The L-functions of twisted Witt extensions

The L-function of a non-degenerate twisted Witt extension is proved to be a polynomial. Its Newton polygon is proved to lie above the Hodge polygon of that extension. And the Newton polygons of the Gauss-Heilbronn sums are explicitly determined, generalizing the Stickelberger theorem.

Newton slopes for twisted Artin--Schreier--Witt Towers

We fix a monic polynomial $f(x) \in \mathbb F_q[x]$ over a finite field of characteristic $p$ of degree relatively prime to $p$. Let $a\mapsto ω(a)$ be the Teichmüller lift of $\mathbb F_q$, and let $χ:\mathbb{Z}\to \mathbb C_p^\times$ be a finite character of $\mathbb Z_p$. The $L$-function associated to the polynomial $f$ and the so-called twisted character $ω^u\times χ$ is denoted by $L_f(ω^u,χ,s)$. We prove that, when the conductor of the character is large enough, the $p$-adic Newton slopes of this $L$-function form arithmetic progressions.

Schmid's Formula for Higher Local Fields

In local class field theory, the Schmid-Witt symbol encodes interesting data about the ramification theory of $p$-extensi-ons of $K$ and can, for example, be used to compute the higher ramification groups of such extensions. On cohomology of Witt vectors of algebraic integers and a conjecture of Hesselholt

Let $K$ be a complete discrete valued field of characteristic zero with residue field $k_K$ of characteristic $p > 0$. Let $L/K$ be a finite Galois extension with the Galois group $G$ and suppose that the induced extension of residue fields $k_L/k_K$ is separable. In his paper, Hesselholt conjectured that $H^1(G,W(\sO_L))$ is zero, where $\sO_L$ is the ring of integers of $L$ and $W(\sO_L)$ is the Witt ring of $\sO_L$ w.r.t. the prime $p$. He partially proved this conjecture for a large class of extensions. In this paper, we prove Hesselholt's conjecture for all Galois extensions.

Twisted doubling integrals for Brylinski-Deligne extensions of classical groups

We explain how to develop the twisted doubling integrals for Brylinski-Deligne extensions of connected classical groups. This gives a family of global integrals which represent Euler products for this class of non-linear extensions.

An embedding problem of Noetherian rings into the Witt vectors

The aim of this article is to prove some results on the existence of an integral extension domain of a complete local Noetherian domain in mixed characteristic $p>0$ having certain distinguished properties with respect to the Frobenius map. We prove the main results by constructing required extension domains via Witt vectors and the method of maximal étale extensions. It is worth remarking that the resulting algebras have deep connections with the homological conjectures and the rings in $p$-adic Hodge theory.

Remark on equicharacteristic analogue of Hesselholt's conjecture on cohomology of Witt vectors

Let $L/K$ be a finite Galois extension of complete discrete valued fields of characteristic $p$. Assume that the induced residue field extension $k_L/k_K$ is separable. For an integer $n\geq 0$, let $W_n(\sO_L)$ denote the ring of Witt vectors of length $n$ with coefficients in $\sO_L$. We show that the proabelian group ${H^1(G,W_n(\sO_L))}_{n\in \N}$ is zero. This is an equicharacteristic analogue of Hesselholt's conjecture.

Almost purity and overconvergent Witt vectors

In a previous paper, we stated a general almost purity theorem in the style of Faltings: if R is a ring for which the Frobenius maps on finite p-typical Witt vectors over R are surjective, then the integral closure of R in a finite étale extension of R[p^{-1}] is "almost" finite étale over R.
