We will study the resolution dimension of functorially finite subcategories. The subcategories with the resolution dimension zero correspond to ring epimorphisms, and rejective subcategories correspond to surjective ring morphisms. We will study a chain of rejective subcategories to construct modules with endomorphisms rings of finite global dimension. We apply these result to study a function $r_Λ:\modΛ\to\nnn_{\ge0}$ which is a natural extension of Auslander's representation dimension.
Ringel's right-strongly quasi-hereditary algebras are a distinguished class of quasi-hereditary algebras of Cline-Parshall-Scott. We give characterizations of these algebras in terms of heredity chains and right rejective subcategories. We prove that any artin algebra of global dimension at most two is right-strongly quasi-hereditary. Moreover we show that the Auslander algebra of a representation-finite algebra $A$ is strongly quasi-hereditary if and only if $A$ is a Nakayama algebra.
The Gabriel-Roiter measure is used to give an alternative proof of the finiteness of the representation dimension for Artin algebras, a result established by Iyama in 2002. The concept of Gabriel-Roiter measure can be extended to abelian length categories and every such category has multiple Gabriel-Roiter measures. Using this notion, we prove the following broader statement: given any object $X$ and any Gabriel-Roiter measure $μ$ in an abelian length category $\mathcal{A}$, there exists an object $X'$ which depends on $X$ and $μ$, such that $Γ= \operatorname{End}_{\mathcal{A}}(X \oplus X')$ h…
From the viewpoint of higher homological algebra, we introduce pure semisimple $n$-abelian category, which is analogs of pure semisimple abelian category. Let $Λ$ be an Artin algebra and $\mathcal{M}$ be an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of $Mod$-$Λ$. We show that $\mathcal{M}$ is pure semisimple if and only if each module in $\mathcal{M}$ is a direct sum of finitely generated modules. Let $\mathfrak{m}$ be an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of $mod$-$Λ$. We show that $Add(\mathfrak{m})$ is an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of $Mod$-$Λ$ if and only if $\mathfrak{m}$ has an additive generator…
Let $A$ be an artinian algebra, and let $\mathcal{C}$ be a subcategory of mod$A$ that is closed under extensions. When $\mathcal{C}$ is closed under kernels of epimorphisms (or closed under cokernels of monomorphisms), we describe the smallest class of modules that filters $\mathcal{C}$. As a consequence, we obtain sufficient conditions for the finitistic dimension of an algebra over a field to be finite. We also apply our results to the torsion pairs. In particular, when a torsion pair is induced by a tilting module, we show that the smallest classes of modules that filter the torsion and tor…
An Artin algebra is by definition virtually Gorenstein if the class of modules which are right orthogonal (with respect to Ext^*(-,-)) to all Gorenstein projective modules coincides with the class of modules which are left orthogonal to all Gorenstein injective modules. We provide a new characterization in terms of finitely generated modules. In addition, an example of an algebra is presented which is not virtually Gorenstein.
In this paper we show that how the representation theory of subcategories (of the category of modules over an Artin algebra) can be connected to the representation theory of all modules over some algebra. The subcategories dealing with are some certain subcategories of the morphism categories (including submodule categories studied recently by Ringel and Schmidmeier) and of the Gorenstein projective modules over (relative) stable Auslander algebras. These two kinds of subcategories, as will be seen, are closely related to each other. To make such a connection, we will define a functor from eac…
Let $Λ$ be an Auslander's 1-Gorenstein Artinian algebra with global dimension two. If $Λ$ admits a trivial maximal 1-orthogonal subcategory of $\modΛ$, then for any indecomposable module $M \in \mod Λ$, we have that the projective dimension of $M$ is equal to one if and only if so is its injective dimension and that $M$ is injective if the projective dimension of $M$ is equal to two. In this case, we further get that $Λ$ is a tilted algebra.
We study the properties of rings satisfying Auslander-type conditions. If an artin algebra $Λ$ satisfies the Auslander condition (that is, $Λ$ is an $\infty$-Gorenstein artin algebra), then we construct two kinds of subcategories which form functorially finite cotorsion pairs.
For an Artinian $(n-1)$-Auslander algebra $Λ$ with global dimension $n(\geq 2)$, we show that if $Λ$ admits a trivial maximal $(n-1)$-orthogonal subcategory of $\modΛ$, then $Λ$ is a Nakayama algebra and the projective or injective dimension of any indecomposable module in $\modΛ$ is at most $n-1$. As a result, for an Artinian Auslander algebra with global dimension 2, if $Λ$ admits a trivial maximal 1-orthogonal subcategory of $\modΛ$, then $Λ$ is a tilted algebra of finite representation type. Further, for a finite-dimensional algebra $Λ$ over an algebraically closed field $K$, we show that …
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra. We are going to consider full subcategories of $\modΛ$ closed under finite direct sums and under submodules with infinitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable modules. The main result asserts that such a subcategory contains a minimal one and we exhibit some striking properties of these minimal subcategories. These results have to be considered as essential finiteness conditions for such module categories.
A relative version of Auslander's formula with respect to a contravariantly finite subcategory will be given. Dual version will be treated. Several examples and applications will be provided. In particular, we show that under certain circumstances, if relative Auslander algebras of artin algebras $Λ$ and $Λ'$ are Morita equivalent, then $Λ$ and $Λ'$ are also Morita equivalent.
Recently, Wang, Wei and Zhang introduced the notion of recollements of extriangulated categories. In this paper, let $(\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B},\mathcal{C})$ be a recollement of extriangulated categories. We provide some methods to construct resolving subcategories in $(\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B},\mathcal{C})$. As applications of the Auslander-Reiten correspondence, we get the gluing of cotilting modules in a recollement of module categories for artin algebras. We also give some bounds of resolution dimensions of the categories involved in $(\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B},\mathcal{C})$ with respect to re…
We consider abelian length categories, a generalization of module categories over Artin algebras. Let $\mathcal{A}$ be an abelian length category of colocal type. We show that the lattice $\mathsf{S}(\mathcal{A})$ of full additive subobject closed subcategories of $\mathcal{A}$ is distributive. Furthermore, we give a characterization of abelian length categories of colocal type. If $A$ is an algebra of colocal type over an algebraically closed field, then this characterization is especially simple and we can describe the lattice $\mathsf{S(mod} ~A)$ up to isomorphism.
A new proof of the classification for tensor ideal thick subcategories of the bounded derived category, and the stable category, of modular representations of a finite group is obtained. The arguments apply more generally to yield a classification of thick subcategories of the bounded derived category of an artinian complete intersection ring. One of the salient features of this work is that it takes no recourse to infinite constructions, unlike the previous proofs of these results.
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of ${\rm mod}\mbox{-}Λ$, where $Λ$ is an artin algebra. Let $\mathcal{S}(\mathcal{M})$ denotes the full subcategory of $\mathcal{S}(Λ)$, the submodule category of $Λ$, consisting of all monomorphisms in $\mathcal{M}$. We construct two functors from $\mathcal{S}(\mathcal{M})$ to ${\rm mod}\mbox{-}\underline{\mathcal{M}}$, the category of finitely presented (coherent) additive contravariant functors on the stable category of $\mathcal{M}$. We show that these functors are full, dense and objective. So they induce equivalences from the quotie…
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra. In this paper, the notion of $n\mathbb{Z}$-Gorenstein cluster tilting subcategories will be introduced. It is shown that every $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory of ${\rm{mod}}{\mbox{-}}Λ$ is $n\mathbb{Z}$-Gorenstein if and only if $Λ$ is an Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebra. Moreover, it will be shown that an $n\mathbb{Z}$-Gorenstein cluster tilting subcategory of ${\rm{mod}}{\mbox{-}}Λ$ is an $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory of the exact category ${\rm{Gprj}}{\mbox{-}}Λ$, the subcategory of all Gorenstein projective objects of ${\rm{mod}}{\mbox{-}}Λ$. So…
We study Morita rings $Λ_{(ϕ,ψ)}=\bigl({smallmatrix} A &_AN_B_BM_A & B {smallmatrix}\bigr)$ in the context of Artin algebras from various perspectives. First we study covariant finite, contravariant finite, and functorially finite subcategories of the module category of a Morita ring when the bimodule homomorphisms $ϕ$ and $ψ$ are zero. Further we give bounds for the global dimension of a Morita ring $Λ_{(0,0)}$, regarded as an Artin algebra, in terms of the global dimensions of $A$ and $B$ in the case when both $ϕ$ and $ψ$ are zero. We illustrate our bounds with some examples. Finally we inve…
We give an alternative proof to the fact that if the square of the infinite radical of the module category of an Artin algebra is equal to zero then the algebra is of finite type by making use of the theory of postprojective and preinjective partitions. Further, we use this new approach in order to get a characterization of finite subcategories of $Δ$-good modules of a quasi-hereditary algebra in terms of depth of morphisms similar to a recently obtained characterization of Artin algebras of finite type.
Auslander-Reiten duality for module categories is generalized to some sufficiently nice subcategories. In particular, our consideration works for $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}(Λ)$, the subcategory consisting of finitely generated modules with finite projective dimension over an artin algebra $Λ$, and also, the subcategory of Gorenstein projectove modules of $\rm{mod}\mbox{-}Λ$, denoted by $\rm{Gprj}\mbox{-}Λ$. In this paper, we give a method to compute the Auslander-Reiten translation in $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}(Λ)$ whenever $Λ$ is a $1$-Gorenstein algebra. In addition, we characterize when the Ausland…

This is a survey on the categorification of the poset of generalized non-crossing partitions, using the representation theory of a hereditary artin algebra H, looking at the set P of exceptional subcategories in mod H. This categorification is due to Ingalls and Thomas, and a subsequent paper by Igusa and Schiffler. Starting point is a refinement of the classical tilting theory for mod H, replacing torsion pairs by torsion triples, thus putting it into the realm of the stability theory of King. The torsion pairs in mod H correspond nicely to the perpendicular pairs of exceptional subcategories…
Inclusion preserving maps from modules over an Artin algebra to complete partially ordered sets are studied. This yields a filtration of the Ziegler spectrum which is indexed by all Gabriel-Roiter measures. Another application is a compactness result for the set of subcategories of finitely presented modules that are closed under submodules.
We study Auslander correspondence from the viewpoint of higher dimensional Auslander-Reiten theory on maximal orthogonal subcategories. We give homological characterizations of Auslander algebras, especially an answer to a question of M. Artin. They are also closely related to Auslander's representation dimension of artin algebras and Van den Bergh's non-commutative crepant resolutions of Gorenstein singularities.
Auslander and Ringel-Tachikawa have shown that for an artinian ring R of finite representation type, every R-module is the direct sum of finitely generated indecomposable R-modules. In this paper, we will adapt this result to finite representation type full subcategories of the module category of an artinian ring which are closed under subobjects and direct sums and contain all projective modules. In particular, the results in this paper hold for subspace representations of a poset, in case this subcategory is of finite representation type.
Auslander-Reiten theory is fundamental to study categories which appear in representation theory, for example, modules over artin algebras, Cohen-Macaulay modules over Cohen-Macaulay rings, lattices over orders, and coherent sheaves on projective curves. In these Auslander-Reiten theories, the number `2' is quite symbolic. For one thing, almost split sequences give minimal projective resolutions of simple functors of projective dimension `2'. For another, Cohen-Macaulay rings of Krull-dimension `2' provide us with one of the most beautiful situation in representation theory, which is closely r…
We consider hereditary Artin algebras over arbitrary fields and prove that there is a natural bijection between the Weyl groups and the sets of full additive cofinite submodule closed subcategories of the module categories. While Oppermann, Reiten and Thomas have shown this for algebraically closed fields and finite fields, we give a different method of proof that holds independently of the field. In particular, we show a relatively simple way to construct all modules that contain a given preinjective module as a submodule.
Given a finite acyclic quiver Q with path algebra kQ, Ingalls and Thomas have exhibited a bijection between the set of Morita equivalence classes of support-tilting modules and the set of thick subcategories of mod kQ and they have collected a large number of further bijections with these sets. We add some additional bijections and show that all these bijections hold for arbitrary hereditary artin algebras. The proofs presented here seem to be of interest also in the special case of the path algebra of a quiver.
