Lipschitz retractions in Hadamard spaces via gradient flow semigroups

Let $X(n),$ for $n\in\mathbb{N},$ be the set of all subsets of a metric space $(X,d)$ of cardinality at most $n.$ The set $X(n)$ equipped with the Hausdorff metric is called a finite subset space. In this paper we are concerned with the existence of Lipschitz retractions $r: X(n)\to X(n-1)$ for $n\ge2.$ It is known that such retractions do not exist if $X$ is the one-dimensional sphere. Growth rate of Lipschitz constants for retractions between finite subset spaces

For any metric space $X$, finite subset spaces of $X$ provide a sequence of isometric embeddings $X=X(1)\subset X(2)\subset\cdots$. The existence of Lipschitz retractions $r_n\colon X(n)\to X(n-1)$ depends on the geometry of $X$ in a subtle way. Such retractions are known to exist when $X$ is an Hadamard space or a finite-dimensional normed space. But even in these cases it was unknown whether the sequence $\{r_n\}$ can be uniformly Lipschitz. We give a negative answer by proving that $\operatorname{Lip}(r_n)$ must grow with $n$ when $X$ is a normed space or an Hadamard space.

The Cartan-Hadamard Theorem for Metric Spaces with Local Geodesic Bicombings

Local-to-global principles are spread all-around in mathematics. The classical Cartan-Hadamard Theorem from Riemannian geometry was generalized by W. Exponential and Gaussian concentration of 1-Lipschitz maps

In this paper, we prove an exponential and Ganssian concentration inequality for 1-Lipschitz maps from mm-spaces to Hadamard manifolds. In particular, we give a complete answer to a question by M. Gromov.

Nagata dimension, quasisymmetric embeddings, and Lipschitz extensions

We discuss a variation of Gromov's notion of asymptotic dimension that was introduced and named Nagata dimension by Assouad. The Nagata dimension turns out to be a quasisymmetry invariant of metric spaces. The class of metric spaces with finite Nagata dimension includes in particular all doubling spaces, metric trees, euclidean buildings, and homogeneous or pinched negatively curved Hadamard manifolds. Higher order Dehn functions for horospheres in products of Hadamard spaces

Let $X$ be a product of $r$ locally compact Hadamard spaces. In this note we prove that the horospheres in $X$ centered at regular boundary points of $X$ are Lipschitz-$(r-2)$-connected. Using the filling construction by R.~Young in \cite{MR3268779} this gives sharp bounds on higher order Dehn functions for such horospheres. Moreover, if $Γ\subset\Is(X)$ is a lattice acting cocompactly on $X$ minus a union of disjoint horoballs, we get a sharp bound on higher order Dehn functions for $Γ$. Harmonic quasi-isometric maps into Gromov hyperbolic ${\rm CAT}(0)$-spaces

We show that for every quasi-isometric map from a Hadamard manifold of pinched negative curvature to a locally compact, Gromov hyperbolic, ${\rm CAT}(0)$-space there exists an energy minimizing harmonic map at finite distance.
