We provide a measure based topology for certain unions of C2 rectifiable submanifolds of mixed dimensions in Rn. In this topology lower dimensional sets remain in the limit as measures when higher dimensional sets collapse down to them. For example a decreasing sequence of spheres may have a limit consisting of just a point. The n-1 dimensional space of outward pointing vectors can be used for such a measure. It represents all C2 rectifiable sets of codimension at least one of Rn as rectifiable sets in RnXSn-1 with n-1 dimensional Hausdorff measure. When viewed as (n-1)-rectifiable varifolds or currents in RnXSn-1 they come equipped with compactness theorems. The projection of their limits to Rn recovers the rectifiable sets of mixed dimensions giving the limits for the desired topology on subsets of Rn. Both varifold and current compactness are required as there are sequences, such as honeycombs, that converge as varifolds but not as currents. Conversely sequences such as lifts of polyhedral approximations converge as currents but not as varifolds.
We first proved a compactness theorem of the Kähler metrics, which confirms a prediction of Chen. Then we prove several eigenvalue estimates along the Calabi flow. Combining the compactness theorem and these eigenvalue estimates, we generalize the method developed by Chen-Li-Wang to prove the small energy theorems of the Calabi flow.
We study the behavior of the spectrum of the Dirac operator on collapsing S^1-bundles. Convergent eigenvalues will exist if and only if the spin structure is projectable.
We study the line bundle mean curvature flow on Kähler surfaces under the hypercritical phase and a certain semipositivity condition. We naturally encounter such a condition when considering the blowup of Kähler surfaces. We show that the flow converges smoothly to a singular solution to the deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills equation away from a finite number of curves of negative self-intersection on the surface. As an application, we obtain a lower bound of a Kempf-Ness type functional on the space of potential functions satisfying the hypercritical phase condition.
In this paper we study collapsing sequences M_{i}-> X of Riemannian manifolds with curvature bounded or bounded away from a controlled subset. We introduce a structure over X which in an appropriate sense is dual to the N-structure of Cheeger, Fukaya and Gromov. As opposed to the N-structure, which live over the M_{i} themselves, this structure lives over X and allows for a convenient notion of global convergence as well as the appropriate background structure for doing analysis on X. This structure is new even in the case of uniformly bounded curvature and as an application we give a generali…
We compute the spectrum of the Dirac operator on 3-dimensional Heisenberg manifolds. The behavior under collapse to the 2-torus is studied. Depending on the spin structure either all eigenvalues tend to $\pm\infty$ or there are eigenvalues converging to those of the torus. This is shown to be true in general for collapsing circle bundles with totally geodesic fibers. Using the Hopf fibration we use this fact to compute the Dirac eigenvalues on complex projective space including the multiplicities. Finally, we show that there are 1-parameter families of Riemannian nilmanifolds such that the Lap…
The goal of this work is to establish a proof of the Gromov convergence in Hoelder spaces for curves with a totally real boundary condition following the original geometric idea of Gromov. We use a local reflection principle in neighbourhoods of the totally real submanifold as developed by Ivashkovich and Shevchishin and existence results for special connections on spaces of jet bundles to obtain higher regularity and Gromov-Schwarz estimates along the boundary.
This manuscript studies manifolds-with-boundary collapsing in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology. The main aim is an understanding of the relationship of the topology and geometry of a limiting sequence of manifolds-with-boundary to that of a limit space, which is presumed to be without geodesic terminals. The main result establishes a disc bundle structure for any manifold-with-boundary having two-sided bounds on sectional curvature and second fundamental form, and a lower bound on intrinsic injectivity radius, which is sufficiently close in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology to a closed manifold. The …
We prove that a sequence of solutions of the Seiberg-Witten equation with multiple spinors in dimension three can degenerate only by converging (after rescaling) to a Fueter section of a bundle of moduli spaces of ASD instantons.
In this paper, we mainly study the compactness and local structure of immersing surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with local uniform bounded area and small total curvature $\int_{Σ\cap B_1(0)} |A|^2$. A key ingredient is a new quantity which we call isothermal radius. Using the estimate of the isothermal radius we establish a compactness theorem of such surfaces in intrinsic $L^p$-topology and extrinsic $W^{2,2}$-weak topology. As applications, we can explain Leon Simon's decomposition theorem\cite{LS} in the viewpoint of convergence and prove a non-collapsing version of Hélein's convergence theorem\…
Uhlenbeck's compactness theorem can be used to analyze sequences of connections with anti-self dual curvature on principal SU(2) bundles over oriented 4-dimensional manifolds. The theorems in this paper give an extension of Uhlenbeck's theorem for sequences of solutions of certain SL(2,C) analogs of the anti-self dual equations.
Let M^n be a compact n-dimensional principal T^k-bundle. We consider collapsings of M on N=M/T^k such that the diameter and sectional curvature of M satisfy diam(M)<d and |K(M)|<a, and give examples of collapsings for all k such that the first non-zero eigenvalue of Laplacian acting on 1-forms and 2-forms of M are bounded above by c(M).inj(M)^2k. Moreover, we prove that the first non-zero eigenvalue of 1-form Laplacian of all T^k-bundle M over N is bounded below by c(n,d,a,N).Vol(M)^2 and c.inj(M)^2k when M collapses on N.
We prove that a sequence of Fueter sections of a bundle of compact hyperkahler manifolds $\mathfrak X$ over a $3$-manifold $M$ with bounded energy converges (after passing to a subsequence) outside a $1$-dimensional closed rectifiable subset $S \subset M$. The non-compactness along $S$ has two sources: (1) Bubbling-off of holomorphic spheres in the fibres of $\mathfrak X$ transverse to a subset $Γ\subset S$, whose tangent directions satisfy strong rigidity properties. (2) The formation of non-removable singularities in a set of $\mathcal H^1$-measure zero. Our analysis is based on the ideas an…
In this paper connections between different gauge-theoretical problems in high and low dimensions are established. In particular it is shown that higher dimensional asd equations on total spaces of spinor bundles over low dimensional manifolds can be interpreted as Taubes-Pidstrygach's generalization of the Seiberg-Witten equations. By collapsing each fibre of the spinor bundle to a point, solutions of the Taubes-Pidstrygach equations are related to generalized harmonic spinors. This approach is also generalized for arbitrary fibrations (without singular fibres) compatible with an appropriate …
If a sequence of Riemannian manifolds, $X_i$, converges in the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff sense to a limit space, $X_\infty$, and if $E_i$ are vector bundles over $X_i$ endowed with metrics of Sasaki-type with a uniform upper bound on rank, then a subsequence of the $E_i$ converges in the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff sense to a metric space, $E_\infty$. The projection maps $π_i$ converge to a limit submetry $π_\infty$ and the fibers converge to its fibers; the latter may no longer be vector spaces but are homeomorphic to $\R^k/G$, where $G$ is a closed subgroup of $O(k)$ ---called the {\em wane grou…
The regularity of limit spaces of Riemannian manifolds with L^p curvature bounds, $p > n/2$, is investigated under no apriori non-collapsing assumption. A regular subset, defined by a local volume growth condition for a limit measure, is shown to carry the structure of a Riemannian manifold. One consequence of this is a compactness theorem for Riemannian manifolds with $L^p$ curvature bounds and an a priori volume growth assumption in the pointed Cheeger-Gromov topology. A different notion of convergence is also studied, which replaces the exhaustion by balls in the pointed Cheeger-Gromov topo…
In the following article we study the limiting properties of the Yang-Mills flow associated to a holomorphic vector bundle E over an arbitrary compact Kähler manifold (X,ω). In particular we show that the flow is determined at infinity by the holomorphic structure of E. Namely, if we fix an integrable unitary reference connection A_0 defining the holomorphic structure, then the Yang-Mills flow with initial condition A_0, converges (away from an appropriately defined singular set) in the sense of the Uhlenbeck compactness theorem to a holomorphic vector bundle E_{\infty}, which is isomorphic to…
