This paper constructs and studies the Gromov-Witten invariants and their properties for noncompact geometrically bounded symplectic manifolds. Two localization formulas for GW-invariants are also proposed and proved. As applications we get solutions of the generalized string equation and dilation equation and their variants. The more solutions of WDVV equation and quantum products on cohomology groups are also obtained for the symplectic manifolds with finitely dimensional cohomology groups. To realize these purposes we further develop the language introduced by Liu-Tian to describe the virtual moduli cycle (defined by Liu-Tian, Fukaya-Ono, Li-Tian, Ruan and Siebert).

Gromov-Witten invariants and rigidity of Hamiltonian loops with compact support on noncompact symplectic manifolds

In this paper the Gromov-Witten invariants on a class of noncompact symplectic manifolds are defined by combining Ruan-Tian's method with that of McDuff-Salamon. The main point of the arguments is to introduce a method dealing with the transversality problems in the case of noncompact manifolds. Moreover, the techniques are also used to study the topological rigidity of Hamiltonian loops with compact support on a class of noncompact symplectic manifolds.

Witten's Nonabelian Localization for Noncompact Hamiltonian Spaces

For a finite-dimensional (but possibly noncompact) symplectic manifold with a compact group acting with a proper moment map, we show that the square of the moment map is an equivariantly perfect Morse function in the sense of Kirwan, and that the set of critical points of the square of the moment map is a countable discrete union of compact sets. Tropical gluing formulae for Gromov-Witten invariants

We prove two tropical gluing formulae for Gromov-Witten invariants of exploded manifolds, useful for calculating Gromov-Witten invariants of a symplectic manifold using a normal-crossing degeneration. The first formula generalizes the symplectic-sum formula for Gromov-Witten invariants. The second formula is stronger, and also generalizes Kontsevich and Manin's splitting and genus-reduction axioms. Both tropical gluing formulae have versions incorporating gravitational descendants.

Notes for a short lecture series, covering exploded manifolds, the moduli stack of curves in exploded manifolds, and a tropical gluing formula for Gromov-Witten invariants: a gluing formula providing a degeneration formula for Gromov-Witten invariants in normal-crossing degenerations. Hamiltonian Gromov-Witten invariants

In this paper we introduce invariants of semi-free Hamiltonian actions of $S\sp 1$ on compact symplectic manifolds (which satisfy some technical conditions related to positivity) using the space of solutions to certain gauge theoretical equations. These equations generalize at the same time the vortex equations and the holomorphicity equation used in Gromov-Witten theory. In the definition of the invariants we combine ideas coming from gauge theory and the ideas underlying the construction of Gromov-Witten invariants. This paper is based on a part of my PhD Thesis (see math/9912150).

Gluing formula for Gromov-Witten invariants in a triple product

We present a gluing formula for Gromov-Witten invariants in the case of a triple product. This gluing formula is a simple case of a much more general gluing formula proved and stated using exploded manifolds. We present this simple case because it is relatively easy to explain without any knowledge of exploded manifolds or log schemes.

Positive scalar curvature on foliations: the noncompact case

Let $(M,g^{TM})$ be a noncompact (not necessarily complete) enlargeable Riemannian manifold in the sense of Gromov-Lawson and $F$ an integrable subbundle of $T M$ . Let $k^F$ be the leafwise scalar curvature associated to $g^F=g^{TM}|_F$. We show that if either $TM$ or $F$ is spin, then ${\rm inf}(k^F)\leq 0$. This generalizes the famous result of Gromov-Lawson on enlargeable manifolds to the case of foliations. Witten deformation for noncompact manifolds with bounded geometry

Motivated by the Landau-Ginzburg model, we study the Witten deformation on a noncompact manifold with bounded geometry, together with some tameness condition on the growth of the Morse function $f$ near infinity. The goal of this paper is to give an efficient computation of the 3-point Gromov-Witten invariants of Fano hypersurfaces, starting from the Picard-Fuchs equation.
