We prove generalized Virasoro constraints for the relative Gromov-Witten theories of all nonsingular target curves. Descendents of the even cohomology classes are studied first by localization, degeneration, and completed cycle methods. Descendents of the odd cohomology are then controlled by monodromy and geometric vanishing relations. As an outcome of our results, the relative theories of target curves are completely and explicitly determined.
We formulate Virasoro constraints for the generating functions of the intersection numbers on Hassett's moduli of weighted pointed curves and show that they are governed by the KdV integrable hierarchy.
An algorithm to determine all the Gromov-Witten invariants of any smooth projective curve was obtained by Okounkov and Pandharipande in 2006. They identified stationary invariants with certain Hurwitz numbers and then presented Virasoro type constraints that allow to determine all the other Gromov-Witten invariants in terms of the stationary ones. In the case of an elliptic curve, we show that these Virasoro type constraints can be explicitly solved leading to a very explicit formula for the full Gromov-Witten potential in terms of the stationary invariants.
M.Kazarian and S.Lando found a 1-parametric interpolation between Kontsevich and Hurwitz partition functions, which entirely lies within the space of KP tau-functions. V.Bouchard and M.Marino suggested that this interpolation satisfies some deformed Virasoro constraints. However, they described the constraints in a somewhat sophisticated form of AMM-Eynard equations for the rather involved Lambert spectral curve. Here we present the relevant family of Virasoro constraints explicitly. They differ from the conventional continuous Virasoro constraints in the simplest possible way: by a constant s…
We describe a geometric theory of Virasoro constraints in generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies. Solutions of Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies are succinctly described by giving a principal bundle on a complex curve together with the data of a Higgs field near infinity. String solutions for these hierarchies are defined as points having a big stabilizer under a certain Lie algebra action. We characterize principal bundles coming from string solutions as those possessing connections compatible with the Higgs field near infinity. We show that tau-functions of string solutions satisfy second-order…
We analyse the consequences of the Virasoro conjecture of Eguchi, Hori and Xiong for Gromov-Witten invariants, in the case of zero degree maps to the manifolds CP^1 and CP^2 (or more generally, smooth projective curves and smooth simply-connected projective surfaces). We obtain predictions involving intersections of psi and lambda classes on the compactification of M_{g,n}. In particular, we show that the Virasoro conjecture for CP^2 implies the numerical part of Faber's conjecture on the tautological Chow ring of M_g.
We construct topological recursion relations (TRR's) at higher genera $g\ge2$ for general 2-dimensional topological field theories coupled to gravity. These TRR's when combined with Virasoro conditions enable one to determine the number of higher genus holomorphic curves in any Fano varieties. In the case of $CP^2$ we reproduce the known results at genus $g=2$.
We present in this paper a differential version of Mirzakhani's recursion relation for the Weil-Petersson volumes of the moduli spaces of bordered Riemann surfaces. We discover that the differential relation, which is equivalent to the original integral formula of Mirzakhani, is a Virasoro constraint condition on a generating function for these volumes. We also show that the generating function for psi and kappa_1 intersections on the moduli space of stable algebraic curves is a 1-parameter solution to the KdV hierarchy. It recovers the Witten-Kontsevich generating function when the parameter …
This is an expository paper based on the results in [12] and [16]. The main goal is to prove the following two conjectures for genus up to two. (1) Witten's conjecture on the relations between higher spin curves and Gelfand-Dickey Hierarchies. (2) Virasoro conjecture for conformal semisimple Frobenius manifolds.
The main goal of this paper is to prove the following two conjectures for genus up to two: 1. Witten's conjecture on the relations between higher spin curves and Gelfand--Dickey hierarchy. 2. Virasoro conjecture for target manifolds with conformal semisimple Frobenius manifolds. The main technique used in the proof is the invariance of tautological equations under loop group action.
This paper concerns the recent Virasoro conjecture for the theory of stable pairs on a 3-fold proposed by Oblomkov, Okounkov, Pandharipande and the author in arXiv:2008.12514. Here we extend the conjecture to 3-folds with non-$(p,p)$-cohomology and we prove it in two specializations. For the first specialization, we let $S$ be a simply-connected surface and consider the moduli space $P_n(S\times \mathbb{P}^1, n[\mathbb{P}^1])$, which happens to be isomorphic to the Hilbert scheme $S^{[n]}$ of $n$ points on $S$. The Virasoro constraints for stable pairs, in this case, can be formulated entirely…
Bershadsky-Cecotti-Ooguri-Vafa (BCOV) proposed that the B-model of mirror symmetry should be described by a quantum field theory on a Calabi-Yau variety, which they called the Kodaira-Spenser theory (we call it the BCOV theory). This is the first of three papers in which we construct and analyze the quantum BCOV theory. In this paper, we construct the classical field theory on a Calabi-Yau variety of arbitrary dimension; define what it means to give a quantization; analyze the relation Givental's symplectic formalism for Gromov-Witten theory; prove uniqueness of the quantization on an elliptic…
In the Gromov-Witten theory of a target curve we consider descendent integrals against the virtual fundamental class relative to the forgetful morphism to the moduli space of curves. We show that cohomology classes obtained in this way lie in the tautological ring.
Given a smooth target curve $X$, we explore the relationship between Gromov-Witten invariants of $X$ relative to a smooth divisor and orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of the $r$-th root stack along the divisor. We proved that relative invariants are equal to the $r^0$-coefficient of the corresponding orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of $r$-th root stack for $r$ sufficiently large. Our result provides a precise relation between relative and orbifold invariants of target curves generalizing the result of Abramovich-Cadman-Wise to higher genus invariants of curves. Moreover, when $r$ is suffici…
