A functorial approach to modules of G-dimension zero

Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and let $\G$ be the category of modules of G-dimension zero over $R$. We denote the associated stable category by $\pG$. We show that the functor category $\modpG$ is a Frobenius category and we argue how this property could characterize $\G$ as a subcategory of $\modR$.

Functorial Test Modules

In this article we introduce a slight modification of the definition of test modules which is an additive functor $τ$ on the category of coherent Cartier modules. We show that in many situations this modification agrees with the usual definition of test modules. Furthermore, we show that for a smooth morphism $f \colon X \to Y$ of $F$-finite schemes one has a natural isomorphism $f^! \circ τ\cong τ\circ f^!$. If $f$ is quasi-finite and of finite type we construct a natural transformation $τ\circ f_* \to f_* \circ τ$.

On Gorenstein Projective, Injective and Flat Dimensions - A Functorial Description with Applications

Gorenstein homological dimensions are refinements of the classical homological dimensions, and finiteness singles out modules with amenable properties reflecting those of modules over Gorenstein rings. Lefschetz extensions, tight closure, and big Cohen-Macaulay algebras

We associate to every equicharacteristic zero Noetherian local ring $R$ a faithfully flat ring extension which is an ultraproduct of rings of various prime characteristics, in a weakly functorial way. An axiomatic construction of an almost full embedding of the category of graphs into the category of R-objects

We construct embeddings G of the category of graphs into categories of R-modules over a commutative ring R which are almost full in the sense that the maps induced by the functoriality of G R[Hom_Graphs(X,Y)] --> Hom_R(GX,GY) are isomorphisms. The symbol R[S] above denotes the free R-module with the basis S. This implies that, for any cotorsion-free ring R, the categories of R-modules are not less complicated than the category of graphs. A similar embedding of graphs into the category of vector spaces with four distinguished subspaces (over any field, e.g. F_2={0,1} is obtained).

On the formal cohomology of local rings

Let $\mathfrak a$ denote an ideal of a local ring $(R, \mathfrak m).$ Let $M$ be a finitely generated $R$-module. There is a systematic study of the formal cohomology modules $\varprojlim \HH^i(M/\mathfrak a^nM), i \in \mathbb Z.$ We analyze their $R$-module structure, the upper and lower vanishing and non-vanishing in terms of intrinsic data of $M,$ and its functorial behavior. Quadratic maps between modules

We introduce a notion of $R$-quadratic maps between modules over a commutative ring $R$ which generalizes several classical notions arising in linear algebra and group theory. On a given module $M$ such maps are represented by $R$-linear maps on a certain module $P^2_R(M)$. Localization functors and cosupport in derived categories of commutative Noetherian rings

Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring. We introduce the notion of localization functors $λ^W$ with cosupports in arbitrary subsets $W$ of $\text{Spec}\, R$; it is a common generalization of localizations with respect to multiplicatively closed subsets and left derived functors of ideal-adic completion functors. Modules of G-dimension zero over local rings with the cube of maximal ideal being zero

Let $(R, \m)$ be a commutative Noetherian local ring with $\m^3 =(0)$. We give a condition for $R$ to have a non-free module of G-dimension zero. We shall also construct a family of non-isomorphic indecomposable modules of G-dimension zero with parameters in an open subset of projective space. We shall finally show that the subcategory consisting of modules of G-dimension zero over $R$ is not necessarily a contravariantly finite subcategory in the category of finitely generated $R$-modules.
