The problem of interpolation at $(n+1)^2$ points on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$ by spherical polynomials of degree at most $n$ is proved to have a unique solution for several sets of points. The points are located on a number of circles on the sphere with even number of points on each circle. The proof is based on a method of factorization of polynomials.
The aim of this paper is to study the approximation of functions using a higher order Hermite-Fejer interpolation process on the unit circle. The system of nodes is composed of vertically projected zeros of Jacobi polynomials onto the unit circle with boundary points at $ \pm1 $. Values of the polynomial and its first four derivatives are fixed by the interpolation conditions at the nodes. Convergence of the process is obtained for analytic functions on a suitable domain, and the rate of convergence is estimated.

The adaptive partition of unity interpolation method, introduced by Aiton and Driscoll, using Chebyshev local interpolants, is explored for interpolating functions with sharp gradients representing two-medium problems. For functions that evolve under vector fields, the partition of unity patches (covers) can be shifted and resized to follow the changing dynamics of local profiles. The method is tested for selected 1D and 2D two-medium problems with linear divergence-free vector fields. In those cases, the volume fraction in each patch contributing to volume conservation throughout the domain c…

We present three new semi-Lagrangian methods based on radial basis function (RBF) interpolation for numerically simulating transport on a sphere. The methods are mesh-free and are formulated entirely in Cartesian coordinates, thus avoiding any irregular clustering of nodes at artificial boundaries on the sphere and naturally bypassing any apparent artificial singularities associated with surface-based coordinate systems. For problems involving tracer transport in a given velocity field, the semi-Lagrangian framework allows these new methods to avoid the use of any stabilization terms (such as …
In this paper we revisit the classical problem of polynomial interpolation, with a slight twist; namely, polynomial evaluations are available up to a group action of the unit circle on the complex plane. It turns out that this new setting allows for a phaseless recovery of a polynomial in a polynomial time.
We study the problem of recovering an atomic measure on the unit 2-sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$ given finitely many moments with respect to spherical harmonics. The analysis relies on the formulation of this problem as an optimization problem on the space of bounded Borel measures on $\mathbb{S}^2$ as it was considered by Y. de Castro & F. Gamboa and E. Candés & C. Fernandez-Granda. We construct a dual certificate using a kernel given in an explicit form and make a concrete analysis of the interpolation problem. Numerical examples are provided and analyzed.
