Nonlinear Schrodinger Equations (NLS) of the Hartree type occur in the modeling of quantum semiconductor devices. Their "semiclassical" limit of vanishing (scaled) Planck constant is both a mathematical challenge and practically relevant when coupling quantum models to classical models.
With the aim of describing the semi-classical limit of the 3D Schrodinger--Poisson system with an additional harmonic potential, we study some semi-classical limits of the Hartree equation with harmonic potential in space dimension n>1. The harmonic potential is confining, and causes focusing periodically in time. We prove asymptotics in several cases, showing different possible nonlinear phenomena according to the interplay of the size of the initial data and the power of the Hartree potential. In the case of the 3D Schrodinger-Poisson system with harmonic potential, we can only give a formal computation since the need of modified scattering operators for this long range scattering case goes beyond current theory. We also deal with the case of an additional "local" nonlinearity given by a power of the local density - a model that is relevant when incorporating the Pauli principle in the simplest model given by the "Schrodinger-Poisson-X$α$ equation". Further we discuss the connection of our WKB based analysis to the Wigner function approach to semiclassical limits.

This note studies the asymptotic behavior of global solutions to the fourth-order generalized Hartree equation $$i\dot u+Δ^2 u\pm(I_α*|u|^p)|u|^{p-2}u=0.$$ Indeed, for both attractive and repulsive sign, the scattering is obtained in the mass super-critical and energy sub-critical regimes, with radial setting.
This manuscript proves the energy scattering of global solutions to a repulsive fourth-order generalized Hartree equation with non-radial data in the inter-critical regime. This work uses a new approach due to Dodson-Murphy [4] and extends the previous work [14] by removing the spherically symmetric assumption on the data.
We justify WKB analysis for Hartree equation in space dimension at least three, in a regime which is supercritical as far as semiclassical analysis is concerned. The main technical remark is that the nonlinear Hartree term can be considered as a semilinear perturbation. This is in contrast with the case of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation with a local nonlinearity, where quasilinear analysis is needed to treat the nonlinearity.
We consider a class of evolution equations in Lindblad form, which model the dynamics of dissipative quantum mechanical systems with mean-field interaction. Particularly, this class includes the so-called Quantum Fokker-Planck-Poisson model. The existence and uniqueness of global-in-time, mass preserving solutions is proved, thus establishing the existence of a nonlinear conservative quantum dynamical semigroup. The mathematical difficulties stem from combining an unbounded Lindblad generator with the Hartree nonlinearity.
We study the propagation of wave packets for nonlinear nonlocal Schrodinger equations in the semi-classical limit. When the kernel is smooth, we construct approximate solutions for the wave functions in subcritical, critical and supercritical cases (in terms of the size of the initial data). The validity of the approximation is proved up to Ehrenfest time. For homogeneous kernels, we establish similar results in subcritical and critical cases. Nonlinear superposition principle for two nonlinear wave packets is also considered.
We prove local and global well-posedness for semi-relativistic, nonlinear Schrödinger equations $i \partial_t u = \sqrt{-Δ+ m^2} u + F(u)$ with initial data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^3)$, $s \geq 1/2$. Here $F(u)$ is a critical Hartree nonlinearity that corresponds to Coulomb or Yukawa type self-interactions. For focusing $F(u)$, which arise in the quantum theory of boson stars, we derive a sufficient condition for global-in-time existence in terms of a solitary wave ground state. Our proof of well-posedness does not rely on Strichartz type estimates, and it enables us to add external potentials of a…
We consider the Wigner equation corresponding to a nonlinear Schroedinger evolution of the Hartree type in the semiclassical limit $\hbar\to 0$. Under appropriate assumptions on the initial data and the interaction potential, we show that the Wigner function is close in $L^2$ to its weak limit, the solution of the corresponding Vlasov equation. The strong approximation allows the construction of semiclassical operator-valued observables, approximating their quantum counterparts in Hilbert-Schmidt topology. The proof makes use of a pointwise-positivity manipulation, which seems necessary in wor…
In this paper, we prove a quantitative version of the semiclassical limit from the Hartree to the Vlasov equation with singular interaction, including the Coulomb potential. To reach this objective, we also prove the propagation of velocity moments and weighted Schatten norms which implies the boundedness of the space density of particles uniformly in the Planck constant.
We consider the three-dimensional semi-relativistic Hartree model for fast quantum mechanical particles moving in a self-consistent field. Under appropriate assumptions on the initial density matrix as a (fully) mixed quantum state we prove, using Wigner transformation techniques, that its classical limit yields the well known relativistic Vlasov-Poisson system. The result holds for the case of attractive and repulsive mean-field interaction, with an additional size constraint in the attractive case.

We review the recent results [45, 46] concerning the semiclassical limit from the Hartree dynamics to the Vlasov equation with singular potentials and extend them to the case of more general radial interactions. We prove that, at positive temperature, the Hartree dynamics converges in trace norm to the Vlasov one, for a particular class of initial states.
We consider the Hartree equation with a smooth kernel and an external potential, in the semiclassical regime. We analyze the propagation of two initial wave packets, and show different possible effects of the interaction, according to the size of the nonlinearity in terms of the semiclassical parameter. We show three different sorts of nonlinear phenomena. In each case, the structure of the wave as a sum of two coherent states is preserved. However, the envelope and the center (in phase space) of these two wave packets are affected by nonlinear interferences, which are described precisely.
We prove the existence of a solution to the semirelativistic Hartree equation $$\sqrt{-Δ+m^2}u+ V(x) u = A(x)\left( W * |u|^p \right) |u|^{p-2}u $$ under suitable growth assumption on the potential functions $V$ and $A$. In particular, both can be unbounded from above.
We consider the nonlinear Hartree and Vlasov equations around a translation-invariant (homogeneous) stationary state in infinite volume, for a short range interaction potential. For both models, we consider time-dependent solutions which have a finite relative energy with respect to the reference translation-invariant state. We prove the convergence of the Hartree solutions to the Vlasov ones in a semi-classical limit and obtain as a by-product global well-posedness of the Vlasov equation in the (relative) energy space.
The semi-classical regime of standing wave solutions of a Schrödinger equation in presence of non-constant electric and magnetic potentials is studied in the case of non-local nonlinearities of Hartree type. It is show that there exists a family of solutions having multiple concentration regions which are located around the minimum points of the electric potential.
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of solutions to semi-classical Schroedinger equations with nonlinearities of Hartree type. For a weakly nonlinear scaling, we show the validity of an asymptotic superposition principle for slowly modulated highly oscillatory pulses. The result is based on a high-frequency averaging effect due to the nonlocal nature of the Hartree potential, which inhibits the creation of new resonant waves. In the proof we make use of the framework of Wiener algebras.
We study nondegeneracy of ground states of the Hartree equation $$ -Δu+u=(I_{2}\ast u^2)u\quad\mbox{ in }\mathbb R^n $$ where $n=3,4,5$ and $I_2$ is the Newton potential. As an application of the nondegeneracy result, we use a Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction argument to construct multiple semiclassical solutions to the following Hartree equation with an external potential $$-\varepsilon^2Δu+u+V(x)u=\varepsilon^{-2}(I_{2}\ast u^2)u\quad \mbox{ in }\mathbb R^n.$$
In this paper we study the semiclassical limit for the pseudo-relativistic Hartree equation $\sqrt{-\varepsilon^2 Δ+ m^2}u + V u = (I_α* |u|^{p}) |u|^{p-2}u$ in $\mathbb{R}^N$ where $m>0$, $2 \leq p < \frac{2N}{N-1}$, $V \colon \mathbb{R}^N \to \mathbb{R}$ is an external scalar potential, $I_α(x) = \frac{c_{N,α}}{|x|^{N-α}}$ is a convolution kernel, $c_{N,α}$ is a positive constant and $(N-1)p-N<α<N$. For $N=3$, $α=p=2$, our equation becomes the pseudo-relativistic Hartree equation with Coulomb kernel.
We establish both a local and a global well-posedness theories for the nonlinear Hartree-Fock equations and its reduced analog in the setting of the modulation spaces on $\mathbb R^d$. In addition, we prove similar results when a harmonic potential is added to the equations. In the process, we prove the boundedeness of certain multilinear operators on products of the modulation spaces which may be of independent interest.
We show that there is an one-to-one correspondence between solutions to the Poisson-Landscape equations and the reduced Hartree-Fock equations in the semi-classical limit at low temperature. Moreover, we prove that the difference between the two corresponding solutions is small by providing explicit estimates.
In this paper we study the small data scattering of Hartree type semirelativistic equation in space dimension $3$. The Hartree type nonlinearity is $[V * |u|^2]u$ and the potential $V$ which generalizes the Yukawa has some growth condition. We show that the solution scatters to linear solution if an initial data given in $ H^{s,1}$ is sufficiently small and $s>\frac14$. Here, $H^{s, 1}$ is Sobolev type space taking in angular regularity with norm defined by $\|φ\|_{ H^{s, 1}} = \|φ\|_{ H^{s}} + \|\nabla_{\mathbb S} φ\|_{H^{s}}$. To establish the results we employ the recently developed Stricha…
For the gravitational Vlasov-Poisson equation, Guo and Rein constructed a class of classical isotropic states as minimizers of free energies (or energy-Casimir functionals) under mass constraints. For the quantum counterpart, that is, the gravitational Hartree equation, isotropic states are constructed as free energy minimizers by Aki, Dolbeault and Sparber. In this paper, we are concerned with the correspondence between quantum and classical isotropic states. Precisely, we prove that as the Planck constant $\hbar$ goes to zero, free energy minimizers for the Hartree equation converge to those…
We study the asymptotic behavior of the Schrödinger equation in the presence of a nonlinearity of Hartree type in the semi-classical regime. Our scaling corresponds to a weakly nonlinear regime where the nonlinearity affects the leading order amplitude of the solution without altering the rapid oscillations. We show the validity of the WKB-analysis when the potential in the nonlinearity is singular around the origin. No new resonant wave is created in our model, this phenomenon is inhibited due to the nonlinearity. The nonlocal nature of this latter leads us to build our result on a high-frequ…
We consider the semiclassical limit of the Hartree equation with a data causing a focusing at a point. We study the asymptotic behavior of phase function associated with the WKB approximation near the caustic when a nonlinearity is supercritical. In this case, it is known that a phase shift occurs in a neighborhood of focusing time in the case of focusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Thanks to the smoothness of the nonlocal nonlinearities, we justify the WKB-type approximation of the solution for a data which is larger than in the previous results and is not necessarily well-prepared.…
We prove that any positive solution for the critical nonlinear Hartree equation $$-\Laplacian\fct{u}{x} -\int_{\R^6} \frac{\abs{\fct{u}{y}}^2 }{ \abs{x-y}^4 }\odif{y} \,\fct{u}{x}=0,\qtq{} x\in\R^6.$$ is nondegenerate. Firstly, in terms of spherical harmonics, we show that the corresponding linear operator can be decomposed into a series of one dimensional linear operators. Secondly, by making use of the Perron-Frobenius property, we show that the kernel of each one dimensional linear operator is finite. Finally, we show that the kernel of the corresponding linear operator is the direct sum of…
We consider the long time asymptotics of (not necessarily small) odd solutions to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with semi-linear and nonlocal Hartree nonlinearities, in one dimension of space. We assume data in the energy space $H^1(\mathbb{R})$ only, and we prove decay to zero in compact regions of space as time tends to infinity. We give three different results where decay holds: semilinear NLS, NLS with a suitable potential, and defocusing Hartree. The proof is based on the use of suitable virial identities, in the spirit of nonlinear Klein-Gordon models as in Kowalczyk-Martel-Muñoz, a…
We are interested in the general Choquard equation \begin{multline*} \sqrt{\strut -Δ+ m^2} \ u - mu + V(x)u - \fracμ{|x|} u = \left( \int_{\mathbb{R}^N} \frac{F(y,u(y))}{|x-y|^{N-α}} \, dy \right) f(x,u) - K (x) |u|^{q-2}u \end{multline*} under suitable assumptions on the bounded potential \(V\) and on the nonlinearity \(f\). Our analysis extends recent results by the second and third author on the problem with $μ= 0$ and pure-power nonlinearity $f(x,u)=|u|^{p-2}u$. We show that, under appropriate assumptions on the potential, whether the ground state does exist or not. Finally, we study the a…
We prove that the initial value problem for the equation \[ - i\partial_t u + \sqrt{m^2-Δ} \, u= (\frac{e^{-μ_0 |x|}}{|x|} \ast |u|^2)u \ \text{in} \ \mathbb R^{1+3}, \quad m\ge 0, \ μ_0 >0\] is globally well-posed and the solution scatters to free waves asymptotically as $t \to \pm \infty$ if we start with initial data which is small in $H^s(\mathbb R^{3})$ for $s>\frac12$, and if $m>0$. Moreover, if the initial data is radially symmetric we can improve the above result to $m\ge 0$ and $s>0$, which is almost optimal, in the sense that $L^2(\mathbb R^{3})$ is the critical space for the equatio…
In this paper we consider the defocusing Hartree nonlinear Schrödinger equations on $\mathbb T^3$ with real valued and even potential $V$ and Fourier multiplier decaying like $|k|^{-β}$. By relying on the method of random averaging operators in arXiv:1910.08492, we show that there exists $\frac{1}{2} \ll β_0 <1 $ such that for $ β> β_0 $ we have invariance of the associated Gibbs measure and global existence of strong solutions in its statistical ensemble. In this way we extend Bourgain's seminal result [7] which requires $β>2$ in this case.
