We study a factorization of bounded linear maps from an operator space $A$ to its dual space $A^*$. It is shown that $T : A \longrightarrow A^*$ factors through a pair of a column Hilbert spaces $\mathcal{H}_c$ and its dual space if and only if $T$ is a bounded linear form on $A \otimes A$ by the canonical identification equipped with a numerical radius type Haagerup norm. As a consequence, we characterize a bounded linear map from a Banach space to its dual space, which factors through a pair of Hilbert spaces.
Given a subfactor planar algebra P and a Hilbert P-module of lowest weight 0 we build a bimodule over the symmetric enveloping inclusion associated to P. As an application we prove diagrammatically that the Temperley-Lieb-Jones standard invariants have the Haagerup property. This provides a new proof of a result due to Popa and Vaes.
By computing the completely bounded norm of the flip map on the Haagerup tensor product $C_0 Y_1\otimes_{C_0 X} C_0 Y_2$ associated to a pair of continuous mappings of locally compact Hausdorff spaces $Y_1\rightarrow X\leftarrow Y_2$, we establish a simple characterisation of the Beck-Chevalley condition for base change of operator modules over commutative $C^*$-algebras, and a descent theorem for continuous fields of Hilbert spaces.
We generalize module weak-* Haagerup tensor products to obtain complete quotients of normal Haagerup tensor product included in canonical Hilbert spaces associated to completely positive normal (covariance) maps $η$ on a finite von Neumann algebra $B$. We construct in this way dual operator spaces, providing new examples even in the case of module extended Haagerup tensor products. This is the basis for defining a matrix normed algebra of analytic functions that captures the relations of free semicircular variables with covariance $η$. We prove that a class of non-commutative random variables …
Let $M$ be a finite von Neumann algebra (resp. a type II$_{1}$ factor) and let $N\subset M$ be a II$_{1}$ factor (resp. $N\subset M$ have an atomic part). We prove that the inclusion $N\subset M$ is amenable implies the identity map on $M$ has an approximate factorization through $M_m(\mathbb{C})\otimes N $ via trace preserving normal unital completely positive maps, which is a generalization of a result of Haagerup. We also prove two permanence properties for amenable inclusions. One is weak Haagerup property, the other is weak exactness.
We initiate the study of a new notion of duality defined with respect to the module Haagerup tensor product. This notion not only recovers the standard operator space dual for Hilbert $C^*$-modules, it also captures quantum group duality in a fundamental way. We compute the so-called Haagerup dual for various operator algebras arising from $\ell^p$ spaces. In particular, we show that the dual of $\ell^1$ under any operator space structure is $\min\ell^\infty$. In the setting of abstract harmonic analysis we generalize a result of Varopolous by showing that $C(\mathbb{G})$ is an operator algebr…
We show that the gluing construction for Hilbert modules introduced by Raeburn in his computation of the Picard group of a continuous-trace C*-algebra (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., 1981) can be applied to arbitrary C*-algebras, via an algebraic argument with the Haagerup tensor product. We put this result into the context of descent theory by identifying categories of gluing data for Hilbert modules over C*-algebras with categories of comodules over C*-coalgebras, giving a Hilbert-module version of a standard construction from algebraic geometry. As a consequence we show that if two C*-algebras ha…
We show that two operator algebras are strongly Morita equivalent (in the sense of Blecher, Muhly and Paulsen) if and only if their categories of operator modules are equivalent via completely contractive functors. Moreover, any such functor is completely isometrically isomorphic to the Haagerup tensor product (= interior tensor product) with a strong Morita equivalence bimodule.
A notion of super operator system is defined which generalizes the usual notion of operator systems to include certain unital involutive operator spaces which cannot be represented completely isometric as a concrete operator system on some Hilbert space. They can nevertheless be represented by bounded operators on a standard Z_2-graded Hilbert space equipped with a superinvolution. We apply this theory to investigate on the relation between certain tensor products defined for operator spaces and C^*-algebras, such as the projective tensor product, the Haagerup tensor product and the maximal C^…
The extended Cuntz-Pimsner algebra E(H), introduced by Pimsner, is constructed from a Hilbert B,B-bimodule H over a C*-algebra B. In this paper we investigate the Haagerup invariant Λ(.) for these algebras, the main result being that Λ(E(H))=Λ(B) when H is full over B. In particular, E(H) has the completely bounded approximation property if and only if the same is true for B.
In this paper we investigate operator Hilbert systems and their separable morphisms. We prove that the operator Hilbert space of Pisier is an operator system, which possesses the self-duality property. It is established a link between unital positive maps and Pietch factorizations, which allows us to describe all separable morphisms from an abelian C*-algebra to an operator Hilbert system. Finally, we prove a key property of entanglement breaking maps that involves operator Hilbert systems.
If $H$ is a lattice in a locally compact second countable group $G$, then we show that $G$ has property A (respectively is coarsely embeddable into Hilbert space) if and only if $H$ has property A (respectively is coarsely embeddable into Hilbert space). Moreover, we show three interesting generalizations of this result. If $H$ is a closed subgroup of $G$ that is co-amenable in $G$, and if $H$ has property A (respectively, is coarsely embeddable into Hilbert space), then we show that $G$ has property A (respectively, is coarsely embeddable into Hilbert space). We also show that an extension of…
Motivated from the theory of Hilbert-Schmidt morphisms between Hilbert C*-modules over commutative C*-algebras by Stern and van Suijlekom \textit{[J. Funct. Anal., 2021]}, we introduce the notion of p-absolutely summing morphisms between Hilbert C*-modules over commutative C*-algebras. We show that an adjointable morphism between Hilbert C*-modules over monotone closed commutative C*-algebra is 2-absolutely summing if and only if it is Hilbert-Schmidt. We formulate version of Pietsch factorization problem for p-absolutely summing morphisms and solve partially

Let $(M,Γ)$ be a Hopf--von Neumann algebra, so that $M_\ast$ is a completely contractive Banach algebra. We investigate whether the product of two elements of $M$ that are both weakly almost periodic functionals on $M_\ast$ is again weakly almost periodic. For that purpose, we establish the following factorization result: If $M$ and $N$ are injective von Neumann algebras, and if $x, y \in M \bar{\otimes} N$ correspond to weakly compact operators from $M_\ast$ to $N$ factoring through reflexive operator spaces $X$ and $Y$, respectively, then the operator corresponding to $xy$ factors through th…
The paper discusses a series of results concerning reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, related to the factorization of their kernels. In particular, it is proved that for a large class of spaces isometric multipliers are trivial. One also gives for certain spaces conditions for obtaining a particular type of dilation, as well as a classification of Brehmer type submodules.
In this work, we investigate the existence of a factorization for a unital completely positive map, between non-commutative probability space which do not change the expectation values of the events. These maps are called in literature stochastic maps. Using the Stinespring representations of completely positive map and assuming the existence of anti-unitary operator on Hilbert space related to these representations which satisfying some modular relations, we prove that stochastic maps with adjoint, admits a factorization.
Inspired by the Douglas lemma, we investigate the solvability of the operator equation $AX=C$ in the framework of Hilbert C*-modules. Utilizing partial isometries, we present its general solution when $A$ is a semi-regular operator. For such an operator $A$, we show that the equation $AX=C$ has a positive solution if and only if the range inclusion ${\mathcal R}(C) \subseteq {\mathcal R}(A)$ holds and $CC^*\le t\, CA^*$ for some $t>0$. In addition, we deal with the solvability of the operator equation $(P+Q)^{1/2}X=P$, where $P$ and $Q$ are projections. We provide a counterexample to show that…
We present a Hilbert space approach to the limit joint *-distributions of complex independent Gaussian random matrices. For that purpose, we use a suitably defined family of creation and annihilation operators living in some direct integral of Hilbert spaces. These operators are decomposed in terms of continuous circular systems of operators acting between the fibers of the considered Hilbert space direct integral. In the case of square matrices with i.i.d. entries, we obtain the circular operators of Voiculescu, whereas in the case of upper-triangular matrices with i.i.d. entries, we obtain t…
We give a new formulation of some of our recent results on the following problem: if all uniformly bounded representations on a discrete group $G$ are similar to unitary ones, is the group amenable? In §5, we give a new proof of Haagerup's theorem that, on non-commutative free groups, there are Herz-Schur multipliers that are not coefficients of uniformly bounded representations. We actually prove a refinement of this result involving a generalization of the class of Herz-Schur multipliers, namely the class $M_d(G)$ which is formed of all the functions $f\colon G\to {\bb C}$ such that there ar…
Given Hilbert spaces $H_1,H_2,H_3$, we consider bilinear maps defined on the cartesian product $S^2(H_2,H_3)\times S^2(H_1,H_2)$ of spaces of Hilbert-Schmidt operators and valued in either the space $B(H_1,H_3)$ of bounded operators, or in the space $S^1(H_1,H_3)$ of trace class operators. We introduce modular properties of such maps with respect to the commutants of von Neumann algebras $M_i\subset B(H_i)$, $i=1,2,3$, as well as an appropriate notion of complete boundedness for such maps. We characterize completely bounded module maps $u\colon S^2(H_2,H_3)\times S^2(H_1,H_2)\to B(H_1,H_3)$ by…
Let $Γ$ be a countable discrete group, and let $π\colon Γ\to {\rm{GL}}(H)$ be a representation of $Γ$ by invertible operators on a separable Hilbert space $H$. We show that the semidirect product group $G=H\rtimes_πΓ$ is SIN ($G$ admits a two-sided invariant metric compatible with its topology) and unitarily representable ($G$ embeds into the unitary group $\mathcal{U}(\ell^2(\mathbb N))$), if and only if $π$ is uniformly bounded, and that $π$ is unitarizable if and only if $G$ is of finite type: that is, $G$ embeds into the unitary group of a II$_1$-factor. Consequently, we show that a unitar…
The celebrated theorem of Berger, Coburn and Lebow on pairs of commuting isometries can be formulated as follows: a pure isometry $V$ on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ is a product of two commuting isometries $V_1$ and $V_2$ in $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{H})$ if and only if there exists a Hilbert space $\mathcal{E}$, a unitary $U$ in $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{E})$ and an orthogonal projection $P$ in $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{E})$ such that $(V, V_1, V_2)$ and $(M_z, M_Φ, M_Ψ)$ on $H^2_{\mathcal{E}}(\mathbb{D})$ are unitarily equivalent, where \[ Φ(z)=(P+zP^{\perp})U^*\;\text{and}\; Ψ(z)=U(P^{\perp}+zP) \;;(…
We explicitly construct and study an isometry between the spaces of square integrable functionals of an arbitrary Levy process and a vector-valued Gaussian white noise. In particular, we obtain explicit formulas for this isometry at the level of multiplicative functionals and at the level of orthogonal decompositions, as well as find its kernel. We consider in detail the central special case: the isometry between the $L^2$ spaces over a Poisson process and the corresponding white noise. The key role in our considerations is played by the notion of measure and Hilbert factorizations and related…
If $\fA$ is a unital weak-$*$ closed algebra of multiplication operators on a reproducing kernel Hilbert space which has the property $\bA_1(1)$, then the cyclic invariant subspaces index a Nevanlinna-Pick family of kernels. This yields an NP interpolation theorem for a wide class of algebras. In particular, it applies to many function spaces over the unit disk including Bergman space. We also show that the multiplier algebra of a complete NP space has $\bA_1(1)$, and thus this result applies to all of its subalgebras. A matrix version of this result is also established. It applies, in particu…
We introduce the notion of characteristic functions for commuting tuples of hypercontractions on Hilbert spaces, as a generalization of the notion of Sz.-Nagy and Foias characteristic functions of contractions. We present an explicit method to compute characteristic functions of hypercontractions and relate characteristic functions by means of the factors of Schur-Agler class of functions and universal multipliers on the unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^n$. We also offer some factorization properties of multipliers. Characteristic functions of hypercontrctions are complete unitary invariant. The Drury…
