We give an explicit description of the "canonical basic set'' for all Iwahori-Hecke algebras of finite Weyl groups in "good'' characteristic. We obtain a complete classification of simple modules for this type of algebras.
We prove a conjecture of Kashiwara and Miemietz on canonical bases and branching rules of affine Hecke algebras of type D. The proof is similar to the proof of the type B case.
We prove a series of conjectures of Enomoto and Kashiwara on canonical bases and branching rules of affine Hecke algebras of type B. The main ingredient of the proof is a new graded Ext-algebra associated with quiver with involutions that we compute explicitly.
We study the Schur elements and the a-function for cyclotomic Hecke algebras. As a consequence, we show the existence of canonical basic sets, as defined by Geck-Rouquier, for certain complex reflection groups. This includes the case of finite Weyl groups for all choices of parameters (in characteristic 0).
We describe an algorithm for computing the $p$-canonical basis of the Hecke algebra, or one of its antispherical modules. The algorithm does not operate in the Hecke category directly, but rather uses a faithful embedding of the Hecke category inside a semisimple category to build a "model" for indecomposable objects and bases of their morphism spaces. Inside this semisimple category, objects are sequences of Coxeter group elements, and morphisms are (sparse) matrices over a fraction field, making it quite amenable to computations. This strategy works for the full Hecke category over any base …
In this note we are interested in labelling the irreducible representations of non-semisimple specialisations of Hecke algebras of complex reflection groups. We will use category O for the rational Cherednik algebra and the KZ functor together with elementary algebraic and combinatorial arguments to construct "canonical basic sets" in many cases. We will also show that the images of the standard modules through the KZ functor agree with the appropriate cell modules, whenever the Hecke algebra has a cellular structure.
We describe a positive characteristic analogue of the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis of the Hecke algebra of a crystallographic Coxeter system and investigate some of its properties. Using Soergel calculus we describe an algorithm to calculate this basis. We outline some known or expected applications in modular representation theory. We conclude by giving several examples.
For any affine Weyl group, we introduce the pre-canonical bases. They are a set of bases $\{\mathbf{N}^i\}_{1\leq i \leq m+1} $ (where $m$ is the height of the highest root) of the spherical Hecke algebra that interpolates between the standard basis $\mathbf{N}^1$ and the canonical basis $\mathbf{N}^{m+1}$. The expansion of $\mathbf{N}^{i+1}$ in terms of the $\mathbf{N}^i$ is in many cases very simple and we conjecture that in type $A$ it is positive.
In this paper we prove theorems that describe how the representation theory of the affine Hecke algebra of type A and of related algebras such as the group algebra of the symmetric group are controlled by integrable highest weight representations of the characteristic zero affine Lie algebra \hat{sl}_l. In particular we parameterise the representations of these algebras by the nodes of the crystal graph, and give various Hecke theoretic descriptions of the edges. As a consequence we find for each prime p a basis of the integrable representations of \hat{sl}_l which shares many of the remarkabl…
A criterion of irreducibility for induction products of evaluation modules of type A affine Hecke algebras is given. It is derived from multiplicative properties of the canonical basis of a quantum deformation of the Bernstein-Zelevinsky ring.
In this paper we propose a new approach to tilting modules for reductive algebraic groups in positive characteristic. We conjecture that translation functors give an action of the (diagrammatic) Hecke category of the affine Weyl group on the principal block. Our conjecture implies character formulas for the simple and tilting modules in terms of the p-canonical basis, as well as a description of the principal block as the anti-spherical quotient of the Hecke category. We prove our conjecture for GL_n using the theory of 2-Kac-Moody actions. Finally, we prove that the diagrammatic Hecke categor…
By a result of Mathas, the basis element T_{w_0} of the Hecke algebra of a finite Coxeter group acts in the canonical basis of a cell module as a permutation matrix times plus or minus a power of v. We generalize this result to the unequal parameter case,. We also show that the image of T_{w_0} in the corresponding asymptotic Hecke algebra is given by a simple formula.
More than 10 years ago, Dipper, James and Murphy developped the theory of Specht modules for Hecke algebras of type $B\_n$. More recently, using Lusztig's a-function, Geck and Rouquier showed how to obtain parametrisations of the irreducible representations of Hecke algebras (of any finite type) in terms of so-called canonical basic sets. For certain values of the parameters in type $B\_n$, combinatorial descriptions of these basic sets were found by Jacon, based on work of Ariki and Foda-Leclerc-Okado-Thibon-Welsh. Here, we consider the canonical basic sets for all the remaining choices of th…
This is an expository article. We survey some fundamental trends in representation theory of symmetric groups and related objects which became apparent in the last fifteen years. The emphasis is on connections with Lie theory via categorification. We present results on branching rules and crystal graphs, decomposition numbers and canonical bases, graded representation theory, connections with cyclotomic and affine Hecke algebras, Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras, category ${\mathcal O}$, $W$-algebras, ...
After establishing a geometric Schur-Weyl duality in a general setting, we recall this duality in type A in the finite and affine case. We extend the duality in the affine case to positive parts of the affine algebras. The positive parts have nice ideals coming from geometry, allowing duality for quotients. Some of the quotients of the positive affine Hecke algebra are then identified to some cyclotomic Hecke algebras and the geometric setting allows the construction of canonical bases.
We introduce graded Hecke algebras H based on a (possibly disconnected) complex reductive group G and a cuspidal local system L on a unipotent orbit of a Levi subgroup M of G. These generalize the graded Hecke algebras defined and investigated by Lusztig for connected G. We develop the representation theory of the algebras H. obtaining complete and canonical parametrizations of the irreducible, the irreducible tempered and the discrete series representations. All the modules are constructed in terms of perverse sheaves and equivariant homology, relying on work of Lusztig. The parameters come d…
Let $F$ be a local non-archimedian field and $G$ be the group of $F$-points of a split connected reductive group over $F$. In a previous aricle we defined an algebra $\mathcal J(G)$ of functions on $G$ which contains the Hecke algebra $\mathcal H(G)$ and is contained in the Harish-Chandra Schwartz algebra $\mathcal C(G)$. We consider $\mathcal J(G)$ as an algebraic analog the algebra $\mathcal C(G)$. Given a parabolic subgroup $P$ of $G$ with a Levi subgroup $M$ and the unipotent radical $U_P$ we write $X_P:=G/U_P$. In this paper we study two versions of the Schwartz space of $X_P$. The first …
Let H be a Hecke algebra arising as an endomorphism algebra of the representation of a Chevalley group G over F_q induced by a unipotent cuspidal representation of a Levi quotient L of a parabolic subgroup. We assume that L is not a torus. In this paper we outline a geometric interpretation of the coefficients of the canonical basis of H in terms of perverse sheaves. We illustrate this in detail in the case where the Weyl group of G is of type B_4 and that of L is of type B_2.
These notes are based on a course given at the EPFL in May 2005. It is concerned with the representation theory of Hecke algebras in the non-semisimple case. We explain the role that these algebras play in the modular representation theory of finite groups of Lie type and survey the recent results which complete the classification of the simple modules. These results rely on the theory of Kazhdan--Lusztig cells in finite Weyl groups (with respect to possibly unequal parameters) and the theory of canonical bases for representations of quantum groups.
This article gives a fairly self-contained treatment of the basic facts about the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of a split p-adic group, including Bernstein's presentation, Macdonald's formula, the Casselman-Shalika formula, and the Lusztig-Kato formula.
The Hecke category is emerging as a fundamental object in representation theory. We give a motivated introduction to this category in both its geometric (via parity sheaves) and diagrammatic (generators and relations) incarnations. We also discuss the p-canonical basis and Koszul duality for the Hecke category.
These are notes prepared for ICRA workshop at Torun, Poland, August 2007. In the first part, we explain results on canonical basic sets by Geck and Jacon and propose a categorification framework which is suitable for our example of Hecke algebras. In the second part, we review basics of Kashiwara crystal and explain the Fock space theory of cyclotomic Hecke algebras and its applications. In the third part, we explain Rouquier's theory of quasihereditary covers of cyclotomic Hecke algebras. We add detailed explanation of the proofs here. The third part is based on my intensive course given at N…
We give conceptual proofs of certain basic properties of the arrangement of shifted root hyperplanes associated to a root system and a Weyl group invariant real valued parameter function on the root system. The method is based on the role of this shifted root hyperplane arrangement for the harmonic analysis of affine Hecke algebras. In addition this yields a conceptual proof of the description of the central support of the Plancherel measure of an affine Hecke algebra given in math.RT.0101007v4.
We define exact functors from categories of Harish-Chandra modules for certain real classical groups to finite-dimensional modules over an associated graded affine Hecke algebra with parameters. We then study some of the basic properties of these functors. In particular, we show that they map irreducible spherical representations to irreducible spherical representations and, moreover, that they preserve unitarity. In the case of split classical groups, we thus obtain a functorial inclusion of the real spherical unitary dual (with real infinitesimal character) into the corresponding p-adic sphe…
The aim of this paper is to gather and (try to) unify several approaches for the modular representation theory of Hecke algebras of type $B$. We attempt to explain the connections between Geck's cellular structures (coming from Kazhdan-Lusztig theory with unequal parameters) and Ariki's Theorem on the canonical basis of the Fock spaces.
For symmetric groups we show that the p-canonical basis can be extended to a cell datum for the Iwahori-Hecke algebra H and that the two-sided p-cell preorder coincides with the Kazhdan-Lusztig two-sided cell preorder. Moreover, we show that left (or right) p-cells inside the same two-sided p-cell for Hecke algebras of finite crystallographic Coxeter systems are incomparable (Property A).
Let $G$ be a split reductive $p$-adic group. Let ${\mathcal H}(G)$ be its Hecke algebra and let ${\mathcal C}(G)\supset {\mathcal H}(G)$ be the Harish-Chandra Schwartz algebra. The purpose of this note is to give a spectral interpretation of Lusztig's asymptotic Hecke algebra $J$ (which contains the Iwahori part of ${\mathcal H}(G)$ as a subalgebra), which shows that $J$ is a subalgebra of ${\mathcal C} (G)$. This spectral description also allows to define a version of $J$ beyond the Iwahori component - i.e. we define certain subalgebra ${\mathcal J}(G)$ of ${\mathcal C}(G)$ which contains ${\…
The notion of rational spin double affine Hecke algebras (sDaHa) and rational double affine Hecke-Clifford algebras (DaHCa) associated to classical Weyl groups are introduced. The basic properties of these algebras such as the PBW basis and Dunkl operator representations are established. An algebra isomorphism relating the rational DaHCa to the rational sDaHa is obtained. We further develop a link between the usual rational Cherednik algebra and the rational sDaHa by introducing a notion of rational covering double affine Hecke algebras.
We give a new and independent parameterization of the set of discrete series characters of an affine Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}_{\mathbf{v}}$, in terms of a canonically defined basis $\mathcal{B}_{gm}$ of a certain lattice of virtual elliptic characters of the underlying (extended) affine Weyl group. This classification applies to all semisimple affine Hecke algebras $\mathcal{H}$, and to all $\mathbf{v}\in\mathcal{Q}$, where $\mathcal{Q}$ denotes the vector group of positive real (possibly unequal) Hecke parameters for $\mathcal{H}$. By analytic Dirac induction we define for each $b\in \mathc…
We establish branching rules between some Iwahori-Hecke algebra of type B and their subalgebras which are defined as fixed subalgebras by involutions including Goldman involution. The Iwahori-Hecke algebra of type D is one of such fixed subalgebras. We also obtain branching rules between those fixed subalgebras and their intersection subalgebra. We determine basic sets of irreducible representations of those fixed subalgebras and their intersection subalgebra by making use of generalized Clifford theory.
Let $H$ be the Iwahori-Hecke algebra and let $J$ be Lusztig's asymptotic Hecke algebra, both specialized to type $\tilde{A}_1$. For $\mathrm{SL}_2$, when the parameter $q$ is specialized to a prime power, Braverman and Kazhdan showed recently that a completion of $H$ has codimension two as a subalgebra of a completion of $J$, and described a basis for the quotient in spectral terms. In this note we write these functions explicitly in terms of the basis $\{t_w\}$ of $J$, and further invert the canonical isomorphism between the completions of $H$ and $J$, obtaining explicit formulas for the each…
This is an extended and corrected version of the author's Diplomarbeit. A class of algebras called generic pro-$p$ Hecke algebras is introduced, enlarging the class of generic Hecke algebras by considering certain extensions of (extended) Coxeter groups. Examples of generic pro-$p$ Hecke algebras are given by pro-$p$-Iwahori Hecke algebras and Yokonuma-Hecke algebras. The notion of an orientation of a Coxeter group is introduced and used to define `Bernstein maps' intimately related to Bernstein's presentation and to Cherednik's cocycle. It is shown that certain relations in the Hecke algebra …
We introduce a new class (in two versions) of rational double affine Hecke algebras (DaHa) associated to the spin symmetric group. We establish the basic properties of the algebras, such as PBW and Dunkl representation, and connections to Nazarov's degenerate affine Hecke-Clifford algebra and to a new degenerate affine Hecke algebra introduced here. We formulate a Morita equivalence between the two versions of rational DaHa's. The trigonometric generalization of the above constructions is also formulated and its relation to the rational counterpart is established.
We establish a Schur type duality between a coideal subalgebra of the quantum group of type A and the Hecke algebra of type B with 2 parameters. We identify the $\imath$-canonical basis on the tensor product of the natural representation with Lusztig's canonical basis of the type B Hecke algebra with unequal parameters associated to a weight function.
A fundamental open problem in algebraic combinatorics is to find a positive combinatorial formula for Kronecker coefficients, which are multiplicities of the decomposition of the tensor product of two §_r-irreducibles into irreducibles. Mulmuley and Sohoni attempt to solve this problem using canonical basis theory, by first constructing a nonstandard Hecke algebra B_r, which, though not a Hopf algebra, is a u-analogue of the Hopf algebra \CC §_r in some sense (where u is the Hecke algebra parameter). For r=3, we study this Hopf-like structure in detail. We define a nonstandard Hecke algebra \b…
Let $H=H_q(n)$ be the Hecke algebra of the symmetric group of degree n, over a field of arbitrary characteristic, and where q is a primitive l-th root of unity in $K$. Let $H_ρ$ be an l-parabolic subalgebra of $H$. We give an elementary explicit construction for the basic algebra of a non-simple block of $H_ρ$. We also discuss homological properties of $H_ρ$-modules, in particular existence of varieties for modules, and some consequences.
Let H be a non semi-simple Ariki-Koike algebra. According to [18] and [14], there is a generalisation of Lusztig's a-function which induces a natural order (parametrised by a tuple m) on Specht modules. In some cases, Geck and Jacon have proved that this order makes unitriangular the decomposition matrix of H. The algebra H is then said to admit a "canonical basic set". We fully classify which values of m afford a canonical basic set for H and which do not. When this is the case, we describe these sets in terms of "twisted Uglov" or "twisted Kleshchev" multipartitions.
Let $\mathfrak F$ be a locally compact nonarchimedean field with residue characteristic $p$ and $G$ the group of $\mathfrak{F}$-rational points of a connected split reductive group over $\mathfrak{F}$. We define a torsion pair in the category Mod$(H)$ of modules over the pro-$p$-Iwahori Hecke $k$-algebra $H$ of $G$, where $k$ is an arbitrary field. We prove that, under a certain hypothesis, the torsionfree class embeds fully faithfully into the category Mod${}^I(G)$ of smooth $k$-representations of $G$ generated by their pro-$p$-Iwahori fixed vectors. If the characteristic of $k$ is different …
We introduce an affine Schur algebra via the affine Hecke algebra associated to Weyl group of affine type C. We establish multiplication formulas on the affine Hecke algebra and affine Schur algebra. Then we construct monomial bases and canonical bases for the affine Schur algebra. The multiplication formula allows us to establish a stabilization property of the family of affine Schur algebras that leads to the modified version of an algebra ${\mathbf K}^{\mathfrak c}_n$. We show that ${\mathbf K}^{\mathfrak c}_n$ is a coideal subalgebra of quantum affine algebra ${\bf U}(\hat{\mathfrak{gl}}_n…
Affine matrix-ball construction (abbreviated AMBC) was developed by Chmutov, Lewis, Pylyavskyy, and Yudovina as an affine generalization of Robinson-Schensted correspondence. We show that AMBC gives a simple way to compute a distinguished (or Duflo) involution in each Kazhdan-Lusztig cell of affine symmetric groups. We then use AMBC to give the first known canonical presentation for the asymptotic Hecke algebras of extended affine symmetric groups. As an application, we show that AMBC gives a conceptual way to compute Lusztig-Vogan bijection. For the latter we build upon prior works of Achar a…
The determination of the density functions for products of random elements from specified classes of matrices is a basic problem in random matrix theory and is also of interest in theoretical physics. For connected simple Lie groups of $2\times 2$ matrices and conjugacy and spherical classes a complete solution is given here. The problem/solution can be re-stated in terms of the structure of certain Hecke algebras attached to groups of $2\times 2$ matrices.
Let H = H (R,q) be an affine Hecke algebra with complex, possibly unequal parameters q, which are not roots of unity. We compute the Hochschild and the cyclic homology of H. It turns out that these are independent of q and that they admit an easy description in terms of the extended quotient of a torus by a Weyl group, both of which are canonically associated to the root datum R. For q positive we also prove that the representations of the family of algebras H (R,q^ε) come in families which depend analytically on the complex number ε. Analogous results are obtained for graded Hecke algebras an…
The spin analogues of several classical concepts and results for Hecke algebras are established. A Frobenius type formula is obtained for irreducible characters of the Hecke-Clifford algebra. A precise characterization of the trace functions allows us to define the character table for the algebra. The algebra is endowed with a canonical symmetrizing trace form, with respect to which the spin generic degrees are formulated and shown to coincide with the spin fake degrees. We further provide a characterization of the trace functions and the symmetrizing trace form on the spin Hecke algebra which…
This paper classifies and constructs explicitly all the irreducible representations of affine Hecke algebras of rank two root systems. The methods used to obtain this classification are primarily combinatorial and are, for the most part, an application of the methods used in a recent preprint of Ram. A special effort has been made special effort to describe how the classification here relates to the classifications by Langlands parameters (coming from p-adic group theory) and by indexing triples (coming from a q-analogue of the Springer correspondence). The examples here illustrate and clarify…
Let ${\mathcal H}_{q}(d)$ be the Iwahori-Hecke algebra for the symmetric group, where $q$ is a primitive $l$th root of unity. In this paper we develop a theory of support varieties which detects natural homological properties such as the complexity of modules. The theory the authors develop has a canonical description in an affine space where computations are tractable. The ideas involve the interplay with the computation of the cohomology ring due to Benson, Erdmann and Mikaelian, the theory of vertices due to Dipper and Du, and branching results for cohomology by Hemmer and Nakano. Calculati…
We develop an inductive approach to the representation theory of the Yokonuma-Hecke algebra ${\rm Y}_{d,n}(q)$, based on the study of the spectrum of its Jucys-Murphy elements which are defined here. We give explicit formulas for the irreducible representations of ${\rm Y}_{d,n}(q)$ in terms of standard $d$-tableaux; we then use them to obtain a semisimplicity criterion. Finally, we prove the existence of a canonical symmetrising form on ${\rm Y}_{d,n}(q)$ and calculate the Schur elements with respect to that form.
Chinta and Gunnells introduced a rather intricate multi-parameter Weyl group action on rational functions on a torus, which, when the parameters are specialized to certain Gauss sums, describes the functional equations of Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series associated to metaplectic (n-fold) covers of algebraic groups. In subsequent joint work with Puskas, they extended this action to a "metaplectic" representation of the equal parameter affine Hecke algebra, which allowed them to obtain explicit formulas for the p-parts of these Dirichlet series. They have also verified by a computer check t…
This paper makes precise the close connection between the affine Hecke algebra, the path model, and the theory of crystals. Section 2 is a basic pictorial exposition of Weyl groups and affine Weyl groups and Section 5 is an exposition of the theory of (a) symmetric functions, (b) crystals and (c) the path model. Sections 3 and 4 give an exposition of the affine Hecke algebra and recent results regarding the combinatorics of spherical functions on p-adic groups (Hall-Littlewood polynomials). The $q$-analogue of the theory of crystals developed in Section 4 specializes to the path model version …
