From operator categories to topological operads

In this paper we introduce the notion of an operator category and two different models for homotopy theory of $\infty$-operads over an operator category -- one of which extends Lurie's theory of $\infty$-operads, the other of which is completely new, even in the commutative setting. On the category of props

The category of (colored) props is an enhancement of the category of colored operads, and thus of the category of small categories. Resolution of coloured operads and rectification of homotopy algebras

We provide general conditions under which the algebras for a coloured operad in a monoidal model category carry a Quillen model structure, and prove a Comparison Theorem to the effect that a weak equivalence between suitable such operads induces a Quillen equivalence between their categories of algebras. We construct an explicit Boardman-Vogt style cofibrant resolution for coloured operads, thereby giving a uniform approach to algebraic structures up to homotopy over coloured operads. The Comparison Theorem implies that such structures can be rectified.

The configuration category of a product

A construction related to the Boardman-Vogt tensor product of operads allows us to describe the configuration category of a product manifold $M\times N$ in terms of the configuration categories of the factors $M$ and $N$.

$A_\infty$-actions and Recognition of Relative Loop Spaces

We show that relative loop spaces are recognized by $A_\infty$-actions. A certain version of the 2-sided bar construction is used to prove such recognition theorem. The operad ${\sf Act}_\infty$ of $A_\infty$-actions is presented in terms of the Boardman-Vogt resolution of the operad ${\sf Act}$. We exhibit an operad homotopy equivalence between such resolution and the $1$-dimensional Swiss-cheese operad $\mathcal{SC}_1$.

Weak braided monoidal categories and their homotopy colimits

We show that the homotopy colimit construction for diagrams of categories with an operad action, recently introduced by Fiedorowicz, Stelzer and Vogt, has the desired homotopy type for diagrams of weak braided monoidal categories. This provides a more flexible way to realize E-2 spaces categorically.

Operads in iterated monoidal categories

The structure of a $k$-fold monoidal category as introduced by Balteanu, Fiedorowicz, Schwänzl and Vogt can be seen as a weaker structure than a symmetric or even braided monoidal category.
