The usual notion of a site fibred over a stack is expanded to a definition of a site C/A fibred over a presheaf of categories A. Presheaves of simplicial sets on the site fibred over a presheaf of categories A are contravariant enriched diagrams defined on A, taking values in simplicial sets. The standard model structure for presheaves of simplicial sets induces a coarse equivariant structure for enriched contravariant A-diagrams. If the presheaf of categories is a presheaf of groupoids G, then the associated homotopy theory is Quillen equivalent to the homotopy theory of simplicial presheaves over BG, and so the homotopy theory for the fibred site C/G is an invariant of the homotopy type of G. Similar homotopy invariance results obtain for presheaves of spectra and presheaves of symmetric spectra on C/G. In particular, stack cohomology can be calculated on the fibred site for a representing presheaf of groupoids.
On a smoothly stratified space, we identify intersection cohomology of any given perversity with an associated weighted $L^2$ cohomology for iterated fibred cusp metrics on the smooth stratum. In particular given a Witt space, we identify the $L^2$ cohomology of iterated fibred cusp metrics with the middle perversity intersection cohomology of the corresponding stratified space.
We study fibred spaces with fibres in a structure category $\V$ and we show that cellular approximation, Blakers--Massey theorem, Whitehead theorems, obstruction theory, Hurewicz homomorphism, Wall finiteness obstruction, and Whitehead torsion theorem hold for fibred spaces. For this we introduce the cohomology of fibred spaces.
In this article we use the combinatorial and geometric structure of manifolds with embedded cylinders in order to develop an adiabatic decomposition of the Hodge cohomology of these manifolds. We will on the one hand describe the adiabatic behaviour of spaces of harmonic forms by means of a certain Čech-de Rham complex and on the other hand generalise the Cappell-Lee-Miller splicing map to the case of a finite number of edges, thus combining the topological and the analytic viewpoint. In parts, this work is a generalisation of works of Cappell, Lee and Miller in which a single-edged graph is c…
For a particular class of pseudo manifolds, we show that the intersection cohomology groups for any perversity may be naturally represented by extended weighted $L^2$ harmonic forms for a complete metric on the regular stratum with respect to some weight determined by the perversity. Extended weighted $L^2$ harmonic forms are harmonic forms that are almost in the given weighted $L^2$ space for the metric in question, but not quite. This result is akin to the representation of absolute and relative cohomology groups for a manifold with boundary by extended harmonic forms on the associated manif…
Let $\mathscr{V}\mathrm{ect}_n$ be the moduli stack of vector bundles of rank $n$ on schemes. We prove that, if $E$ is a Zariski sheaf of ring spectra which is equipped with finite quasi-smooth transfers and satisfies the projective bundle formula, then $E^*(\mathscr{V}\mathrm{ect}_{n,S})$ is freely generated by Chern classes $c_1,\dotsc,c_n$ over $E^*(S)$ for any scheme $S$. Examples include all multiplicative localizing invariants.
Cohomology of a topological space with coefficients in stacks of abelian 2-groups is considered. A 2-categorical analog of the theorem of Grothendieck is proved, relating cohomology of the space with coefficients in a 2-stage spectrum and the Ext groups of appropriate stacks.

We study the inertia stack of [M_{0,n}/S_n], the quotient stack of the moduli space of smooth genus 0 curves with n marked points via the action of the symmetric group S_n. Then we see how from this analysis we can obtain a description of the inertia stack of H_g, the moduli stack of hyperelliptic curves of genus g. From this, we can compute additively the Chen-Ruan (or orbifold) cohomology of H_g.
We construct and analyse models of equivariant cohomology for differentiable stacks with Lie group actions extending classical results for smooth manifolds due to Borel, Cartan and Getzler. We also derive various spectral sequences for the equivariant cohomology of a differentiable stack generalising among others Bott's spectral sequence which converges to the cohomology of the classifying space of a Lie group.
Let $G$ be a smooth connected reductive group over a field $k$ and $Γ$ be a central subgroup of $G$. We construct Eilenberg-Moore-type spectral sequences converging to the Hodge and de Rham cohomology of $B(G/Γ)$. As an application, building upon work of Toda and using Totaro's inequality, we show that for all $m\geq 0$ the Hodge and de Rham cohomology algebras of the classifying stacks $B\mathrm{PGL}_{4m+2}$ and $B\mathrm{PSO}_{4m+2}$ over $\mathbb{F}_2$ are isomorphic to the singular $\mathbb{F}_2$-cohomology of the classifying space of the corresponding Lie group. From this we obtain a full…
We extend Massey products from cohomology to differential cohomology via stacks, organizing and generalizing existing constructions in Deligne cohomology. We study the properties and show how they are related to more classical Massey products in de Rham, singular, and Deligne cohomology. The setting and the algebraic machinery via stacks allow for computations and make the construction well-suited for applications. We illustrate with several examples from differential geometry and mathematical physics.
In this work we describe the Chen-Ruan cohomology of the moduli stacks of smooth and stable genus 2 pointed curves, and its algebraic counterpart: the stringy Chow ring. In the first half of the paper we compute the additive structure of the Chen-Ruan cohomology ring for the moduli stack of stable pointed genus 2 curves, describing it as a rationally graded vector space. In the second part we give generators for the even Chen--Ruan cohomology ring as an algebra on the ordinary cohomology.
In this work we study the additive orbifold cohomology of the moduli stack of smooth genus g curves. We show that this problem reduces to investigating the rational cohomology of moduli spaces of cyclic covers of curves where the genus of the covering curve is g. Then we work out the case of genus g=3. Furthermore, we determine the part of the orbifold cohomology of the Deligne-Mumford compactification of the moduli space of genus 3 curves that comes from the Zariski closure of the inertia stack of M_3.
We study torsors over 2-groups and their morphisms. In particular, we study the first non-abelian cohomology group with values in a 2-group. Butterfly diagrams encode morphisms of 2-groups and we employ them to examine the functorial behavior of non-abelian cohomology under change of coefficients. We re-interpret the first non-abelian cohomology with coefficients in a 2-group in terms of gerbes bound by a crossed module. Our main result is to provide a geometric version of the change of coefficients map by lifting a gerbe along the "fraction" (weak morphism) determined by a butterfly. As a pra…
Standard results from non-abelian cohomology theory specialize to a theory of torsors and stacks for cosimplicial groupoids. The space of global sections of the stack completion of a cosimplicial groupoid $G$ is weakly equivalent to the Bousfield-Kan total complex of $BG$ for all cosimplicial groupoids $G$. The $k$-invariants for the Postnikov tower of a cosimplicial space $X$ are naturally elements of stack cohomology for the stack associated to the fundamental groupoid $π(X)$ of $X$. Cocycle-theoretic ideas and techniques are used throughout the paper.
We generalize the van Est map and isomorphism theorem in three ways, and we discuss conjectured connections with homotopy theory, including a proposal of a category which unifies differentiable stacks, Lie algebroids and homotopy theory. In Part 2 of this thesis we generalize the van Est map from a comparison map between Lie groupoid cohomology and Lie algebroid cohomology to a (more conceptual) comparison map between the cohomology of a stack $\mathcal{G}$ and the cohomology of a simple foliation $\mathcal{H}\to\mathcal{G}$. In Part 1 we generalize the functions that we can take cohomology of…
We connect the homotopy type of simplicial moduli spaces of algebraic structures to the cohomology of their deformation complexes. Then we prove that under several assumptions, mapping spaces of algebras over a monad in an appropriate diagram category form affine stacks in the sense of Toen-Vezzosi's homotopical algebraic geometry. This includes simplicial moduli spaces of algebraic structures over a given object (for instance a cochain complex). When these algebraic structures are parametrised by properads, the tangent complexes give the known cohomology theory for such structures and there i…
We look more closely at the higher nonabelian de Rham cohomology of a smooth projective variety or family of varieties that had been defined in some previous papers. We formalize using $n$-stacks the notion of shape underlying this nonabelian cohomology. A generalization of the de Rham construction to any appropriate formal category or family of formal categories, yields various algebraic aspects of Hodge theory for the de Rham shape, such as the Hodge filtration, the Gauss-Manin connection, Griffiths transversality, an extension of the Gauss-Manin connection with regular singularities across …
In this paper, we study Azumaya algebras and Brauer groups in derived algebraic geometry. We establish various fundamental facts about Brauer groups in this setting, and we provide a computational tool, which we use to compute the Brauer group in several examples. In particular, we show that the Brauer group of the sphere spectrum vanishes, and we use this to prove two uniqueness theorems for the stable homotopy category. Our key technical results include the local geometricity, in the sense of Artin n-stacks, of the moduli space of perfect modules over a smooth and proper algebra, the étale l…
The existence of interesting multiplicative cohomology theories for orbifolds was first suggested by string theorists. Orbifold products have been intensely studied by mathematicians for the last fifteen years. In this paper we focus on the virtual orbifold product that was first introduced in Lupercio et al. (2007). We construct a categorification of the virtual orbifold product that leverages the geometry of derived loop stacks. By work of Ben-Zvi, Francis and Nadler, this reveals connections between virtual orbifold products and Drinfeld centers of monoidal categories, thus answering a ques…
This paper begins the study of Morse theory for orbifolds, or more precisely for differentiable Deligne-Mumford stacks. The main result is an analogue of the Morse inequalities that relates the orbifold Betti numbers of an almost-complex orbifold to the critical points of a Morse function on the orbifold. We also show that a generic function on an orbifold is Morse. In obtaining these results we develop for differentiable Deligne-Mumford stacks those tools of differential geometry and topology -- flows of vector fields, the strong topology -- that are essential to the development of Morse theo…
We determine the $\ell$-adic étale cohomology and the eigenvalues of the geometric Frobenius for the moduli stack $\mathcal{L}_{1,12n} := \mathrm{Hom}_{n}(\mathbb{P}^1, \overline{\mathcal{M}}_{1,1})$ of stable elliptic fibrations over $\mathbb{P}^{1}$ with $12n$ nodal singular fibers and a marked Weierstrass section over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_q$ with $\mathrm{char}(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_q) \neq 2,3$.
We construct a complex analytic version of an equivariant cohomology theory which appeared in a recent paper of Rezk, and which is roughly modeled on the Borel-equivariant cohomology of the double free loop space. The construction is defined on finite, torus-equivariant CW complexes and takes values in coherent holomorphic sheaves over the moduli stack of complex elliptic curves. Our methods involve an inverse limit construction over all finite dimensional subcomplexes of the double free loop space, following an analogous construction of Kitchloo for single free loop spaces. We show that, for …
