Two Bessel sequences are orthogonal if the composition of the synthesis operator of one sequence with the analysis operator of the other sequence is the 0 operator. We characterize when two Bessel sequences are orthogonal when the Bessel sequences have the form of translates of a finite number of functions in $\ltwod$. The characterizations are applied to Bessel sequences which have an affine structure, and a quasi-affine structure. These also lead to characterizations of superframes. Moreover, we characterize perfect reconstruction, i.e. duality, of subspace frames for translation invariant (bandlimited) subspaces of $\ltwod$.
We study the properties based on the space generated by the translates of square integrable function using C-bracket on Vilenkin group. We give the necessary and sufficient condition for frame sequences by the family of translates of the function.
Motivated by Bownik and Speegle's result on linear independence of wavelet Parseval frames, we consider affine systems (analogous to wavelet systems) defined on a second countable, locally compact abelian group $G$, where the translations are replaced by the action of a countable, discrete subgroup $Γ$ of $ G$ acting as a group of unitary operators on $L^2(G)$. The dilation operation in the wavelet setting is replaced by integer powers of a unitary operator $δ$ onto $L^2(G)$. We show that, under some compatibility conditions between $δ$ and the action of the group $Γ$, the linear independence …
We study spanning properties of a family of functions translated along simple model sets. We characterize tight frame and dual frame generators for such irregular translates and we apply the results to Gabor systems. We use the connection between model sets and almost periodic functions and rely strongly on a Poisson summations formula for model sets to introduce the so-called bracket product, which then plays a crucial role in our approach. As a corollary to our main results we obtain a density statement for semi-regular Gabor frames.
A finitely generated shift invariant space $V$ is a closed subspace of $L^2(\R^d)$ that is generated by the integer translates of a finite number of functions. A set of frame generators for $V$ is a set of functions whose integer translates form a frame for $V$. In this note we give necessary and sufficient conditions in order that a minimal set of frame generators can be obtained by taking linear combinations of the given frame generators. Surprisingly the results are very different to the recently studied case when the property to be a frame is not required.
We prove that a sequence $(f_i)_{i=1}^\infty$ of translates of a fixed $f\in L_p(R)$ cannot be an unconditional basis of $L_p(R)$ for any $1\le p<\infty$. In contrast to this, for every $2<p<\infty$, $d\in N$ and unbounded sequence $(λ_n)_{n\in N}\subset R^d$ we establish the existence of a function $f\in L_p(R^d)$ and sequence $(g^*_n)_{n\in N}\subset L_p^*(R^d)$ such that $(T_{λ_n} f, g^*_n)_{n\in N}$ forms an unconditional Schauder frame for $L_p(R^d)$. In particular, there exists a Schauder frame of integer translates for $L_p(R)$ if (and only if) $2<p<\infty$.
We show that, for $1<p \le 2$, the space $L_p(\mathbb{R}^d)$ does not admit unconditional Schauder frames $\left\lbrace f_i,f_i'\right\rbrace_{i\in\mathbb{N}}$ where $\left\lbrace f_i\right\rbrace$ is a sequence of translates of finitely many functions and $\left\lbrace f_i'\right\rbrace$ is seminormalized. In fact, the only subspaces of $L_p(\mathbb{R}^d)$ admitting such Banach frames are those isomorphic to $\ell_p$. On the other hand, if $2<p<+\infty$ and $\left\lbrace λ_{i}\right\rbrace_{i\in\mathbb{N}}\subseteq \mathbb{R}^d$ is an unbounded sequence, there is a subsequence $\left\lbrace λ…
In this note, we fix a real invertible $d\times d$ matrix $\mathcal{A}$ and consider $\mathcal{A}\mathbb{Z}^d$ as an index set. For $f\in L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, let $Φ^{\mathcal{A}}_{f}:=\frac{1}{|\det \mathcal{A}|}\sum_{k\in \mathbb{Z}^d}|\hat{f}(\mathcal{A}^T)^{-1}(\cdot+k)|^2$ be the periodization of $|\hat{f}|^2$. By using $Φ^{\mathcal{A}}_{f}$, among other things, we characterize when the sequence $τ_{\mathcal{A}}(f):=\{f(\cdot-\mathcal{A}k)\}_{k\in \mathbb{Z}^d}$ is a Bessel sequence, frame of translates, Riesz basis, or orthonormal basis. And finally, we construct an example, in which $τ_{…
Frames of translates of f in L^2(G) are characterized in terms of the zero-set of the so-called spectral symbol of f in the setting of a locally compact abelian group G having a compact open subgroup H. We refer to such a G as a number theoretic group. This characterization was first proved in 1992 by Shidong Li and one of the authors for L^2(R^d) with the same formal statement of the characterization. For number theoretic groups, and these include local fields, the strategy of proof is necessarily entirely different; and it requires a new notion of translation that reduces to the usual defini…
In this paper, we characterize the system of left translates $\{L_{(2k,l,m)}g:k,l,m\in\mathbb{Z}\}$, $g\in L^2(\mathbb{H})$, to be a frame sequence or a \emph{Riesz} sequence in terms of the twisted translates of the corresponding function $g^λ$. Here, $(\mathbb{H}$ denotes the Heisenberg group and $g^λ$ the inverse Fourier transform of $g$ with respect to the central variable. This type of characterization for a \emph{Riesz} sequence allows us to find some concrete examples. We also study the structure of the oblique dual of the system of left translates $\{L_{(2k,l,m)}g:k,l,m\in\mathbb{Z}\}$…
Fusion frames have become a major tool in the implementation of distributed systems. The effectiveness of fusion frame applications in distributed systems is reflected in the efficiency of the end fusion process. This in turn is reflected in the efficiency of the inversion of the fusion frame operator $S_{\cW}$, which in turn is heavily dependent on the sparsity of $S_{\cW}$. We will show that sparsity of the fusion frame operator naturally exists by introducing a notion of {\it non-orthogonal fusion frames}. We show that for a fusion frame $\{W_i,v_i\}_{i\in I}$, if $\text{dim}(W_i)=k_i$, the…
For a given finitely generated shift invariant (FSI) subspace $\cW\subset L^2(\R^k)$ we obtain a simple criterion for the existence of shift generated (SG) Bessel sequences $E(\cF)$ induced by finite sequences of vectors $\cF\in \cW^n$ that have a prescribed fine structure i.e., such that the norms of the vectors in $\cF$ and the spectra of $S_{E(\cF)}$ is prescribed in each fiber of $\text{Spec}(\cW)\subset \T^k$. We complement this result by developing an analogue of the so-called sequences of eigensteps from finite frame theory in the context of SG Bessel sequences, that allows for a detail…
The space of complete orthonormal frames in Euclidean space is not path connected. In fact it has exactly two path components, containing respectively the coordinate frame of n standard coordinates and the frame with two coordinates reversed. The matrices corresponding to these frames have determinant one and minus one respectively. We wish to avoid the implement of the determinant function in many variables, and rather work with these compact spaces by means of fibrations and covering maps. The important fibrations are deletion of the final vector from the frame, and selection of the first ve…
Motivated by the recent work of Bownik and Ross \cite{BR}, and Jakobsen and Lemvig \cite{JL}, this article generalizes latest results on reproducing formulas for generalized translation invariant (GTI) systems to the setting of super-spaces over a second countable locally compact abelian (LCA) group $G$. To do so, we introduce the notion of a super-GTI system with finite sequences as generators from a super-space $L^2(G) \oplus \cdots \oplus L^2(G) $ ($N$ summands). We characterize the generators of two super-GTI systems in the super-space such that they form a super-dual frame pair. For this,…
In this paper we aim to generalize results obtained in the framework of fractional calculus by the way of reformulating them in terms of operator theory. In its own turn, the achieved generalization allows us to spread the obtained technique on practical problems that connected with various physical - chemical processes.
In this paper, an algorithm based on polyphase matrix for constructing a pair of orthogonal wavelet frames is suggested, and a general form for all orthogonal tight wavelet frames on local fields of positive characteristic is described. Moreover, we investigate their properties by means of the Fourier transform.
We investigate equiangular lines in finite orthogonal geometries, focusing specifically on equiangular tight frames (ETFs). In parallel with the known correspondence between real ETFs and strongly regular graphs (SRGs) that satisfy certain parameter constraints, we prove that ETFs in finite orthogonal geometries are closely aligned with a modular generalization of SRGs. The constraints in our finite field setting are weaker, and all but~18 known SRG parameters on $v \leq 1300$ vertices satisfy at least one of them. Applying our results to triangular graphs, we deduce that Gerzon's bound is att…
