Modification systems and integration in their Chow groups

A tree-based algorithm for the integration of monomials in the Chow ring of the moduli space of stable marked curves of genus zero

The Chow ring of the moduli space of marked rational curves is generated by Keel's divisor classes. The top graded part of this Chow ring is isomorphic to the integers, generated by the class of a single point. In this paper, we give an algorithm for computing the intersection degree of tuples of Keel's divisor classes. This computation is a concrete but complicated algorithmic question in the field. Also, we give a simple complexity argument for the algorithm. Additionally, we introduce three identities on multinomial coefficients, as well as proofs for them.

A graphical algorithm for the integration of monomials in the Chow ring of the moduli space of stable marked curves of genus zero

The Chow group of zero cycles in the moduli space of stable pointed curves of genus zero is isomorphic to the integer additive group. Let $M$ be monomial in this Chow group. If no two factors of $M$ fulfill a particular quadratic relation, then the monomial can be represented equivalently by a specific tree; otherwise, $M$ is mapped to zero under the stated isomorphism. Starting from this tree representation, we introduce a graphical algorithm for computing the corresponding integer for $M$ under the aforementioned isomorphism. The algorithm is linear with respect to the size of the tree.

Motivic Integration on the Hitchin Fibration

We prove that the moduli spaces of twisted $\mathrm{SL}_n$ and $\mathrm{PGL}_n$-Higgs bundles on a smooth projective curve have the same (stringy) class in the Grothendieck ring of rational Chow motives. On the level of Hodge numbers this was conjectured by Hausel and Thaddeus, and recently proven by Groechenig, Ziegler and the second author. To adapt their argument, which relies on p-adic integration, we use a version of motivic integration with values in rational Chow motives and the geometry of Néron models to evaluate such integrals on Hitchin fibers.

Chow groups of products of Severi-Brauer varieties and invariants of degree 3

We study the semi-decomposable invariants of a split semisimple group and their extension to a split reductive group by using the torsion in the codimension $2$ Chow groups of a product of Severi-Brauer varieties. In particular, for any $n\geq 2$ we completely determine the degree $3$ invariants of a split semisimple group, the quotient of $(\operatorname{\mathbf{SL}}_{2})^{n}$ by its maximal central subgroup, as well as of the corresponding split reductive group. Celestial integration, stringy invariants, and Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson classes

We introduce a formal integral on the system of varieties mapping properly and birationally to a given one, with value in an associated Chow group. Applications include comparisons of Chern numbers of birational varieties, new birational invariants, `stringy' Chern classes, and a `celestial' zeta function specializing to the topological zeta function.
