The paper studies the existence of minimizers for Rayleigh quotients $μ_Ω=\inf\frac{\int_Ω|\nabla u|^2}{\int_ΩV{|u|^2}} $, where $Ω$ is a domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, and $V$ is a nonzero nonnegative function that may have singularities on $\partialΩ$. As a model for our results one can take $Ω$ to be a Lipschitz cone and $V$ to be the Hardy potential $V(x)=\frac{1}{|x|^2} $.
We study linear and non-linear equations related to the fractional Hardy--Sobolev inequality. We prove nondegeneracy of ground state solutions to the basic equation and investigate existence and qualitative properties, including symmetry of solutions to some perturbed equations.
Let $ (M,g) $ be a smooth compact Riemannian manifold of dimension $ N \geq 3 $. Given $p_0 \in M$, $λ\in \mathcal{R}$ and $σ\in (0,2]$, we study existence and non existence of minimizers of the following quotient: \begin{equation}\label{Paper Equation} μ_{λ,σ}=\inf_{u \in H^1(M)\setminus \lbrace0\rbrace} \frac{\displaystyle\int_M |\nabla u|^2 dv_g -λ\int_M u^2 dv_g }{\biggl(\displaystyle\int_M ρ^{-σ} |u|^{2^*(σ)} dv_g\biggl)^{2/2^*(σ)}}, \end{equation} where $ρ(.):=dist(p_0,.)$ denoted the geodesic distance from $p \in M$ to $p_0$. In particular for $σ=2$, we provide sufficient and necessary …
Let $(M,g)$ be a smooth compact Riemannian manifold of dimension $N\geq 3$ and we let $Σ$ to be a closed submanifold of dimension $1 \leq k \leq N-2. $ In this paper we study existence and non-existence of minimizers of Hardy inequality with weight function singular on $Σ$ within the framework of Brezis-Marcus-Shafrir. In particular we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of minimizers.
We obtain existence, multiplicity, and bifurcation results for the Brezis-Nirenberg problem for the fractional $p$\nobreakdash-Laplacian operator, involving critical Hardy-Sobolev exponents. Our results are mainly extend results in the literature for $α=0$. In the absence of an explicit formula for a minimizer in the fractional Hardy-Sobolev inequality $α\not= 0$, we get around this difficulty by working with certain asymptotic estimates for minimizers recently obtained in \cite{MM}.
Let $p \in (1,\infty)$ and $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ be a domain. Let $ A: =(a_{ij}) \in L^{\infty}_{\text{loc}}(Ω; \mathbb{R}^{N\times N})$ be a symmetric and locally uniformly positive definite matrix. Set $|ξ|_A^2:= \displaystyle \sum_{i,j=1}^N a_{ij}(x) ξ_i ξ_j$, $ξ\in \mathbb{R}^N$, and let $V$ be a given potential in a certain local Morrey space. We assume that the energy functional $$Q_{p,A,V}(ϕ):=\displaystyle \int_Ω [|\nabla ϕ|_A^p + V|ϕ|^p] {\rm dx} $$ is nonnegative in $W^{1,p}(Ω)\cap C_c(Ω)$. We introduce a generalized notion of $Q_{p,A,V}$-capacity and characterize the space of all …
The paper deals with natural generalizations of the Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequality and some related questions, such as the optimality and stability of such inequalities, the existence of minimizers of the associated variational problem, and the natural energy space associated with the given functional.
We establish the existence of ground states on Euclidean space for the Laplace operator involving the Hardy type potential. This gives rise to the existence of the principal eigenfunctions for the Laplace operator involving weighted Hardy potentials. We also obtain a higher integrability property for the principal eigenfunction. This is used to examine the behaviour of the principal eigenfunction around 0.
We prove a logarithmic convexity result for exponentially weighted $L^2$-norms of solutions to electromagnetic Schrödinger equation, without needing to assume smallness of the magnetic potential. As a consequence, we can prove a unique continuation result in the style of the Hardy uncertainty principle, which generalizes the analogous theorems which have been recently proved by Escauriaza, Kenig, Ponce and Vega.
We proved some optimal Hardy inequalities in RNwhich is closely related to multipolar Schrödinger operators with mean-value type potentials, these sharp inequalities imply some multipolar type Heisenberg inequalities. We also obtained someimproved multipolar Hardy inequalities on bounded domains, moreover, we got the range of the best Hardy constant for a specific Hardy inequality.
We consider the $L^p$ Hardy inequality involving the distance to the boundary of a domain in the $n$-dimensional Euclidean space with nonempty compact boundary. We extend the validity of known existence and non-existence results, as well as the appropriate tight decay estimates for the corresponding minimizers, from the case of domains of class $C^2$ to the case of domains of class $C^{1,γ}$ with $γ\in (0,1]$. We consider both bounded and exterior domains. The upper and lower estimates for the minimizers in the case of exterior domains and the corresponding related non-existence result seem to…
Let $Ø$ be a smooth bounded domain in $\R^N$ with $N\ge 1$. In this paper we study the Hardy-Poincaré inequality with weight function singular at the boundary of $Ø$. In particular we provide sufficient and necessary conditions on the existence of minimizers.
We consider the minimizing problem for the energy functional with prescribed mass constraint related to the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with periodic potentials. Using the concentration-compactness principle, we show a complete classification for the existence and non-existence of minimizers for the problem. In the mass-critical case, under a suitable assumption of the potential, we give a detailed description of blow-up behavior of minimizers once the mass tends to a critical value.
In this paper, we study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$ -Δu+(V(x)- \fracρ{(|x|^2+1)})u=f(x,u) $$ on the lattice graph $\mathbb{Z}^N$ with $N\geq 3$, where $V$ is a bounded periodic potential and $0$ lies in a spectral gap of the Schrödinger operator $-Δ+V$. Under some assumptions on the nonlinearity $f$, we prove the existence and asymptotic behavior of ground state solutions with small $ρ\geq 0$ by the generalized linking theorem.
This paper is motivated by the study of a version of the so-called Schrodinger-Poisson-Slater problem: $$ - Δu + ωu + λ(u^2 \star \frac{1}{|x|}) u=|u|^{p-2}u,$$ where $u \in H^1(\R^3)$. We are concerned mostly with $p \in (2,3)$. The behavior of radial minimizers motivates the study of the static case $ω=0$. Among other things, we obtain a general lower bound for the Coulomb energy, that could be useful in other frameworks. The radial and nonradial cases turn out to yield essentially different situations.
We rectify an incorrect citation of the reference in obtaining the Gaussian upper bound for heat kernels of the Schrödinger type operators $(-Δ)^2+V^2$.
For a given subcritical discrete Schrödinger operator $H$ on a weighted infinite graph $X$, we construct a Hardy-weight $w$ which is optimal in the following sense. The operator $H - λw$ is subcritical in $X$ for all $λ< 1$, null-critical in $X$ for $λ= 1$, and supercritical near any neighborhood of infinity in $X$ for any $λ> 1$. Our results rely on a criticality theory for Schrödinger operators on general weighted graphs.
In this paper we consider the linear Schrodinger equation (LSE) on a regular tree with the last generation of edges of infinite length and analyze some unique continuation properties. The first part of the paper deals with the LSE on the real line with a piece-wise constant coefficient and uses this result in the context of regular trees. The second part treats the case of a LSE with a real potential in the framework of a star-shaped graph.
In this paper, we study the existence of minimizers for a class of constrained minimization problems derived from the Schrödinger-Poisson equations: $$-Δu+V(x)u+(|x|^{-1}*u^2)u-|u|^\frac{4}{3}u=λu,~~x\in\R^3$$ on the $L^2$-spheres $\widetilde{S}(c)=\{u\in H^1(\R^3)|~\int_{\R^3}V(x)u^2dx<+\infty,~|u|_2^2=c>0\}$. If $V(x)\equiv0$, then by a different method from Jeanjean and Luo [Z. Angrew. Math. Phys. 64 (2013), 937-954], we show that there is no minimizer for all $c>0$; If $0\leq V(x)\in L^{\infty}_{loc}(\R^3)$ and $\lim\limits_{|x|\rightarrow+\infty}V(x)=+\infty$, then a minimizer exists if a…
We obtain Sobolev inequalities for the Schrodinger operator -Δ-V, where V has critical behaviour V(x)=((N-2)/2)^2|x|^{-2} near the origin. We apply these inequalities to obtain pointwise estimates on the associated heat kernel, improving upon earlier results.
In this paper, we show the existence and non-existence of minimizers of the following minimization problems which include an open problem mentioned by Horiuchi and Kumlin in 2012: \begin{align*} G_a := \inf_{u \in W_0^{1,N}(Ω) \setminus \{ 0\} } \dfrac{\int_Ω |\nabla u |^{N} \,dx}{\left( \int_Ω |u|^{q} f_{a,β}(x) dx \right)^{\frac{N}{q}}}, \,\text{where} \,\,f_{a, β}(x):=|x|^{-N}\left( \log \frac{aR}{|x|} \right)^{-β}. \end{align*} First, we give an answer to the open problem when $Ω=B_R(0)$. Next, we investigate the minimization problems on general bounded domains. In this case, the results d…
In this paper we establish the product Hardy spaces associated with the Bessel Schrödinger operator introduced by Muckenhoupt and Stein, and provide equivalent characterizations in terms of the Bessel Riesz transforms, non-tangential and radial maximal functions, and Littlewood--Paley theory, which are consistent with the classical product Hardy space theory developed by Chang and Fefferman. Moreover, in this specific setting, we also provide another characterization via the Telyakovskií transform, which further implies that the product Hardy space associated with this Bessel Schrödinger opera…
Let $Ω$ be a smooth bounded domain in $\mahbb R^N$ with $N\ge 3$ and let $Σ_k$ be a closed smooth submanifold of $δΩ$ of dimension $1\le k\le N-2$. In this paper we study the weighted Hardy inequality with weight function singular on $Σ_k$. In particular we provide sufficient and necessary conditions for existence of minimizers.
We consider the Hardy constant associated with a domain in the $n$-dimensional Euclidean space and we study its variation upon perturbation of the domain. We prove a Fréchet differentiability result and establish a Hadamard-type formula for the corresponding derivatives. We also prove a stability result for the minimizers of the Hardy quotient. Finally, we prove stability estimates in terms of the Lebesgue measure of the symmetric difference of domains.
The Hardy-Sobolev trace inequality can be obtained via Harmonic extensions on the half-space of the Stein and Weiss weighted Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. In this paper we consider a bounded domain and study the influence of the boundary mean curvature in the Hardy-Sobolev trace inequality on the underlying domain. We prove existence of minimizers when the mean curvature is negative at the singular point of the Hardy potential.
An inequality of Hardy type is established for quadratic forms involving Dirac operator and a weight $r^{-b}$ for functions in $\R^n$. The exact Hardy constant $c_b=c_b(n)$ is found and generalized minimizers are given. The constant $c_b$ vanishes on a countable set of $b$, which extends the known case $n=2$, $b=0$ which corresponds to the trivial Hardy inequality in $\R^2$. Analogous inequalities are proved in the case $c_b=0$ under constraints and, with error terms, for a bounded domain.
We look for solutions to a fractional Schrödinger equation of the following form $$ (-Δ)^{α/ 2} u + \left( V(x) - \fracμ{|x|^α} \right) u = f(x,u)-K(x)|u|^{q-2}u\hbox{ on }\mathbb{R}^N \setminus \{0\}, $$ where $V$ is bounded and close-to-periodic potential and $- \fracμ{|x|^α}$ is a Hardy-type potential. We assume that $V$ is positive and $f$ has the subcritical growth but not higher than $|u|^{q-2}u$. If $μ$ is positive and small enough we find a ground state solution, i.e. a critical point of the energy being minimizer on the Nehari manifold. If $μ$ is negative we show that there is no grou…
Let $L= -Δ_{\mathbb{H}^n}+V$ be a Schrödinger operator on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n$, where $Δ_{\mathbb{H}^n}$ is the sub-Laplacian and the nonnegative potential $V$ belongs to the reverse Hölder class $B_{\frac{Q}{2}}$ and $Q$ is the homogeneous dimension of $\mathbb{H}^n$. The Riesz transforms associated with the Schrödinger operator $L$ are bounded from $L^1(\mathbb{H}^n)$ to $L^{1,\infty}(\mathbb{H}^n)$. The $L^1$ integrability of the Riesz transforms associated with $L$ characterizes a certain Hardy type space denoted by $H^1_L(\mathbb{H}^n)$ which is larger than the usual Hardy …
We consider linear and non-linear boundary value problems associated to the fractional Hardy-Schrödinger operator $ L_{γ,α}: = ({-}{ Δ})^{\fracα{2}}- \fracγ{|x|^α}$ on domains of $\mathbb{R}^n$ containing the singularity $0$, where $0<α<2$ and $ 0 \le γ< γ_H(α)$, the latter being the best constant in the fractional Hardy inequality on $\mathbb{R}^n$. We tackle the existence of least-energy solutions for the borderline boundary value problem $(L_{γ,α}-λI)u= {\frac{u^{2^\star_α(s)-1}}{|x|^s}}$ on $Ω$, where $0\leq s <α<n$ and $ 2^\star_α(s)={\frac{2(n-s)}{n-α}}$ is the critical fractional Sobole…
Suppose $L=-Δ+V$ is a Schrödinger operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$ with a potential $V$ belonging to certain reverse Hölder class $RH_σ$ with $σ\geq n/2$. The main aim of this paper is to provide necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of $T1$ criteria for a generalised Calderón--Zygmund type operator with respect to $L$ to be bounded on Hardy spaces $H^p_L(\mathbb{R}^n)$ and on BMO type spaces BMO$_L^α(\mathbb{R}^n)$ associated with $L$. As applications, we prove the boundedness for several singular integral operators associated to $L$. Our approach is flexible enough to prove the boundedness …
We prove a Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequality for arbitrary domains Ω\subset\R^N with a constant depending only on the dimension N\geq 3. In particular, for convex domains this settles a conjecture by Filippas, Maz'ya and Tertikas. As an application we derive Hardy-Lieb-Thirring inequalities for eigenvalues of Schrödinger operators on domains.
We consider the existence and the non-existence of a minimizer of the following minimization problems associated with an improved Hardy-Sobolev type inequality introduced by Ioku. $$ I_a := \inf_{u \in W_0^{1,p}(B_R ) \setminus \{ 0\} } \frac{\int_{B_R} |\nabla u |^{p} \,dx}{\left( \int_{B_R} |u|^{p^*(s)} V_a(x) \,dx \right)^{\frac{p}{p^*(s)}}}, \,\,\text{where}\,\, V_a (x) =\frac{1}{|x|^s \left( 1- a \,\left( \frac{|x|}{R} \right)^{\frac{N-p}{p-1}} \right)^β} \ge \frac{1}{|x|^s}. $$ Only for radial functions, the minimization problem $I_a$ is equivalent to it associated with the classical Har…
We consider the 3d cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with a strong 2d harmonic potential. The model is physically relevant to observe the lower-dimensional dynamics of the Bose-Einstein condensate, but its ground state cannot be constructed by the standard method due to its supercritical nature. In Bellazzini-Boussaïd-Jeanjean-Visciglia \cite{BBJV}, the authors constructed a proper ground state introducing a constrained energy minimization problem. In this paper, we further investigate the properties of the ground state. First, we show that as the partial confinement is increased, the…
We present the best constant and the existence of extremal functions for an Improved Hardy-Sobolev inequality. We prove that, under a proper transformation, this inequality is equivalent to the Sobolev inequality in $\mathbb{R}^N$. We also discuss the connection of the related functional spaces and as a result we obtain some Caffarelli - Kohn - Nirenberg inequalities. Our starting point is the existence of a minimizer for the Bliss' inequality and the indirect dependence of the Hardy inequality at the origin.
We investigate the Hardy-Schrödinger operator $L_γ=-Δ-\fracγ{|x|^2}$ on domains $Ω\subset\rn$, whose boundary contain the singularity $0$. The situation is quite different from the well-studied case when $0$ is in the interior of $Ω$. For one, if $0\inΩ$, then $L_γ$ is positive if and only if $γ<\frac{(n-2)^2}{4}$, while if $0\in\partialΩ$ the operator $L_γ$ could be positive for larger value of $γ$, potentially reaching the maximal constant $\frac{n^2}{4}$ on convex domains. We prove optimal regularity and a Hopf-type Lemma for variational solutions of corresponding linear Dirichlet boundary …
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ be a smooth bounded domain having zero in its interior $0 \in Ω.$ We fix $0 < α\le 2$ and $0 \le s <α.$ We investigate a sufficient condition for the existence of a positive solution for the following perturbed problem associated with the Hardy-Schrödinger operator $ L_{γ,α,}: = ({-}{ Δ})^{\fracα{2}}- \fracγ{|x|^α}$ on $Ω:$ \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{rl} \displaystyle ({-}{ Δ})^{\fracα{2}}u- γ\frac{u}{|x|^α} - λu= {\frac{u^{2_α^*(s)-1}}{|x|^s}}+ h(x) u^{q-1} & \text{in } Ω\\ u=0 \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,…
We study the Cauchy problem for nonlinear Schrödinger equations with attractive inverse-power potentials. By using variational arguments, we first determine a sharp threshold of global well-posedness and blow-up for the equation in the mass-supercritical case. We next study the existence and non-existence of minimizers for the energy functional with prescribed mass constraint. In the mass-critical case, we also study the blow-up behavior of minimizers when the mass tends to a critical value.
We consider the Hardy-Schrödinger operator $ -Δ_{\mathbb{B}^n}-γ{V_2}$ on the Poincaré ball model of the Hyperbolic space ${\mathbb{B}^n}$ ($n \geq 3$). Here $V_2$ is a well chosen radially symmetric potential, which behaves like the Hardy potential around its singularity at $0$, i.e., $V_2(r)\sim \frac{1}{r^2}$. Just like in the Euclidean setting, the operator $ -Δ_{\mathbb{B}^n}-γ{V_2}$ is positive definite whenever $γ<\frac{(n-2)^2}{4}$, in which case we exhibit explicit solutions for the equation $$-Δ_{\mathbb{B}^n}u-γ{V_2}u=V_{2^*(s)}u^{2^*(s)-1}\quad{\text{ in }}\mathbb{B}^n,$$ where $0\…
Consider the Bessel operator with a potential on L^2((0,infty), x^a dx), namely Lf(x) = -f"(x) - a/x f'(x) + V(x)f(x). We assume that a>0 and V\in L^1_{loc}((0,infty), x^a dx) is a non-negative function. By definition, a function f\in L^1((0,infty), x^a dx) belongs to the Hardy space H^1(L) if sup_{t>0} |e^{-tL} f| \in L^1((0,infty), x^a dx). Under certain assumptions on V we characterize the space H^1(L) in terms of atomic decompositions of local type. In the second part we prove that this characterization can be applied to L for a \in (0,1) with no additional assumptions on the potential V.
On a smooth bounded domain Ω\subset R^N we consider the Schrödinger operators -Δ-V, with V being either the critical borderline potential V(x)=(N-2)^2/4 |x|^{-2} or V(x)=(1/4) dist (x,\partialΩ)^{-2}, under Dirichlet boundary conditions. In this work we obtain sharp two-sided estimates on the corresponding heat kernels. To this end we transform the Scrödinger operators into suitable degenerate operators, for which we prove a new parabolic Harnack inequality up to the boundary. To derive the Harnack inequality we have established a serier of new inequalities such as improved Hardy, logarithmic …
Let $Ω$ be a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$ with $C^2$ boundary and let $K\subset\partialΩ$ be either a $C^2$ submanifold of the boundary of codimension $k<N$ or a point. In this article we study various problems related to the Schrödinger operator $L_μ =-Δ- μd_K^{-2}$ where $d_K$ denotes the distance to $K$ and $μ\leq k^2/4$. We establish parabolic boundary Harnack inequalities as well as related two-sided heat kernel and Green function estimates. We construct the associated Martin kernel and prove existence and uniqueness for the corresponding boundary value problem with data given by meas…
In this expository paper, we consider the Hardy-Schrödinger operator $-Δ-γ/|x|^2$ on a smooth domain Ωof R^n with 0\in\barΩ, and describe how the location of the singularity 0, be it in the interior of Ωor on its boundary, affects its analytical properties. We compare the two settings by considering the optimal Hardy, Sobolev, and the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. The latter rewrites: $C(\int_Ω\frac{u^{p}}{|x|^s}dx)^{\frac{2}{p}}\leq \int_Ω |\nabla u|^2dx-γ\int_Ω\frac{u^2}{|x|^2}dx$ for all $u\in H^1_0(Ω)$, where γ<n^2/4, s\in [0,2) and p:=2(n-s)/(n-2). We address questions regarding…
For the one-dimensional mass-critical/supercritical pseudo-relativistic nonlinear Schrodinger equation, a stationary solution can be constructed as an energy minimizer under an additional kinetic energy constraint and the set of energy minimizers is orbitally stable in \cite{BGV}. In this study, we proved the local uniqueness and established the orbital stability of the solitary wave by improving that of the energy minimizer set. A key aspect thereof is the reformulation of the variational problem in the non-relativistic regime, which we consider to be more natural because the proof extensivel…
We prove non-explosion results for Schrödinger perturbations of symmetric transition densities and Hardy inequalities for their quadratic forms by using explicit supermedian functions of their semigroups.
