On simplicial and cubical complexes with short links

Every finite complex has the homology of some CAT(0) cubical duality group

We prove that every finite connected simplicial complex has the homology of the classifying space for some $\mathrm{CAT}(0)$ cubical duality group. More specifically, for any finite simplicial complex $X$, we construct a locally $\mathrm{CAT}(0)$ cubical complex $T_{X}$ and an acyclic map $t_{X} : T_{X} \to X$ such that $π_1(T_X)$ is a duality group.

A proof of Sageev's Theorem on hyperplanes in CAT(0) cubical complexes

We prove that a hyperplane in a CAT(0) cubical complex X has no self-intersections and separates X into two convex complementary components. These facts were originally proved by Sageev. Our argument shows that his theorem is a corollary of Gromov's link condition. We also give new arguments establishing some combinatorial properties of hyperplanes. We show that these properties are sufficient to prove that the 0-skeleton of any CAT(0) cubical complex is a discrete median algebra, a fact that has previously been proved by Chepoi, Gerasimov, and Roller.

CAT(0) cubical complexes for graph products of finitely generated abelian groups

We show that every graph product of finitely generated abelian groups acts properly and cocompactly on a CAT(0) cubical complex. The complex generalizes (up to subdivision) the Salvetti complex of a right-angled Artin group and the Coxeter complex of a right-angled Coxeter group. In the right-angled Artin group case it is related to the embedding into a right-angled Coxeter group described by Davis and Januszkiewicz. We compare the approaches and also adapt the argument that the action extends to finite index supergroup that is a graph product of finite groups.

simpcomp -- A GAP toolbox for simplicial complexes

simpcomp is an extension (a so called package) to GAP, the well known system for computational discrete algebra. The package enables the user to compute numerous properties of (abstract) simplicial complexes, provides functions to construct new complexes from existing ones and an extensive library of triangulations of manifolds.

Reconstructible graphs, simplicial flag complexes of homology manifolds and associated right-angled Coxeter groups

In this paper, we investigate a relation between finite graphs, simplicial flag complexes and right-angled Coxeter groups, and we provide a class of reconstructible finite graphs. We show that if $Γ$ is a finite graph which is the 1-skeleton of some simplicial flag complex $L$ which is a homology manifold of dimension $n \ge 1$, then the graph $Γ$ is reconstructible.

Hierarchically hyperbolic spaces I: curve complexes for cubical groups

In the context of CAT(0) cubical groups, we develop an analogue of the theory of curve complexes and subsurface projections. The role of the subsurfaces is played by a collection of convex subcomplexes called a \emph{factor system}, and the role of the curve graph is played by the \emph{contact graph}. Contact Graphs, Boundaries, and a Central Limit Theorem for CAT(0) cubical complexes

Let $X$ be a nonelementary CAT(0) cubical complex. We prove that if $X$ is essential and irreducible, then the contact graph of $X$ (introduced in \cite{Hagen}) is unbounded and its boundary is homeomorphic to the regular boundary of $X$ (defined in \cite{Fernos}, \cite{KarSageev}). Non-commutative Simplicial Complexes and the Baum-Connes Conjecture

We associate a non-commutative $C^*$-algebra with any locally finite simplicial complex. We determine the $K$-theory of these algebras and show that they can be used to obtain a conceptual explanation for the Baum-Connes conjecture.

Generating Simplicial Complexes

In the spirit of topological entropy we introduce new complexity functions for general dynamical systems (namely groups and semigroups acting on closed manifolds) but with an emphasis on the dynamics induced on simplicial complexes. For expansive systems remarkable properties are observed. Known examples are revisited and new examples are presented.
