In 1986 Goldman introduced a Lie algebra structure on the linear span L of conjugacy classes of the fundamental group of a closed oriented surface. It is easy to see that the class e_1 of the trivial loop is a central element in L. We prove that any central element of L is a multiple of e_1 (a conjecture communicated to the author by Chas and Sullivan), and moreover that any central element of the Poisson algebra SL is a polynomial of e_1.
By a result of Vallette, we put a sensible model structure on the category of conilpotent Lie coalgebras. This gives us a powerful tool to study the subcategory of Lie algebras obtained by linear dualization, also known as the category of pronilpotent Lie algebras. This way, we recover weaker versions of the celebrated Goldman-Millson theorem and Dolgushev-Rogers theorem by purely homotopical methods. We explore the relations of this procedure with the existent literature, namely the works of Lazarev-Markl and Buijs-Félix-Murillo-Tanré.
We define a family ${\rm KV}^{(g,n)}$ of Kashiwara-Vergne problems associated with compact connected oriented 2-manifolds of genus $g$ with $n+1$ boundary components. The problem ${\rm KV}^{(0,3)}$ is the classical Kashiwara-Vergne problem from Lie theory. We show the existence of solutions of ${\rm KV}^{(g,n)}$ for arbitrary $g$ and $n$. The key point is the solution of ${\rm KV}^{(1,1)}$ based on the results by B. Enriquez on elliptic associators. Our construction is motivated by applications to the formality problem for the Goldman-Turaev Lie bialgebra $\mathfrak{g}^{(g, n+1)}$. In more det…
In this paper, we describe a surprising link between the theory of the Goldman-Turaev Lie bialgebra on surfaces of genus zero and the Kashiwara-Vergne (KV) problem in Lie theory. Let $Σ$ be an oriented 2-dimensional manifold with non-empty boundary and $\mathbb{K}$ a field of characteristic zero. The Goldman-Turaev Lie bialgebra is defined by the Goldman bracket $\{ -,- \}$ and Turaev cobracket $δ$ on the $\mathbb{K}$-span of homotopy classes of free loops on $Σ$. Applying an expansion $θ: \mathbb{K}π\to \mathbb{K}\langle x_1, \dots, x_n \rangle$ yields an algebraic description of the operatio…
For an oriented 2-dimensional manifold $Σ$ of genus $g$ with $n$ boundary components the space $\mathbb{C}π_1(Σ)/[\mathbb{C}π_1(Σ), \mathbb{C}π_1(Σ)]$ carries the Goldman-Turaev Lie bialgebra structure defined in terms of intersections and self-intersections of curves. Its associated graded (under the natural filtration) is described by cyclic words in $H_1(Σ)$ and carries the structure of a necklace Schedler Lie bialgebra. The isomorphism between these two structures in genus zero has been established in [G. Massuyeau, Formal descriptions of Turaev's loop operations] using Kontsevich integral…
In this paper we show that, after completion in the I-adic topology, the Goldman bracket on the space spanned by homotopy classes of loops on a smooth, complex algebraic curve is a morphism of mixed Hodge structure. We prove similar statements for the natural action (defined by Kawazumi and Kuno) of the loops in X on paths from one "boundary component" to another. These results are used to construct torsors of isomorphisms of the the completed Goldman Lie algebra with the completion of its associated graded Lie algebra. Such splittings give torsors of partial solutions to the Kashiwara--Vergne…
Let $Σ$ be a compact connected oriented 2-dimensional manifold with non-empty boundary. In our previous work, we have shown that the solution of generalized (higher genus) Kashiwara-Vergne equations for an automorphism $F \in {\rm Aut}(L)$ of a free Lie algebra implies an isomorphism between the Goldman-Turaev Lie bialgebra $\mathfrak{g}(Σ)$ and its associated graded ${\rm gr}\, \mathfrak{g}(Σ)$. In this paper, we prove the converse: if $F$ induces an isomorphism $\mathfrak{g}(Σ) \cong {\rm gr} \, \mathfrak{g}(Σ)$, then it satisfies the Kashiwara-Vergne equations up to conjugation. As an appli…
We apply the techniques of quasideterminants to construct new families of Casimir elements for the general Lie superalgebra whose images under the Harish-Chandra isomorphism are respectively the elementary, complete and power sums supersymmetric functions
We construct a flat connection on the elliptic configuration space associated to any complex semisimple Lie algebra g. This elliptic Casimir connection has logarithmic singularities, and takes values in the deformed double current algebra of g defined by Guay. It degenerates to the trigonometric Casimir connection of g constructed by the first author. By analogy with the rational and trigonometric cases, we conjecture that the monodromy of the elliptic Casimir connection is described by the quantum Weyl group operators of the quantum toroidal algebra of g.
Let g be a complex, semisimple Lie algebra, G the corresponding simply-connected Lie group and H a maximal torus in G. We construct a flat connection on H with logarithmic singularities on the root hypertori and values in the Yangian Y(g) of g. By analogy with the rational Casimir connection of g, we conjecture that the monodromy of this trigonometric connection is described by the quantum Weyl group operators of the quantum loop algebra U_h(Lg).
We discuss and develop a systematic method to compute the Poisson center (Casimir) of various Poisson algebras associated to loops on orientable surfaces (possibly with boundary and punctures) introduced by Goldman and Wolpert in 80's while studying Thurston's earthquakes deformations. Our computation extends a result of Etingof to all finite type hyperbolic surfaces. We use these methods to compute the center of various skein algebras introduced by Turaev for the quantization of these Poisson algebras. As another application of our results we compute the center of homotopy skein algebra intro…
Let $U_q(\hat{\cal G})$ be an infinite-dimensional quantum affine Lie algebra. A family of central elements or Casimir invariants are constructed and their eigenvalues computed in any integrable irreducible highest weight representation. These eigenvalue formulae are shown to absolutely convergent when the deformation parameter $q$ is such that $|q|>1$. It is proven that the universal R-matrix $R$ of $U_q(\hat{\cal G})$ satisfies the celebrated conjugation relation $R^\dagger=TR$ with $T$ the usual twist map. As applications, the braid generator is shown to be diagonalizable on arbitrary tenso…
We construct characteristic identities for the split (polarized) Casimir operators of the simple Lie algebras in defining (minimal fundamental) and adjoint representations. By means of these characteristic identities, for all simple Lie algebras we derive explicit formulae for invariant projectors onto irreducible subrepresentations in T^{\otimes 2} in two cases, when T is the defining and the adjoint representation. In the case when T is the defining representation, these projectors and the split Casimir operator are used to explicitly write down invariant solutions of the Yang-Baxter equatio…
We construct a new grading on the Goldman Lie algebra of a closed oriented surface by the winding number. This grading induces a grading on the HOMFLY-PT skein algebra and related algebras. Our work supports the conjectures of B. Cooper and P. Samuelson
We prove the equivalence of two presentations of deformed double current algebras associated to a complex simple Lie algebra, the first one obtained via a degeneration of affine Yangians while the other one naturally appeared in the construction of the elliptic Casimir connection. We also construct a specific central element of these algebras and, in type A, show that they contain a very large center for certain values of their parameters.
We prove that the algebra $\cal{A}$ of chord diagrams, the dual to the associated graded algebra of Vassiliev knot invariants, is isomorphic to the universal enveloping algebra of a Casimir Lie algebra in a certain tensor category (the PROP for Casimir Lie algebras). This puts on a firm ground a known statement that the algebra $\cal{A}$ ``looks and behaves like a universal enveloping algebra''. An immediate corollary of our result is the conjecture of Bar-Natan, Garoufalidis, Rozansky, and Thurston on the Kirillov-Duflo isomorphism for algebras of chord diagrams. Our main tool is a general co…
The Lie bialgebras of the (1+1) extended Galilei algebra are obtained and classified into four multiparametric families. Their quantum deformations are obtained, together with the corresponding deformed Casimir operators. For the coboundary cases quantum universal R-matrices are also given. Applications of the quantum extended Galilei algebras to classical integrable systems are explicitly developed.
For any integer $d$ we introduce a prop $RHra_d$ of oriented ribbon hypergraphs (in which "edges" can connect more than two vertices) and prove that it admits a canonical morphism of props, $$ Holieb_d^\diamond \longrightarrow RHra_d, $$ $Holieb_d^\diamond$ being the (degree shifted) minimal resolution of prop of involutive Lie bialgebras, which is non-trivial on every generator of $Holieb_d^\diamond$. We obtain two applications of this general construction. As a first application we show that for any graded vector space $W$ equipped with a family of cyclically (skew)symmetric higher products …
In this note the notion of Poisson brackets in Kontsevich's "Lie World" is developed. These brackets can be thought of as "universally" defined classical Poisson structures, namely formal expressions only involving the structure maps of a quadratic Lie algebra. We prove a uniqueness statement about these Poisson brackets with a given moment map. As an application we get formulae for the linearization of the quasi-Poisson structure of the moduli space of flat connections on a punctured sphere, and thereby identify their symplectic leaves with the reduction of coadjoint orbits. Equivalently, we …
Let g be a complex, semisimple Lie algebra. We prove the existence of a quasi-Coxeter, quasitriangular quasibialgebra structure on the enveloping algebra of g, which binds the quasi-Coxeter structure underlying the Casimir connection of g and the quasitriangular quasibialgebra one underlying its KZ equations. This implies in particular that the monodromy of the rational Casimir connection of g is described by the quantum Weyl group operators of the quantum group U_h(g).
Consider a pronilpotent DG (differential graded) Lie algebra over a field of characteristic 0. In the first part of the paper we introduce the reduced Deligne groupoid associated to this DG Lie algebra. We prove that a DG Lie quasi-isomorphism between two such algebras induces an equivalence between the corresponding reduced Deligne groupoids. This extends the famous result of Goldman- Millson (attributed to Deligne) to the unbounded pronilpotent case. In the second part of the paper we consider the Deligne 2-groupoid. We show it exists under more relaxed assumptions than known before (the DG …
We regard the classification of rational homotopy types as a problem in algebraic deformation theory: any space with given cohomology is a perturbation, or deformation, of the "formal" space with that cohomology. The classifying space is then a "moduli" space --- a certain quotient of an algebraic variety of perturbations. The description we give of this moduli space links it with corresponding structures in homotopy theory, especially the classification of fibres spaces with fixed fibre F in terms of homotopy classes of maps of the base B into a classifying space constructed from the monoid o…
It is shown, for any irreducible representation of $E_8$ Lie algebra, that eigenvalues of Casimir operators can be calculated in the form of invariant polinomials which are decomposed in terms of $A_8$ basis functions. The general method is applied for degrees 8,12 and 14 for which 2,8 and 19 invariant polinomials are obtained respectively. For each particular degree, these invariant polinomials can be taken to be $E_8$ basis functions in the sense that any Casimir operator of $E_8$ has always eigenvalues which can be expressed as linear superpositions of them. This can be investigated by show…
New systems of Laplace (Casimir) operators for the orthogonal and symplectic Lie algebras are constructed. The operators are expressed in terms of paths in graphs related to matrices formed by the generators of these Lie algebras with the use of some properties of the noncommutative symmetric functions associated with a matrix. The decomposition of the Sklyanin determinant into a product of quasi-determinants play the main role in the construction. Analogous decomposition for the quantum determinant provides an alternative proof of the known construction for the Lie algebra gl(N).
We define analogs of the Jucys-Murphy elements for the affine Temperley-Lieb algebra and give their explicit expansion in terms of the basis of planar Brauer diagrams. These Jucys-Murphy elements are a family of commuting elements in the affine Temperley-Lieb algebra, and we compute their eigenvalues on the generic irreducible representations. We show that they come from Jucys-Murphy elements in the affine Hecke algebra of type A, which in turn come from the Casimir element of the quantum group $U_h\mathfrak{gl}_n$. We also give the explicit specializations of these results to the finite Tempe…
The basics of quasitriangular Hopf algebras and quantum Lie algebras are briefly reviewed, and it is shown that their properties allow the introduction of a Killing form. For quantum Lie algebras, this leads to the definitions of a Killing metric and quadratic casimir. The specific case of $\uea{su}{N}$ is examined in detail, where it is shown that many of the classical results are reproduced, and explicit calculations to illustrate the conclusions are presented for $\uea{su}{2}$.
It is well known that anomaly cancellations for D_16 Lie algebra are at the root of the first string revolution. For E_8 Lie algebra, cancellation of anomalies is the principal fact leading to the existence of heterotic string. They are in fact nothing but the 6th order cohomologies of corresponding Lie algebras. Beyond 6th order, the calculations seem to require special care and it could be that their study will be worthwhile in the light of developments of the second string revolution. As we have shown in a recent article, for A_N Lie algebras, there is a method which are based on the calcul…
We study polynomial Poisson algebras with some regularity conditions. Linear (Lie-Berezin-Kirillov) structures on dual spaces of semi-simple Lie algebras, quadratic Sklyanin elliptic algebras of \cite{FO1},\cite{FO2} as well as polynomial algebras recently described by Bondal-Dubrovin-Ugaglia (\cite{Bondal},\cite{Ug}) belong to this class. We establish some simple determinantal relations between the brackets and Casimirs in this algebras. These relations imply in particular that for Sklyanin elliptic algebras the sum of Casimir degrees coincides with the dimension of the algebra. We are discus…
