Consider an operator equation (*) $B(u)+\ep u=0$ in a real Hilbert space, where $\ep>0$ is a small constant. The DSM (dynamical systems method) for solving equation (*) consists of a construction of a Cauchy problem, which has the following properties:
1) it has a global solution for an arbitrary initial data, 2) this solution tends to a limit as time tends to infinity,
3) the limit solves the equation $B(u)=0$. Existence of the unique solution is proved by the DSM for equation (*) with monotone hemicontinuous operators $B$ defined on all of$ If $\ep=0$ and equation (**) $B(u)=0$ is solvable, the DSM yields$ solution to (**).
The aim of this article is to present two different primal-dual methods for solving structured monotone inclusions involving parallel sums of compositions of maximally monotone operators with linear bounded operators. By employing some elaborated splitting techniques, all of the operators occurring in the problem formulation are processed individually via forward or backward steps. The treatment of parallel sums of linearly composed maximally monotone operators is motivated by applications in imaging which involve first- and second-order total variation functionals, to which a special attentio…
A version of the Dynamical Systems Method for solving ill-posed nonlinear equations with monotone and locally Hölder continuous operators is studied in this paper. A discrepancy principle is proposed and justified under natural and weak assumptions. The only smoothness assumption on $F$ is the local Hölder continuity of order $α>1/2$.
We introduce and investigate the convergence properties of an inertial forward-backward-forward splitting algorithm for approaching the set of zeros of the sum of a maximally monotone operator and a single-valued monotone and Lipschitzian operator. By making use of the product space approach, we expand it to the solving of inclusion problems involving mixtures of linearly composed and parallel-sum type monotone operators. We obtain in this way an inertial forward-backward-forward primal-dual splitting algorithm having as main characteristic the fact that in the iterative scheme all operators a…
Let $E$ be a uniformly smooth and uniformly convex real Banach space and $E^*$ be its dual space. Suppose $A : E\rightarrow E^*$ is bounded, strongly monotone and satisfies the range condition such that $A^{-1}(0)\neq \emptyset$. Inspired by Alber [2], we introduce Lyapunov functions and use the new geometric properties of Banach spaces to show the strong convergence of an iterative algorithm to the solution of $Ax=0$.
Consider an operator equation (*) $B(u)-f=0$ in a real Hilbert space. Let us call this equation ill-posed if the operator $B'(u)$ is not boundedly invertible, and well-posed otherwise. The DSM (dynamical systems method) for solving equation (*) consists of a construction of a Cauchy problem, which has the following properties: 1) it has a global solution for an arbitrary initial data, 2) this solution tends to a limit as time tends to infinity, 3) the limit is the minimal-norm solution to the equation $B(u)=f$. A global convergence theorem is proved for DSM for equation (*) with monotone $C_{l…
By extending the classical quantitative approximation results for positive and linear operators in $L^{p}([0, 1]), 1\le p \le +\infty$ of Berens and DeVore in 1978 and of Swetits and Wood in 1983 to the more general case of sublinear, monotone and strongly translatable operators, in this paper we obtain quantitative estimates in terms of the second order and third order moduli of smoothness, in Korovkin type theorems. Applications to concrete examples are included and an open question concerning interpolation theory for sublinear, monotone and strongly translatable operators is raised.
This is a survey of recent results about bipotentials representing multivalued operators. The notion of bipotential is based on an extension of Fenchel's inequality, with several interesting applications related to non associated constitutive laws in non smooth mechanics, such as Coulomb frictional contact or non-associated Drucker-Prager model in plasticity. Relations betweeen bipotentials and Fitzpatrick functions are described. Selfdual lagrangians, introduced and studied by Ghoussoub, can be seen as bipotentials representing maximal monotone operators. We show that bipotentials can represe…
Finding a zero of the sum of two monotone operators is one of the most important problems in monotone operator theory, and the forward-backward algorithm is the most prominent approach for solving this type of problem. The aim of this paper is to present a new preconditioning forward-backward algorithm to obtain the zero of the sum of two operators in which one is maximal monoton and the other one is M-cocoercive, where M is a linear bounded operator. Furthermore, the strong convergence of the proposed algorithm, which is a broader variant of previously known algorithms, has been proven in Hil…
We show the temperature dependence such as smoothness and monotone decreasingness with respect to the temperature of the solution to the BCS-Bogoliubov gap equation for superconductivity. Here the temperature belongs to the closed interval $[0,\, τ]$ with $τ>0$ nearly equal to half of the transition temperature. We show that the solution is continuous with respect to both the temperature and the energy, and that the solution is Lipschitz continuous and monotone decreasing with respect to the temperature. Moreover, we show that the solution is partially differentiable with respect to the temper…
We investigate the convergence rates of the trajectories generated by implicit first and second order dynamical systems associated to the determination of the zeros of the sum of a maximally monotone operator and a monotone and Lipschitz continuous one in a real Hilbert space. We show that these trajectories strongly converge with exponential rate to a zero of the sum, provided the latter is strongly monotone. We derive from here convergence rates for the trajectories generated by dynamical systems associated to the minimization of the sum of a proper, convex and lower semicontinuous function …
We deal with monotone inclusion problems of the form $0\in Ax+Dx+N_C(x)$ in real Hilbert spaces, where $A$ is a maximally monotone operator, $D$ a cocoercive operator and $C$ the nonempty set of zeros of another cocoercive operator. We propose a forward-backward penalty algorithm for solving this problem which extends the one proposed by H. Attouch, M.-O. Czarnecki and J. Peypouquet in [3]. The condition which guarantees the weak ergodic convergence of the sequence of iterates generated by the proposed scheme is formulated by means of the Fitzpatrick function associated to the maximally monoto…
We begin by considering second order dynamical systems of the from $\ddot x(t) + γ(t)\dot x(t) + λ(t)B(x(t))=0$, where $B: {\cal H}\rightarrow{\cal H}$ is a cocoercive operator defined on a real Hilbert space ${\cal H}$, $λ:[0,+\infty)\rightarrow [0,+\infty)$ is a relaxation function and $γ:[0,+\infty)\rightarrow [0,+\infty)$ a damping function, both depending on time. For the generated trajectories, we show existence and uniqueness of the generated trajectories as well as their weak asymptotic convergence to a zero of the operator $B$. The framework allows to address from similar perspectives…
