All finitely generated 3-manifold groups are Grothendieck rigid

In this paper, we prove that all finitely generated 3-manifold groups are Grothendieck rigid. More precisely, for any finitely generated 3-manifold group $G$ and any finitely generated proper subgroup $H<G$, we prove that the inclusion induced homomorphism $\widehat{i}:\widehat{H}\to \widehat{G}$ on profinite completions is not an isomorphism.

On the finitely generated Hausdorff spectrum of spinal groups

We study the finitely generated Hausdorff spectrum of spinal automorphism groups acting on rooted trees. Given any $α\in [0,1]$, we construct a branch group $G_α$ such that $G_α$ has a finitely generated subgroup $H$ where $H$ has Hausdorff dimension $α$ in $G$. Finitely generated subgroups of lattices in PSL(2,C)

Let G be a lattice in PSL(2,C). The pro-normal topology on G is defined by taking all cosets of non-trivial normal subgroups as a basis. This topology is finer than the pro-finite topology, but it is not discrete. We prove that every finitely generated subgroup H<G is closed in the pro-normal topology. As a corollary we deduce that if M is a maximal subgroup of a lattice in PSL(2,C) then either M is finite index or M is not finitely generated.

Commensurability and QI classification of free products of finitely generated abelian groups

Suppose a group $G$ is quasi-isometric to a free product of a finite set $S$ of finitely generated abelian groups; let $S'$ denote the set of ranks of the free abelian parts of the groups in $S$. Then $G$ is commensurable with the free product of $\Z$ with a $\Z^n$ for each $n$ occurring in $S'$.

On the category of finitely generated free groups

It is well known that the opposite F^{op} of the category F of finitely generated free groups is a Lawvere theory for groups, and also that F is a free symmetric monoidal category on a commutative Hopf monoid, or, in other words, a PROP for commutative Hopf algebras.
