We are interested in the life span and the asymptotic behaviour of the solutions to a system governing the motion of a pressureless gas, submitted to a strong, inhomogeneous magnetic field $ \e^{-1} B(x)$, of variable amplitude but fixed direction -- this is a first step in the direction of the study of rotating Euler equations. This leads to the study of a multi--dimensional Burgers type system on the velocity field $ u_\e$, penalized by a rotating term $ \e^{-1} u_\e \wedge B(x)$. We prove that the unique, smooth solution of this Burgers system exists on a uniform time interval $ [0,T]$. We also prove that the phase of oscillation of $ u_\e$ is an order one perturbation of the phase obtained in the case of a pure rotation (with no nonlinear transport term), $ \e^{-1}B(x)t$. Finally going back to the pressureless gas system, we obtain the asymptotics of the density as $ \e$ goes to zero.
We investigate the behavior of granular gases in the limit of small Knudsen number, that is very frequent collisions. We deal with the strongly inelastic case, in one dimension of space and velocity. We are able to prove the convergence toward the pressureless Euler system. The proof relies on dispersive relations at the kinetic level, which leads to the so-called Oleinik property at the limit.
We consider a pressureless hydrodynamic model of collective behaviour, which is concerned with a density function $ρ$ and a velocity field $v$ on the torus, and is described by the continuity equation for $ρ$, $\partial_t ρ+ \mathrm{div} (vρ)=0$, and a compressible hydrodynamic equation for $v$, $ρv_t + ρv\cdot \nabla v - Δv = -ρ\nabla K ρ$ with a forcing modelling collective behaviour related to the density $ρ$, where $K$ stands for the interaction potential, defined as the solution to the Poisson equation on $\mathbb{T}^d$. We show global-in-time stability of the ground state $(ρ, v)=(1,0)$ …
We present a new hydrodynamic model consisting of the pressureless Euler equations and the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations where the coupling of two systems is through the drag force. This coupled system can be derived, in the hydrodynamic limit, from the particle-fluid equations that are frequently used to study the medical sprays, aerosols and sedimentation problems. For the proposed system, we first construct the local-in-time classical solutions in an appropriate $L^2$ Sobolev space. We also establish the \emph{a priori} large-time behavior estimate by constructing a Lyapun…
We rigorously show a large friction limit of hydrodynamic models with alignment, attractive, and repulsive effects. More precisely, we consider pressureless Euler equations with nonlocal forces and provide a quantitative estimate of large friction limit to a continuity equation with nonlocal velocity fields, which is often called an aggregation equation. Our main strategy relies on the relative entropy argument combined with the estimate of $p$-Wasserstein distance between densities.
We demonstrate that the solutions to the Cauchy problem for the three dimensional incompressible magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) system can develop diferent types of norm inflations in $\dot{B}_{\infty}^{-1, \infty}$. Particularly the magnetic field can develop norm inflation in short time even when the velocity remains small and vice verse. Efforts are made to present a very expository development of the inginious construction of Bourgain and Pavlović for Navier-Stokes equation.
We obtain local well-posedness result for the generalized Hall-magneto-hydrodynamics system in Besov spaces ${\dot B^{-(2α_1-γ)}_{\infty, \infty}} \times {\dot B^{-(2α_2-β)}_{\infty,\infty}(\mathbb R^3)}$ with suitable indexes $α_1, α_2, β$ and $γ.$ As a corollary, the generalized electron magneto-hydrodynamics system is globally well-posed in ${\dot B^{-(2α_2-2)}}_{\infty, \infty}(\mathbb R^3)$ for small initial data.
Based on the Newton's second law and the Maxwell equations for the electromagnetic fields, we establish a new 3D incompressible magneto-hydrodynamics(MHD) equations for the motion of plasma under the standard Coulomb gauge. By using the Galerkin method, we prove a result on the existence of weak solutions for the new model.
We consider the three-dimensional incompressible magneto-hydrodynamic system with fractional powers of the Laplacian. We discover a wide range of spaces where the norm inflation occurs and hence small initial data results are out of reach. The norm inflation occurs not only in scaling invariant (critical) spaces, but also in supercritical, and, surprisingly, subcritical ones.
In this paper we deal with weak solutions to the Maxwell-Landau-Lifshitz equations and to the Hall-Magneto-Hydrodynamic equations. First we prove that these solutions satisfy some weak-strong uniqueness property. Then we investigate the validity of energy identities. In particular we give a sufficient condition on the regularity of weak solutions to rule out anomalous dissipation. In the case of the Hall-Magneto-Hydrodynamic equations we also give a sufficient condition to guarantee the magneto-helicity identity. Our conditions correspond to the same heuristic scaling as the one introduced by …
Using Littlewood-Paley theory, one formulates the determining wavenumbers for the Hall-MHD system, defined for each individual solution $(u,b)$. It is shown that the long time behaviour of strong solutions is almost finite dimensional as the wavenumbers are bounded in certain average senses.
We show that any smooth solution $(\mathbf{u},\mathbf{H})$ to the stationary equations of magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) belonging to both spaces $L^6 (\mathbb{R}^3)$ and $BMO^{-1}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ must be identically zero. This is an extension of previous results, all of which systematically required stronger integrability and the additional assumption $\nabla \mathbf{u}, \nabla \mathbf{H} \in L^2 (\mathbb{R}^3) $, i.e., finite Dirichlet integral.

In this paper, we prove that suitable weak solution $(u,b)$ of the 3-D MHD equations can be extended beyond $T$ if $u\in L^\infty(0,T;L^3(\R^3))$ and the horizontal components $b_h$ of the magnetic field satisfies the well-known Ladyzhenskaya-Prodi-Serrin condition.
We prove a sufficient conditions of local regularity of suitable weak solutions to the MHD system for the point from $C^3$-smooth part of the boundary. Our conditions are the generalizing of the Caffarelli--Kohn--Nirenberg theorem for Navier-Stokes equations.
This paper studies the regularity problem for the 3D incompress- ible resistive viscous Hall-magneto-hydrodynamic (Hall-MHD) system. The Kolmogorov 41 phenomenological theory of turbulence predicts that there exists a critical wavenumber above which the high frequency part is dominated by the dissipation term in the fluid equation. Inspired by this idea, we apply an approach of splitting the wavenumber combined with an estimate of the energy flux to obtain a new regularity criterion. The regularity condition presented here is weaker than conditions in the existing criteria (Prodi-Serrin type c…
We study the two-dimensional generalized magnetohydrodynamics-$α$ system with fractional Laplacians in the dissipative and diffusive terms. We show that the solution pair of velocity and magnetic fields preserves their initial regularity in all cases when the powers add up to one. This settles the global regularity issue in the general case which was remarked by the authors in [33] to be a problem.
We study the blow-up criterion of smooth solutions to the 3D MHD equations. By means of the Littlewood-Paley decomposition, we prove a Beale-Kato-Majda type blow-up criterion of smooth solutions via the vorticity of velocity only, i. e. $\sup_{j\in\Z}\int_0^T\|Δ_j(\na\times u)\|_\infty dt$, where $Δ_j$ is a frequency localization on $|ξ|\approx 2^j$.
In this paper, we consider suitable weak solutions of the four dimensional incompressible magneto-hydrodynamic equations. We give two different kind $\varepsilon$-regularity criteria. One only requires the smallness of scaling $L^{p,q}$ norm of $u$, another requires the smallness of scaling space time $L^2$ norm of $\nabla u$ and boundedness of scaling norm of $H$ or $\nabla H$. And as an application of the second kind criteria, we also prove that up to the boundary, the two-dimensional Hausdorff measure of the set of singular points is equal to zero.
We demonstrate that the three dimensional incompressible magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) system is ill-posed in the largest scaling invariant space $\dot{B}_{\infty,\infty}^{-1}$. The construction method of initial data used in this paper is different from the one in a previous work [DQS] of the author. Specifically, we construct initial data which has finite energy and is small enough in $H^s\cap \dot{B}_{\infty,\infty}^{-1}$, with $s<1/2$, such that any Leray-Hopf type of weak solution to the MHD system starting from this initial data is discontinuous at time $t=0$ in the metric of $\dot{B}_{\in…
We address the problem of controllability of the MHD system in a rectangular domain with a control prescribed on the side boundary. We identify a necessary and sufficient condition on the data to be null controllable, i.e., can be driven to the zero state. We also show that the validity of this condition allows the states to be stirred to each other. If the condition is not satisfied, one can move from one state to another with the help of a simple shear external magnetic force.
In this paper, we prove a sharp and strong non-uniqueness for a class of weak solutions to the three-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) system. More precisely, we show that any weak solution $(v,b)\in L^p_tL^{\infty}_x$ is non-unique in $L^p_tL^{\infty}_x$ with $1\le p<2$, which reveals the strong non-uniqueness, and the sharpness in terms of the classical Ladyzhenskaya-Prodi-Serrin criteria at endpoint $(2, \infty)$. Moreover, for any $1\le p<2$ and $ε>0$, we construct non-Leray-Hopf weak solutions in $L^p_tL^{\infty}_x\cap L^1_tC^{1-ε}$. The results of Navier-Stokes equations in \cite{1C…
This paper studies the asymptotic behavior of smooth solutions to the generalized Hall-magneto-hydrodynamics system (1.1) with one single diffusion on the whole space $\mathbb R^3$. We establish that, in the inviscid resistive case, the energy $\|b(t)\|_2^2$ vanishes and $\|u(t)\|_2^2$ converges to a constant as time tends to infinity provided the velocity is bounded in $W^{1-α,\frac3α}(\mathbb R^3)$; in the viscous non-resistive case, the energy $\|u(t)\|_2^2$ vanishes and $\|b(t)\|_2^2$ converges to a constant provided the magnetic field is bounded in $W^{1-β,\infty}(\mathbb R^3)$. In summar…
In this work we prove the existence and uniqueness of the strong solution to the two-dimensional stochastic magneto-hydrodynamic system perturbed by Levy noise. The local monotonicity arguments have been ex- ploited in the proofs. The existence of a unique invariant measures has been proved using the exponential stability of solutions.
We improve and extend some known regularity criterion of weak solution for the 3D viscous Magneto-hydrodynamics equations by means of the Fourier localization technique and Bony's para-product decomposition.
We demonstrate that the three dimensional incompressible magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) system is ill-posed due to the discontinuity of weak solutions in a wide range of spaces. Specifically, we construct initial data which has finite energy and is small in certain spaces, such that any Leray-Hopf type of weak solution to the MHD system starting from this initial data is discontinuous at time $t=0$ in such spaces. An analogous result is also obtained for the Navier-Stokes equation which extends the previous result of ill-posedness in $\dot B^{-1}_{\infty,\infty}$ by Cheskidov and Shvydkoy to spac…
Motivated by some models arising in quantum plasma dynamics, in this paper we study the Maxwell-Schrödinger system with a power-type nonlinearity. We show the local well-posedness in $H^2(\mathbb{R}^3)\times H^{3/2}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ and the global existence of finite energy weak solutions, these results are then applied to the analysis of finite energy weak solutions for Quantum Magnetohydrodynamic systems.
