Null flows, positive flows and the structure of stationary symmetric stable processes

This paper elucidates the connection between stationary symmetric alpha-stable processes with 0<alpha<2 and nonsingular flows on measure spaces by describing a new and unique decomposition of stationary stable processes into those corresponding to positive flows and those corresponding to null flows. We show that a necessary and sufficient for a stationary stable process to be ergodic is that its positive component vanishes.

Ergodic properties of sum- and max-stable stationary random fields via null and positive group actions

We establish characterization results for the ergodicity of stationary symmetric $α$-stable (S$α$S) and $α$-Frechet random fields. We show that the result of Samorodnitsky [Ann. Probab. 33 (2005) 1782-1803] remains valid in the multiparameter setting, that is, a stationary S$α$S ($0<α<2$) random field is ergodic (or, equivalently, weakly mixing) if and only if it is generated by a null group action. We consider a one-dimensional symmetric simple exclusion process in contact with slowed reservoirs: at the left (resp. right) boundary, particles are either created or removed at rates given by $α/n$ or $(1-α)/n$ (resp. $β/n$ or $(1-β)/n$) where $α, β>0$ and $n$ is a scaling parameter. Stationary Symmetric alpha-Stable Discrete Parameter Random Fields

We establish a connection between the structure of a stationary symmetric alpha-stable random field (0 < alpha < 2) and ergodic theory of non-singular group actions, elaborating on a previous work by Rosinski (2000). With the help of this connection, we study the extreme values of the field over increasing boxes. Depending on the ergodic theoretical and group theoretical structures of the underlying action, we observe different kinds of asymptotic behavior of this sequence of extreme values.

Invariance Principle for symmetric Diffusions in a degenerate and unbounded stationary and ergodic Random Medium

We study a symmetric diffusion $X$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$ in divergence form in a stationary and ergodic environment, with measurable unbounded and degenerate coefficients $a^ω$. The diffusion is formally associated with $L^ωu = \nabla\cdot(a^ω\nabla u)$, and we make sense of it through Dirichlet forms theory. We prove for $X$ a quenched invariance principle, under some moment conditions on the environment; the key tool is the sublinearity of the corrector obtained by Moser's iteration scheme.

Maxima of long memory stationary symmetric $α$-stable processes, and self-similar processes with stationary max-increments

We derive a functional limit theorem for the partial maxima process based on a long memory stationary $α$-stable process. The length of memory in the stable process is parameterized by a certain ergodic-theoretical parameter in an integral representation of the process. Ergodic decompositions of stationary max-stable processes in terms of their spectral functions

We revisit conservative/dissipative and positive/null decompositions of stationary max-stable processes. Originally, both decompositions were defined in an abstract way based on the underlying non-singular flow representation. Quantitative ergodicity for the symmetric exclusion process with stationary initial data

We consider the symmetric exclusion process on the $d$-dimensional lattice with translational invariant and ergodic initial data. It is then known that as $t$ diverges the distribution of the process at time $t$ converges to a Bernoulli product measure. Assuming a summable decay of correlations of the initial data, we prove a quantitative version of this convergence by obtaining an explicit bound on the Ornstein $\bar d$-distance. The proof is based on the analysis of a two species exclusion process with annihilation.

Homogenization of symmetric stable-like processes in stationary ergodic medium

This paper studies homogenization of symmetric non-local Dirichlet forms with $α$-stable-like jumping kernels in one-parameter stationary ergodic environment. Under suitable conditions, we establish homogenization results and identify the limiting effective Dirichlet forms explicitly. The coefficients of the jumping kernels of Dirichlet forms and symmetrizing measures are allowed to be degenerate and unbounded; and the coefficients in the effective Dirichlet forms can be degenerate.

A large sample test for the length of memory of stationary symmetric stable random fields via nonsingular $\mathbb{Z}^d$-actions

Based on the ratio of two block maxima, we propose a large sample test for the length of memory of a stationary symmetric $α$-stable discrete parameter random field. We show that the power function converges to one as the sample-size increases to infinity under various classes of alternatives having longer memory in the sense of Samorodnitsky(2004). Ergodic theory of nonsingular $\mathbb{Z}^d$-actions play a very important role in the design and analysis of our large sample test.
