This is a survey paper on the work of D. Shlyakhtenko on free Araki-Woods factors. The paper was written (in French) on the occasion of the Bourbaki seminar. Our original contribution consists in computing the tau invariant for arbitrary free Araki-Woods factors.

We adapt the free monotone transport results of Guionnet and Shlyakhtenko to the type $\text{III}$ case. As a direct application, we obtain that the $q$-deformed Araki-Woods algebras are isomorphic (for sufficiently small $|q|$).
We show that Shlyakhtenko's free Araki-Woods factors are strongly solid, meaning that for any diffuse amenable von Neumann subalgebra that is the range of a normal conditional expectation, the normalizer remains amenable. This provides the first class of nonamenable strongly solid type III factors.
A review of our recent works on free product actions, partly in collaborations with Dimitri Shlyakhtenko and with Fumio Hiai, is given. We also work out type III theoretic subfactor analysis on the subfactors constructed in our previous works. This part can be read as supplementary appendix to the works.
We show that the operator Hilbert space OH introduced by Pisier embeds into the predual of the hyerfinite III1 factor. The main new tool is a Khintchine type inequality for the generators of the CAR algebra with respect to a quasi-free state. Our approach yields a Khintchine type inequality for the q-gaussian variables for all values q between -1 and 1. These results are closely related to recent results of Pisier and Shlyakhtenko in the free case.
Structure of extensions of free Araki-Woods factors

We show that any free product of finite-dimensional von Neumann algebras equipped with non-tracial states is isomorphic to a free Araki-Woods factor with its free quasi-free state possibly direct sum a finite-dimensional von Neumann algebra. We also extend this to suitable infinite-dimensional von Neumann algebras with almost periodic states.
We completely classify type III factor representations of Cuntz-Krieger algebras associated with quasi-free states up to unitary equivalence. Furthermore, we realize these representations on concrete Hilbert spaces without using GNS construction. Free groups and their type ${\rm II}_{1}$ factor representations are used in these realizations.

In this paper using one of the necessary conditions obtained for extendability in [BISSar], we prove that the CAR flows ([Amo01]) on type III factors arising from most quasi-free states are not extendable. As a consequence we find the super product system of CAR flows. We know from [Arv03] that CCR flows and CAR flows on type I factors with the same Arveson index are cocycle conjugate. We study the von Neumann algebra, generated by the regular representations of the infinite-dimensional nilpotent group $B_0^{\mathbb Z}$. In [14] a condition have been found on the measure for the right von Neumann algebra to be the commutant of the left one. In the present article, we prove that, in this case, the von Neumann algebra generated by the regular representations of group $B_0^{\mathbb Z}$ is the type ${\rm III}_1$ hyperfinite factor.
