In the spirit of topological entropy we introduce new complexity functions for general dynamical systems (namely groups and semigroups acting on closed manifolds) but with an emphasis on the dynamics induced on simplicial complexes. For expansive systems remarkable properties are observed. Known examples are revisited and new examples are presented.

Harmonic maps between ideal 2-dimensional simplicial complexes

We prove existence and regularity results for energy minimizing maps between ideal hyperbolic 2-dimensional simplicial complexes. The spaces in question were introduced by Charitos-Papadopoulos, who describe their Teichmüller spaces and some compactifications. This work is a first step in introducing harmonic map theory into the Teichmüller theory of these spaces.

We study metrics on two-dimensional simplicial complexes that are conformal either to flat Euclidean metrics or to the ideal hyperbolic metrics described by Charitos and Papadopoulos. Extending the results of our previous paper, we prove existence, uniqueness, and regularity results for harmonic maps between two such metrics on a complex.

The Ricci curvature on simplicial complexes

We define the Ricci curvature on simplicial complexes by modifying the definition of the Ricci curvature on graphs, and we prove the upper and lower bounds of the Ricci curvature. These properties are generalizations of previous studies. Moreover, we obtain an estimate of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian on simplicial complexes using the Ricci curvature.

Up and down grover walks on simplicial complexes

A notion of up and down Grover walks on simplicial complexes are proposed and their properties are investigated. These are abstract Szegedy walks, which is a special kind of unitary operators on a Hilbert space. The operators introduced in the present paper are usual Grover walks on graphs defined by using combinatorial structures of simplicial complexes. But the shift operators are modified so that it can contain information of orientations of each simplex in the simplicial complex. Moment-angle complexes and combinatorics of simplicial manifolds

Let $ρ:(D^2)^m\to I^m$ be the orbit map for the diagonal action of the torus $T^m$ on the unit poly-disk $(D^2)^m$, $I^m=[0,1]^m$ is the unit cube. Let $C$ be a cubical subcomplex in $I^m$. The moment-angle complex $\ma(C)$ is a $T^m$-invariant bigraded cellular decomposition of the subset $ρ^{-1}(C)\subset(D^2)^m$ with cells corresponding to the faces of $C$. The extremal symmetry of arithmetic simplicial complexes

Let $G$ be a higher-rank semisimple Lie group over a nonarchimedean local field, for example $G={\rm PGL}(n,Q_P)$. To any lattice $L$ in $G$ there is an associated simplicial complex $B_L$, given by the quotient by $L$ of the Bruhat-Tits building associated to $G$. In this paper prove that the simplicial structure $B_L$ exhibits some remarkable and extremal symmetry properties, in particular when compared to any other simplicial structure on (any cover of) $B_L$.
