We study the scattering problem for the nonlinear wave equation with potential. In the absence of the potential, one has sharp existence results for the Cauchy problem with small initial data; those require the data to decay at a rate greater than or equal to a critical decay rate which depends on the order of the nonlinearity. However, scattering results have appeared only for the supercritical case. In this paper, we extend the scattering results to the critical case and we also allow the presence of a short-range potential.
We discuss a time-harmonic inverse scattering problem for a nonlinear Helmholtz equation with compactly supported inhomogeneous scattering objects that are described by a nonlinear refractive index in unbounded free space. Assuming the knowledge of a nonlinear far field operator, which maps Herglotz incident waves to the far field patterns of corresponding solutions of the nonlinear scattering problem, we show that the nonlinear index of refraction is uniquely determined. We also generalize two reconstruction methods, a factorization method and a monotonicity method, to recover the support of …
We consider large time behavior of solutions to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a homogeneous nonlinearity of the critical order which is not necessarily a polynomial. We treat the case in which the nonlinearity contains non-oscillating factor $|u|^{1+2/d}$. The case is excluded in our previous studies. It turns out that there are no solutions that behave like a free solution with or without logarithmic phase corrections. We also prove nonexistence of an asymptotic free solution in the case that the gauge invariant nonlinearity is dominant, and give a finite time blow-up result.
In this paper, we prove the scattering for radial solutions to energy-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equations with regular potentials in defocusing case.
We consider nonlinear Schrödinger equations with either power-type or Hartree nonlinearity in the presence of an external potential. We show that for long-range nonlinearities, solutions cannot exhibit scattering to solitary waves or more general localized waves. This extends the well-known results concerning non-existence of non-trivial scattering states for long-range nonlinearities.
In this paper, we prove the decay and scattering in the energy space for nonlinear Schrödinger equations with regular potentials in $\Bbb R^d$ namely, $i{\partial _t}u + Δu - V(x)u + λ|u|^{p - 1}u = 0$. We will prove decay estimate and scattering of the solution in the small data case when $1+\frac{2}{d}<p\le1+\frac{4}{d-2}$, $d\ge3$. The index $1+\frac{2}{d}$ is sharp for scattering concerning the result of W. Strauss [21].
In this note we prove scattering for a defocusing nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger equation with initial data lying in a critical Besov space. In addition, we obtain polynomial bounds on the scattering size as a function of the critical Besov norm.
In this paper we discuss global well - posedness and scattering for some initial value problems that are $L^{2}$ supercritical and $\dot{H}^{1}$ subcritical, with radial data. We prove global well - posedness and scattering for radial data in $H^{s}$, $s > s_{c}$, where the problem is $\dot{H}^{s_{c}}$ - critical. We make use of the long time Strichartz estimates of \cite{D2} to do this.
We use modified scattering theory to demonstrate that small-data solutions to the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation on rescaled waveguide manifolds, $\mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{T}^d$ for $d\geq 2$, demonstrate boundedness of Sobolev norms as well as weak instability.
When the spatial dimensions $n$=2, the initial data $u_0\in H^1$ and the Hamiltonian $H(u_0)\leq 1$, we prove that the scattering operator is well-defined in the whole energy space $H^1(\mathbb{R}^2)$ for nonlinear Schrödinger equation with exponential nonlinearity $(e^{λ|u|^2}-1)u$, where $0<λ<4π$.
In this article, we prove the global well-posedness and scattering of the cubic focusing infinite coupled nonlinear Schrödinger system on $\mathbb{R}^2$ below the threshold in $L_x^2h^1(\mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{Z})$. We first establish the variational characterization of the ground state, and derive the threshold of the global well-posedness and scattering. Then we show the global well-posedness and scattering below the threshold by the concentration-compactness/rigidity method, where the almost periodic solution is excluded by adapting the argument in the proof of the mass-critical nonlinea…
In this paper we prove global well-posedness and scattering for the defocusing, cubic, nonlinear wave equation on $\mathbf{R}^{1 + 3}$ with radial initial data lying in the critical Sobolev space $\dot{H}^{1/2}(\mathbf{R}^{3}) \times \dot{H}^{-1/2}(\mathbf{R}^{3})$.
This article resolves some errors in the paper "Scattering threshold for the focusing nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation", Analysis & PDE 4 (2011) no. 3, 405-460. The errors are in the energy-critical cases in two and higher dimensions.
In the present paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of nonlinear Schrödinger equations with a derivative nonlinearity which depends only on $\bar{u}$. The well-posedness of the equation at the scaling subcritical regularity was proved by A. Grünrock (2000). We prove the well-posedness of the equation and the scattering for the solution at the scaling critical regularity by using $U^{2}$ space and $V^{2}$ space which are applied to prove the well-posedness and the scattering for KP-II equation at the scaling critical regularity by Hadac, Herr and Koch (2009).
We consider the one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a nonlinearity of degree $p>1$. We exhibit measures on the space of initial data for which we describe the non trivial evolution by the linear Schrödinger flow and we show that their nonlinear evolution is absolutely continuous with respect to this linear evolution. We deduce from this precise description the global well-posedness of the equation for $p>1$ and scattering for $p>3$. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first occurence where the description of quasi-invariant measures allows to get quantitative asymptotics (h…
In this paper, we study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with focusing point nonlinearity in dimension one. First, we establish a scattering criterion for the equation based on Kenig-Merle's compactness-rigidity argument. Then we prove the energy scattering below and above the mass-energy threshold. We also describe the dynamics of solutions with data at the ground state threshold. Finally, we prove a blow-up criteria for the equation with initial data with arbitrarily large energy.
In this paper, we consider the quadratic nonlinear Schrödinger system in three space dimensions. Our aim is to obtain sharp scattering criteria. Because of the mass-subcritical nature, it is difficult to do so in terms of conserved quantities. The corresponding single equation is studied by the second author and a sharp scattering criteria is established by introducing a distance from a trivial scattering solution, the zero solution. By the structure of the nonlinearity we are dealing with, the system admits a scattering solution which is a pair of zero solution and a linear solution. Taking t…
We study an inverse source scattering problem for the Schrödinger equation with a quadratic nonlinearity. In general, uniqueness of inverse source problems can not be guaranteed at a fixed energy. Therefore, additional information is required for the source in order to obtain a unique solution. By adding reference point sources, we show that a general source function could be uniquely determined from boundary measurements at a fixed wavenumber. This method does not apply to inverse source problems of linear equations since it uses the nonlinearity as a tool. The proof utilizes the method of li…
We consider the Cauchy problem for a family of semilinear defocusing Schrödinger equations with monomial nonlinearities in one space dimension. We establish global well-posedness and scattering. Our analysis is based on a four-particle interaction Morawetz estimate giving \emph{a priori} $L^8_{t,x}$ spacetime control on solutions.
We prove scattering for a massless wave equation which is critical in two space dimensions. Our method combines conformal inversion with decay estimates from Struwe's previous work on global existence of a similar equation.
In this paper, we consider the scattering problem for a class of $N$-coupled systems of the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equations in three space dimensions. We prove the scattering of solutions that have a mass-energy quantity less than that for the ground states. This result is previously obtained by Duyckaerts-Holmer-Roudenko for the single cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in three space dimensions. It turns out that the result can be extended to a wide class of $N$-coupled systems.
We consider the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with double nonlinearities with opposite sign, with one term is mass-critical and the other term is mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical, which includes the famous two-dimensional cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equaton. We prove global wellposedness and scattering in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^d)$ below the threshold for non-radial data when $1 \le d \le 4$.
In the present paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of fourth order nonlinear Schrödinger type equations with a derivative nonlinearity. In one dimensional case, we prove that the fourth order nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the derivative quartic nonlinearity $\partial _x (\overline{u}^4)$ is the small data global in time well-posed and scattering to a free solution. Furthermore, we show that the same result holds for the $d \ge 2$ and derivative polynomial type nonlinearity, for example $|\nabla | (u^m)$ with $(m-1)d \ge 4$.
We study the long-time behavior of solutions to nonlinear Schroedinger equations with some critical rough potential of inverse square type. The new ingredients are the interaction Morawetz-type inequalities and Sobolev norm property associated with the Lapalacian with inverse square potential. We use such properties to obtain the scattering theory for the defocusing energy-subcritical nonlinear Schroedinger equation with inverse square potential in energy space.
In this paper we consider the real-valued mass-critical nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations in three and higher dimensions. We prove the dichotomy between scattering and blow-up below the ground state energy in the focusing case, and the energy scattering in the defocusing case. We use the concentration-compactness/rigidity method as R. Killip, B. Stovall, and M. Visan [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 364 (2012)]. The main new novelty is to approximate the large scale (low-frequency) profile by the solution of the mass-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation when the nonlinearity is not algebraic.
In this paper we prove that the energy - critical nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger equation in the domain exterior to a convex obstacle is globally well - posed and scattering for initial data having finite energy. To prove this we utilize frequency localized Morawetz estimates adapted to an exterior domain.
In this article, we consider the infinite dimensional vector-valued resonant nonlinear Schrödinger system, which arises from the study of the asymptotic behavior of the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on "wave guide" manifolds like $\mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{T}$ in [7]. We show global well-posedness and scattering for this system by long time Strichartz estimates and frequency localized interaction Morawetz estimates. As a by-product, our results make the arguments of scattering theory in [7] closed as crucial ingredients for compactness of the critical elements.
In this article, we will show the global wellposedness and scattering of the cubic defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on waveguide $\mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{T}$ in $H^1$. We first establish the linear profile decomposition in $H^{ 1}(\mathbb{R}^2 \times \mathbb{T})$ motivated by the linear profile decomposition of the mass-critical Schrödinger equation in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^2)$. Then by using the solution of the infinite dimensional vector-valued resonant nonlinear Schrödinger system to approximate the nonlinear profile, we can prove scattering in $H^1$ by using the concentration-compact…
We extend the scattering result for the radial defocusing-focusing mass-energy double critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation in $d\leq 4$ given by Cheng et al. to the case $d\geq 5$. The main ingredient is a suitable long time perturbation theory which is applicable for $d\geq 5$. The paper will therefore give a full characterization on the scattering threshold for the radial defocusing-focusing mass-energy double critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation in all dimensions $d\geq 3$.
We study the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation on a product space $M=\R\times X$ with metric $\tilde{g}=dt^2-g$ where $g$ is the scattering metic on $X$. We establish the global-in-time Strichartz estimate for Klein-Gordon equation without loss of derivative by using the microlocalized spectral measure of Laplacian on scattering manifold showed in \cite{HZ} and a Littlewood-Paley squarefunction estimate proved in \cite{Zhang}. We prove the global existence and scattering for a family of nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations for small initial data with minimum regularity on this setting.
We prove sharp $L^\infty$ decay and modified scattering for a one-dimensional dispersion-managed cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with small initial data chosen from a weighted Sobolev space. Specifically, we work with an averaged version of the dispersion-managed NLS in the strong dispersion management regime. The proof adapts techniques from Hayashi-Naumkin and Kato-Pusateri, which established small-data modified scattering for the standard $1d$ cubic NLS.
In this paper, we consider a Hamiltonian system combining a nonlinear Schr\" odinger equation (NLS) and an ordinary differential equation (ODE). This system is a simplified model of the NLS around soliton solutions. Following Nakanishi \cite{NakanishiJMSJ}, we show scattering of $L^2$ small $H^1$ radial solutions. The proof is based on Nakanishi's framework and Fermi Golden Rule estimates on $L^4$ in time norms.
In this paper we prove global well - posedness and scattering for the focusing, energy - critical nonlinear Schrödinger initial value problem in four dimensions. Previous work proved this in five dimensions and higher using the double Duhamel trick. In this paper, using long time Strichartz estimates we are able to overcome the logarithmic blowup in four dimensions.
In this paper we prove that the defocusing, quintic nonlinear Schrödinger initial value problem is globally well-posed and scattering for $u_{0} \in L^{2}(\mathbf{R})$. To do this, we will prove a frequency localized interaction Morawetz estimate similar to the estimate made in [11]. Since we are considering an $L^{2}$ - critical initial value problem we will localize to low frequencies.
In this paper, we consider the energy critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a repulsive inverse square potential. In particular, we deal with radial initial data, whose energy is equal to the energy of static solution to the corresponding nonlinear Schrödinger equation without a potential. We investigate time behavior of the radial solutions with such initial data.
We prove scattering of solutions below the energy norm of the 3D Klein-Gordon equation for 5>p>3. In order to do that, we generate an exponential-type decay estimate in H^{s}, s<1, by means of concentration and a low-high frequency decomposition.
In this paper, we study the long-time behavior of global solutions to the Schrödinger-Choquard equation $$i\partial_tu+Δu=-(I_α\ast|\cdot|^b|u|^{p})|\cdot|^b|u|^{p-2}u.$$ Inspired by Murphy, who gave a simple proof of scattering for the non-radial inhomogeneous NLS, we prove scattering theory below the ground state for the intercritical case in energy space without radial assumption.
We consider Cauchy problem of the Hartree-type nonlinear Dirac equation with potentials given by $V_b(x) = \frac1{4π}\frac{e^{-b|x|}}{|x|}\, (b \ge 0)$. In previous works, a standard argument is to utilise null form estimates in order to prove global well-posedness for $H^s$-data, $s>0$. However, the null structure inside the equations is not enough to attain the critical regularity. We impose an extra regularity assumption with respect to the angular variable. Firstly, we prove global well-posedness and scattering of Dirac equations with Hartree-type nonlinearity for $b>0$ for small $L^2_x$-d…
In this paper, we study the inverse medium scattering problem to reconstruct unknown inhomogeneous medium from far field patterns of scattered waves. In the first part of our work, the linear inverse scattering problem was discussed, while in the second part, we deal with the nonlinear problem. The main idea is to apply the linear Kalman filter to the linearized problem. There are several ways to linearize, which introduce two reconstruction algorithms. Finally, we give numerical examples to demonstrate our proposed method.
In this paper, we consider the Maxwell-Dirac system in 3 dimension under zero magnetic field. We prove the global well-posedness and modified scattering for small solutions in the weighted Sobolev class. Imposing the Lorenz gauge condition, (and taking the Dirac projection operator), it becomes a system of Dirac equations with Hartree type nonlinearity with a long range potential as $|x|^{-1} $. We perform the weighted energy estimates. In this procedure, we have to deal with various resonance functions that stem from the Dirac projections. We use the spacetime resonance argument of Germain-Ma…
We consider the problem of large data scattering for the quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation on $\R \times \T^2$. This equation is critical both at the level of energy and mass. Most notably, we exhibit a new type of profile (a "large scale profile") that controls the asymptotic behavior of the solutions.
