Rational Curves on Coindex 3 Fano Varieties
本文研究光滑余指标3 Fano簇上有理曲线的模空间结构，证明高维情形下每个有效数值类对应单个不可约分支，并利用Fujita的$a$-不变量刻画四维情形，从而验证几何Manin猜想。
Let $X$ be a Gorenstein canonical Fano variety of coindex $4$ and dimension $n$ with $H$ fundamental divisor. Assume $h^0(X, H) \geq n -2$. We prove that a general element of the linear system $|mH|$ has at worst canonical singularities for any integer $m \geq 1$. When $X$ has terminal singularities and $n \geq 5$, we show that a general element of $|mH|$ has at worst terminal singularities for any integer $m \geq 1$. When $n=4$, we give an example of Gorenstein terminal Fano fourfold $X$ such that a general element of $|H|$ does not have terminal singularities.
We prove that any Fano manifold of coindex three admitting nef tangent bundle is homogeneous.
We prove that the linear system $|-1/3K_X| on a non-singular Fano fivefold $X$ of index 3 contains an irreducible divisor with only canonical singularities.
We prove the existence of Fano ladders on weak log Fano varieties of coindex less than 4, as an application of adjunction and nonvanishing.
We solve the infinitesimal Torelli problem for $3$-dimensional quasi-smooth ${\mathbb{Q}}$-Fano hypersurfaces with at worst terminal singularities. We also find infinite chains of double coverings of increasing dimension which alternatively distribute themselves in examples and counterexamples for the infinitesimal Torelli claim and which share the analogue, and in some cases the same, Hodge-diagram properties as the length $3$ Gushel-Mukai chain of prime smooth Fanos of coindex $3$ and degree $10$.
In this paper, we consider a natural question how many minimal rational curves are needed to join two general points on a Fano manifold X of Picard number 1. In particular, we study the minimal length of such chains in the cases where the dimension of X is at most 5, the coindex of X is at most 3 and X equips with a structure of a double cover. As an application, we give a better bound on the degree of Fano 5-folds of Picard number 1.
Hilbert curves of special varieties like Fano manifolds of low coindex as well as fibrations having such a manifold as general fiber, endowed with appropriate polarizations, are investigated. In particular, all most relevant varieties arising in adjunction theory are characterized in terms of their Hilbert curves.
Mukai varieties are Fano varieties of Picard number one and coindex three. In genus seven to ten they are linear sections of some special homogeneous varieties. We describe the generic automorphism groups of these varieties. When they are expected to be trivial for dimensional reasons, we show they are indeed trivial, up to three interesting and unexpected exceptions in genera 7, 8, 9, and codimension 4, 3, 2 respectively. We conclude in particular that a generic prime Fano threefold of genus g has no automorphisms for 7 $\le$ g $\le$ 10. In the Appendix by Y. Prokhorov, the latter statement i…
We study a wide class of affine varieties, which we call affine Fano varieties. By analogy with birationally super-rigid Fano varieties, we define super-rigidity for affine Fano varieties, and provide many examples and non-examples of super-rigid affine Fano varieties.
We prove a more general and precise version of the Noether-Fano inequalities for birational maps between Mori fiber spaces. This is applied to give descriptions of global canonical thresholds on Fano varieties of Picard number one.
Varieties of Fano type are very well behaved with respect to MMP, and they are known to be rationally connected. We study the relation between classes of rationally connected varieties and varieties of Fano type. We give examples of rationally connected varieties of dimension $\geqslant 3$ which are not birationally equivalent to Fano type varieties, thereby answering the question of Cascini and Gongyo.
This paper is a survey about cylinders in Fano varieties and related problems.

We overview some recent results on Fano varieties giving evidence of their rigid nature under small deformations.
We give sufficient conditions for the semisimplicity of quantum cohomology of Fano varieties of Picard rank 1. We apply these techniques to prove new semisimplicity results for some Fano varieties of Picard rank 1 and large index. We also give examples of Fano varieties having a non semisimple small quantum cohomology but a semisimple big quantum cohomology.
We prove a conjecture of L.Bonavero, C. Casagrande, O. Debarre and S. Druel, on the pseudo-index of smooth Fano varieties, in the special case of horospherical varieties.
The symmetric projective varieties of rank one are all smooth and Fano by a classic result of Akhiezer. We classify the locally factorial (respectively smooth) projective symmetric $G$-varieties of rank 2 which are Fano. When $G$ is semisimple we classify also the locally factorial (respectively smooth) projective symmetric $G$-varieties of rank 2 which are only quasi-Fano. Moreover, we classify the Fano symmetric $G$-varieties of rank 3 obtainable from a wonderful variety by a sequence of blow-ups along $G$-stable varieties. Finally, we classify the Fano symmetric varieties of arbitrary rank …
We give a survey of the recent progress on the study of K-stability of Fano varieties by an algebro-geometric approach.
A characterization of Fano type varieties

We give examples of Fano varieties $X$ with Picard number 1, which have terminal singularities and admit endomorphisms with degree larger than 1.
We prove the birational boundedness of Q-Fano varieties with Picard number one and dimension $n$ for every $n$. We do not use Mori theory.
We prove divisorial canonicity of Fano hypersurfaces and double spaces of general position with elementary singularities.
In this paper, we obtain a complete classification of smooth toric Fano varieties equipped with extremal contractions which contract divisors to curves for any dimension. As an application, we obtain a complete classification of smooth projective toric varieties which can be equivariantly blown-up to Fano along curves.
We give a simple necessary and sufficient condition for uniform K-stability of $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano varieties.
In this article we give the definitions of log Fano varieties and log Calabi-Yau varieties in the framework of theory of log schemes of Fontain-Illusie-Kato and give congruences of the cardinalities of rational points of them over the log points of finite fields.
We classify the polarized symplectic automorphisms of Fano varieties of smooth cubic fourfolds (equipped with the Plücker polarization) and study the fixed loci.
Generalizing the notions of reflexive polytopes and nef-partitions of Batyrev and Borisov, we propose a mirror symmetry construction for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in Fano toric varieties.
Fano varieties are 'atomic pieces' of algebraic varieties, the shapes that can be defined by polynomial equations. We describe the role of computation and database methods in the construction and classification of Fano varieties, with an emphasis on three-dimensional Fano varieties with mild singularities called Q-Fano threefolds. The classification of Q-Fano threefolds has been open for several decades, but there has been significant recent progress. These advances combine computational algebraic geometry and large-scale data analysis with new ideas that originated in theoretical physics.
In this paper we classify mildly singular Fano varieties with maximal Picard number whose effective divisors are numerically eventually free.
We observe a method for finding weak Landau-Ginzburg models for Fano varieties and find them for smooth Fano threefolds of genera 9, 10, and 12.
Given a natural number $l$ and a weak Fano $n$-fold $X$ with $\operatorname{dim}\overline{φ_{-lK_X}(X)}\geq n-1$, we study the lower bound of the anti-canonical volume and the upper bound of the anti-canonical stability index. The method can also be used to give similar bounds for polarised Calabi-Yau varieties.
This is a survey paper about a selection of recent results on the geometry of a special class of Fano varieties, which are called of K3 type. The focus is mostly Hodge-theoretical, with an eye towards the multiple connections between Fano varieties of K3 type and hyperkähler geometry.
We show that the Picard rank is constant in families of Fano varieties (in arbitrary characteristic) and we moreover investigate the constancy of the index.
We prove results about 1-cycles on certain Fano varieties using techniques that rely on rational curves. Firstly, we show that Fano weighted complete intersections with index bigger than half their dimension have trivial first Griffiths group. Secondly, we prove that the first Chow group of most $2$-Fano weighted complete intersections, and of $2$-Fano conic-connected varieties in $\mathbb{P}^n$ of high enough index (with $3$ obvious exceptions), are generated by lines. Furthermore, if the Fano variety of lines is irreducible, the first Chow group is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}$.
We construct several new families of Fano varieties of K3 type. We give a geometrical explanation of the K3 structure and we link some of them to projective families of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds.
In this note we collect some results on the deformation theory of toric Fano varieties.
We classify mildly singular Fano varieties $X$ such that $\mathrm{Nef}(X)=\mathrm{Psef}(X)$ and that the Picard number of $X$ is equal to the dimension of $X$ minus $1$.
We show that the set of Fano varieties (with arbitrary singularities) whose anticanonical divisors have large Seshadri constants satisfies certain weak and birational boundedness. We also classify singular Fano varieties of dimension $n$ whose anticanonical divisors have Seshadri constants at least $n$, generalizing an earlier result of Liu and the author.
This note is about cycle-theoretic properties of the Fano variety of lines on a smooth cubic fivefold. The arguments are based on the fact that this Fano variety has finite-dimensional motive. We also present some results concerning Chow groups of Fano varieties of lines on certain cubics in other dimensions.
We explain a web of Sarkisov links that overlies the classification of Fano weighted projective spaces in dimensions 3 and 4, extending results of Prokhorov.
Conjecturally, Fano varieties of K3 type admit a multiplicative Chow-Künneth decomposition, in the sense of Shen-Vial. We prove this for many of the families of Fano varieties of K3 type constructed by Fatighenti-Mongardi. This has interesting consequences for the Chow ring of these varieties.
We study global log canonical thresholds on anticanonically embedded quasismooth weighted Fano threefold hypersurfaces having terminal quotient singularities to prove the existence of a Kahler-Einstein metric on most of them, and to produce examples of Fano varieties with infinite discrete groups of birational automorphisms.

We study the anti-canonical ring of a projective variety and we characterise varieties of log Fano type depending on the singularities of these models.
We obtain a combinatorial description of Gorenstein spherical Fano varieties in terms of certain polytopes, generalizing the combinatorial description of Gorenstein toric Fano varieties by reflexive polytopes and its extension to Gorenstein horospherical Fano varieties due to Pasquier. Using this description, we show that the rank of the Picard group of an arbitrary $d$-dimensional $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial Gorenstein spherical Fano variety is bounded by $2d$. This paper also contains an overview of the description of the natural representative of the anticanonical divisor class of a spherical va…
We complete the study of birational geometry of Fano fiber spaces $π\colon V\to {\mathbb P}^1$, the fiber of which is a Fano double hypersurface of index 1. For each family of these varieties we either prove birational rigidity or produce explicitly non-trivial structures of Fano fiber spaces. A new linear method of studying movable systems on Fano fiber spaces $V/{\mathbb P}^1$ is developed.
The purpose of this paper is to give basic tools for the classification of nonsingular toric Fano varieties by means of the notions of primitive collections and primitive relations due to Batyrev. By using them we can easily deal with equivariant blow-ups and blow-downs, and get an easy criterion to determine whether a given nonsingular toric variety is a Fano variety or not. As applications of these results, we get a toric version of a theorem of Mori, and can classify, in principle, all nonsingular toric Fano varieties obtained from a given nonsingular toric Fano variety by finite succession…
Fano varieties are subvarieties of the Grassmannian whose points parametrize linear subspaces contained in a given projective variety. These expository notes give an account of results on Fano varieties of complete intersections, with a view toward an application in machine learning. The prerequisites have been kept to a minimum in order to make these results accessible to a broad audience.

We present some applications of the deformation theory of toric Fano varieties to K-(semi/poly)stability of Fano varieties. First, we present two examples of K-polystable toric Fano 3-fold with obstructed deformations. In one case, the K-moduli spaces and stacks are reducible near the closed point associated to the toric Fano 3-fold, while in the other they are non-reduced near the closed point associated to the toric Fano 3-fold. Second, we study K-stability of the general members of two deformation families of smooth Fano 3-folds by building degenerations to K-polystable toric Fano 3-folds.
Fatighenti and Mongardi have defined Fano varieties of type S6 as zero loci of a certain vector bundle on the Grassmannian $\hbox{Gr}(2,10)$. These varieties have 3 Hodge structures of K3 type in their cohomology. We show that the Chow ring of these varieties also displays "K3 type" behaviour.
We show that finitely generated Cox rings are Gorenstein. This leads to a refined characterization of varieties of Fano type: they are exactly those projective varieties with Gorenstein canonical quasicone Cox ring. We then show that for varieties of Fano type and Kawamata log terminal quasicones, iteration of Cox rings is finite with factorial master Cox ring. Moreover, we prove a relative version of Cox ring iteration for almost principal solvable $G$-bundles.
The purpose of the present paper is to generalize Sakai's work on anticanonical models of rational surfaces to varieties of Fano type. We first prove a characterization of Fano type varieties using the singularities of anticanonical models. Secondly, we study the decomposition of the anticanonical map using the $K_X$-minimal model program.

The regularity of a Fano variety, denoted by ${\rm reg}(X)$, is the largest dimension of the dual complex of a log Calabi--Yau structure on $X$. The coregularity is defined to be \[ {\rm coreg}(X):= \dim X - {\rm reg}(X)-1. \] The coregularity is the complementary dimension of the regularity. We expect that the coregularity of a Fano variety governs, to a large extent, the geometry of $X$. In this note, we review the history of Fano varieties, give some examples, survey some important theorems, introduce the coregularity, and propose several problems regarding this invariant of Fano varieties.
We exhibit full exceptional collections of vector bundles on any smooth, Fano arithmetic toric variety whose split fan is centrally symmetric.
The aim of this note is to settle some foundational questions about the behavior of birational rigidity in extensions of algebraically closed fields.
We study finite quotients of abelian varieties (fqav for short) i.e. quotients of abelian varieties by finite groups. We show that Q-abelian varieties (i.e. fqav's with $\mathbb Q$-linearly trivial canonical divisors) are characterized by the existence of quasiétale polarized (or int-amplified) endomorphisms. We show that every fqav has a finite quasiétale cover by the product of an abelian variety and a $\mathbb Q$-Fano fqav. Using such coverings, we give a characterization of $\mathbb Q$-Fano fqav's, and show that $\mathbb Q$-Fano fqav's and Q-abelian varieties are ``building blocks'' of gen…
In this paper, we give an affirmative answer to a conjecture in the Minimal Model Program. We prove that log $Q$-Fano varieties of dim $n$ are rationally connected. We also study the behavior of the canonical bundles under projective morphisms.
