using optimal mass transport theory we prove a sharp isoperimetric inequality in ${\sf CD} (0,N)$ metric measure spaces assuming an asymptotic volume growth at infinity. Our result extends recently proven isoperimetric inequalities for normed spaces and Riemannian manifolds to a nonsmooth framework.
