We provide new infinitesimal characterizations for strong invariance of multifunctions in terms of Hamiltonian inequalities and tangent cones. In lieu of the standard local Lipschitzness assumption on the multifunction, we assume a new feedback realizability condition that can in particular be satisfied by control systems that are discontinuous in the state variable. Our realization condition is based on H. Sussmann's unique limiting property, and allows a more general class of feedback realizations than is allowed by the recent strong invariance characterizations of Krastanov, Malisoff, and Wolenski. We also give new nonsmooth monotonicity characterizations for control systems that may be discontinuous in the state.
We present several results describing the interplay between the max algebraic joint spectral radius (JSR) for compact sets of matrices and suitably defined matrix norms. In particular, we extend a classical result for the conventional algebra, showing that the JSR can be described in terms of induced norms of the matrices in the set. We also show that for a set generating an irreducible semigroup (in a cone-theoretic sense), a monotone Barabanov norm always exists. This fact is then used to show that the max algebraic JSR is locally Lipschitz continuous on the space of compact irreducible sets…
We study state estimation for nonlinear differential-algebraic systems, where the nonlinearity satisfies a Lipschitz condition or a generalized monotonicity condition or a combination of these. The presented observer design unifies earlier approaches and extends the standard Luenberger type observer design. The design parameters of the observer can be obtained from the solution of a linear matrix inequality restricted to a subspace determined by the Wong sequences. Some illustrative examples and a comparative discussion are given.
Remarks regarding the gap between continuous, Lipschitz, and differentiable storage functions for dissipation inequalities appearing in $H_\infty$ control
We propose a linesearch projection algorithm for solving non-monotone and non-Lipschitzian equilibrium problems in Hilbert spaces. It is proved that the sequence generated by the proposed algorithm converges strongly to a solution of the equilibrium problem under the assumption that the solution set of the associated Minty equilibrium problem is nonempty. Compared with existing methods, we do not employ Fejér monotonicity in the strategy of proving the convergence. This comes from projecting a fixed point instead of the current point onto a subset of the feasible set at each iteration. Moreove…

This paper is concerned with a class of mean-field type coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations (MF-FBSDEs, for short), in which the coupling appears in integral terms, terminal terms, and initial terms. Inspired by various mean-field type linear-quadratic (MF-LQ,for short) optimal control problems, we proposed a type of randomized domination-monotonicity conditions, under which and the usual Lipschitz condition, we obtain a well-posedness result on MF-FBSDEs in the sense of square integrability including the unique solvability, an estimate of the solution, and the related c…
We address Nash equilibrium problems in a partial-decision information scenario, where each agent can only exchange information with some neighbors, while its cost function possibly depends on the strategies of all agents. We characterize the relation between several monotonicity and smoothness conditions postulated in the literature. Furthermore, we prove convergence of a preconditioned proximal point algorithm, under a restricted monotonicity property that allows for a non-Lipschitz, non-continuous game mapping.

In this manuscript, we propose a structural condition on non-separable Hamiltonians, which we term displacement monotonicity condition, to study second order mean field games master equations. A rate of dissipation of a bilinear form is brought to bear a global (in time) well-posedness theory, based on a--priori uniform Lipschitz estimates on the solution in the measure variable. Displacement monotonicity being sometimes in dichotomy with the widely used Lasry-Lions monotonicity condition, the novelties of this work persist even when restricted to separable Hamiltonians.
A global optimization approach for solving non-monotone equilibrium problems (EPs) is proposed. The class of (regularized) gap functions is used to reformulate any EP as a constrained global optimization program and some bounds on the Lipschitz constant of such functions are provided. The proposed global optimization approach is a combination of an improved version of the \texttt{DIRECT} algorithm, which exploits local bounds of the Lipschitz constant of the objective function, with local minimizations. Unlike most existing solution methods for EPs, no monotonicity-type condition is assumed in…
In infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces we device a class of strongly convergent primal-dual schemes for solving variational inequalities defined by a Lipschitz continuous and pseudomonote map. Our novel numerical scheme is based on Tseng's forward-backward-forward scheme, which is known to display weak convergence, unless very strong global monotonicity assumptions are made on the involved operators. We provide a simple augmentation of this algorithm which is computationally cheap and still guarantees strong convergence to a minimal norm solution of the underlying problem. We provide an adapti…
In this paper we study second order master equations arising from mean field games with common noise over arbitrary time duration. A classical solution typically requires the monotonicity condition (or small time duration) and sufficiently smooth data. While keeping the monotonicity condition, our goal is to relax the regularity of the data, which is an open problem in the literature. In particular, we do not require any differentiability in terms of the measures, which prevents us from obtaining classical solutions. We shall propose three weaker notions of solutions, named as {\it good soluti…
