This is a write-up of my talk at the Conference on algebraic structures in Montreal, July 2003. I try to give a brief informal introduction to the proof of Y. Ruan's conjecture on orbifold cohomology multiplication for symplectic quotient singularities given in V. Ginzburg and D. Kaledin, math.AG/0212279. Version 2: minor changes, added some references.
We consider the quotients $X = V/G$ of a symplectic complex vector space $V$ by a finite subgroup $G \subset Sp(V)$ which admit a smooth crepant resolution $Y \to X$. For such quotients, we prove the homological McKay correspondence conjectured by M. Reid. Namely, we construct a natural basis in the homology space $H_\cdot(Y,\Q)$ whose elements are numbered by the conjugacy classes in the finite group $G$.
When the quotient of a symplectic vector space by the action of a finite subgroup of symplectic automorphisms admits as a crepant projective resolution of singularities the Hilbert scheme of regular orbits of Nakamura, then there is a natural isomorphism between the Grothendieck group of this resolution and the representation ring of the group, given by the Bridgeland-King-Reid map. However, this isomorphism is not compatible with the ring structures. For the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane, we study the multiplicative behavior of this map.
Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional symplectic vector space over a field of characteristic 0, and let $G \subset Sp(V)$ be a finite subgroup. We prove that for any crepant resolution $X \to V/G$, the bounded derived category $D^b(Coh(X))$ of coherent sheaves on $X$ is equivalent to the bounded derived category $D^b_G(Coh(V))$ of $G$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $V$.
We revisit the classical two-dimensional McKay correspondence in two respects: The first one, which is the main point of this work, is that we take into account of the multiplicative structure given by the orbifold product; second, instead of using cohomology, we deal with the Chow motives. More precisely, we prove that for any smooth proper two-dimensional orbifold with projective coarse moduli space, there is an isomorphism of algebra objects, in the category of complex Chow motives, between the motive of the minimal resolution and the orbifold motive. In particular, the complex Chow ring (r…
The quotient of a finite-dimensional vector space by the action of a finite subgroup of automorphisms is usually a singular variety. Under appropriate assumptions, the McKay correspondence relates the geometry of nice resolutions of singularities and the representations of the group. For the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane, we study how different correspondences (McKay, dual McKay and multiplicative McKay) are related to each other.
We prove the generalised McKay correspondence for isolated singularities using Floer theory. Given an isolated singularity \C^n/G for a finite subgroup G in SL(n,\C) and any crepant resolution Y, we prove that the rank of positive symplectic cohomology SH_+(Y) is the number of conjugacy classes of G, and that twice the age grading on conjugacy classes is the \Z-grading on SH_+(Y) by the Conley-Zehnder index. The generalised McKay correspondence follows as SH_+(Y) is naturally isomorphic to ordinary cohomology H(Y), due to a vanishing result for full symplectic cohomology. In the Appendix we co…
A Calabi-Yau orbifold is locally modeled on C^n/G where G is a finite subgroup of SL(n, C). In dimension n=3 a crepant resolution is given by Nakamura's G-Hilbert scheme. This crepant resolution has a description as a GIT/symplectic quotient. We use tools from global analysis to give a geometrical generalization of the McKay Correspondence to this case.
We revisit the construction of elliptic class given by Borisov and Libgober for singular algebraic varieties. Assuming torus action we adjust the theory to equivariant local situation. We study theta function identities having geometric origin. In the case of quotient singularities $\mathbb C^n/G$, where $G$ is a finite group the theta identities arise from McKay correspondence. The symplectic singularities are of special interest. The Du Val surface singularity $A_n$ leads to a remarkable formula.
We introduce a multiplicative version of complex-symplectic implosion in the case of $SL(n, \C)$. The universal multiplicative implosion for $SL(n, \C)$ is an affine variety and can be viewed as a nonreductive geometric invariant theory quotient. It carries a torus action. and reductions by this action give the Steinberg fibres of $SL(n, \C)$. We also explain how the real symplectic group-valued universal implosion introduced by Hurtubise, Jeffrey and Sjamaar may be identified inside this space.
We formulate a Crepant Resolution Correspondence for open Gromov-Witten invariants (OCRC) of toric Calabi-Yau orbifolds by viewing the open theories as sections of Givental's symplectic vector space and the correspondence as a linear map of Givental spaces which identifies them. We deduce a Bryan-Graber-type statement for disk invariants and extend it to arbitrary genus zero topologies in the Hard Lefschetz case. Upon leveraging Iritani's theory of integral structures to equivariant quantum cohomology, we conjecture a general form of the symplectomorphism entering the OCRC which arises from a …
We study the algebraic symplectic geometry of multiplicative quiver varieties, which are moduli spaces of representations of certain quiver algebras, introduced by Crawley-Boevey and Shaw, called multiplicative preprojective algebras. They are multiplicative analogues of Nakajima quiver varieties. They include character varieties of (open) Riemann surfaces fixing conjugacy class closures of the monodromies around punctures, when the quiver is "crab-shaped". We prove that, under suitable hypotheses on the dimension vector of the representations, or the conjugacy classes of monodromies in the ch…
Mark Haiman has reduced Macdonald positivity conjecture to a statement about geometry of the Hilbert scheme of points on the plane, and formulated a generalization of the conjectures where the symmetric group is replaced by the wreath product $S_n\ltimes (Z/r Z)^n$. He has proven the original conjecture by establishing the geometric statement about the Hilbert scheme, as a byproduct he obtained a derived equivalence between coherent sheaves on the Hilbert scheme and coherent sheaves on the orbifold quotient of ${\mathbb A}^{2n}$ by the symmetric group $S_n$. A short proof of a similar derived …
We construct a multiplicative spectral sequence converging to the symplectic cohomology ring of any affine variety $X$, with first page built out of topological invariants associated to strata of any fixed normal crossings compactification $(M,\mathbf{D})$ of $X$. We exhibit a broad class of pairs $(M,\mathbf{D})$ (characterized by the absence of relative holomorphic spheres or vanishing of certain relative GW invariants) for which the spectral sequence degenerates, and a broad subclass of pairs (similarly characterized) for which the ring structure on symplectic cohomology can also be describ…
In this paper we study a restricted family of holomorphic symplectic leaves in the Poisson-Lie group ${\rm GL}_r(\mathcal{K}_{\mathbb{P}^1_x})$ with rational quadratic Sklyanin brackets induced by a one-form with a single quadratic pole at $\infty \in \mathbb{P}_{1}$. The restriction of the family is that the matrix elements in the defining representation are linear functions of $x$. We study how the symplectic leaves in this family are obtained by the fusion of certain fundamental symplectic leaves. These symplectic leaves arise as minimal examples of (i) moduli spaces of multiplicative Higgs…
We define a class of transversal slices in spaces which are quasi-Poisson for the action of a complex semisimple group G. This is a multiplicative analogue of Whittaker reduction. One example is the multiplicative universal centralizer of G, which is equipped with the usual symplectic structure in this way. We construct a smooth relative compactification by taking the closure of each centralizer fiber in the wonderful compactification of G. By realizing this partial compactification as a transversal in a larger quasi-Poisson variety, we show that it is smooth and log-symplectic.
Let V be a symplectic vector space and LG be the Lagrangian Grassmannian which parametrizes maximal isotropic subspaces in V. We give a presentation for the (small) quantum cohomology ring QH^*(LG) and show that its multiplicative structure is determined by the ring of (Q^~)-polynomials. We formulate a "quantum Schubert calculus" which includes quantum Pieri and Giambelli formulas, as well as algorithms for computing the structure constants appearing in the quantum product of Schubert classes.
