Evaluation fibrations and topology of symplectomorphisms

There are two main results. The first states that isotropy subgroups of groups acting transitively on a rationally hyperbolic spaces have infinitely generated rational cohomology algebra. Using this fact, we prove that the analogous statement holds for groups of symplectomorphisms of certain blow-ups.

Homotopy decomposition of a group of symplectomorphisms of $S^2 \times S^2$

We continue the analysis, started by Abreu, McDuff and Anjos, of the topology of the group of symplectomorphisms of $S^2 \times S^2$ when the ratio of the areas of the two spheres lies in the interval (1,2]. We express the group, up to homotopy, as the amalgam of certain of its compact Lie subgroups. We use this to compute the homotopy type of the classifying space of the group of symplectomorphisms and the corresponding ring of characteristic classes for symplectic fibrations.

Moment maps, symplectomorphism groups and compatible complex structures

In this paper we apply Donaldson's general moment map framework for the action of a symplectomorphism group on the corresponding space of compatible (almost) complex structures to the case of rational ruled surfaces. This gives a new approach to understanding the topology of their symplectomorphism groups, based on a result of independent interest: the space of compatible integrable complex structures on any symplectic rational ruled surface is (weakly) contractible. Symplectic configurations

We define a class of symplectic fibrations called symplectic configurations. They are natural generalization of Hamiltonian fibrations. Their geometric and topological properties are investigated. We are mainly concentrated on integral symplectic manifolds. We construct the classifyng space \B of symplectic integral configurations. The properties of the classifying map \B --> BSymp(M,w) are examined. On the Topology of Fibrations with Section and Free Loop Spaces

We relate the brace products of a fibration with section to the differentials in its serre spectral sequence. In the particular case of free loop fibrations, we establish a link between these differentials and browder operations in the fiber. Applications and several calculations (for the particular case of spheres and wedges of spheres) are given.

String Topology, Euler Class and TNCZ free loop fibrations

Let $M$ be a connected, closed oriented manifold. Let $ω\in H^m(M)$ be its orientation class. Let $χ(M)$ be its Euler characteristic. Consider the free loop fibration $ΩM\buildrel{i}\over\hookrightarrow LM\buildrel{ev}\over\twoheadrightarrow M$. For any class $a\in H^*(LM)$ of positive degree, we prove that the cup product $χ(M)a\cup ev^*(ω)$ is null. In particular, if $i^*:H^*(LM;\mathbb{F}_p)\twoheadrightarrow H^*(ΩM;\mathbb{F}_p)$ is onto then $χ(M)$ is divisible by $p$ (or $M$ is a point).

Characteristic classes of foliated surface bundles with area-preserving holonomy

Making use of the extended flux homomorphism on the group of symplectomorphisms of a closed oriented surface of genus at least 2, we introduce new characteristic classes of foliated surface bundles with symplectic, equivalently area-preserving, total holonomy. These characteristic classes are stable with respect to the genus and we show that they are highly non-trivial. We also prove that the second homology of the group of Hamiltonian symplectomorphisms equipped with the discrete topology is very large.

On the topology of the Milnor fibration of a hyperplane arrangement

This note is mostly an expository survey, centered on the topology of complements of hyperplane arrangements, their Milnor fibrations, and their boundary structures. An important tool in this study is provided by the degree 1 resonance and characteristic varieties of the complement, and their tight relationship with orbifold fibrations and multinets on the underlying matroid. A Hurewicz Model Structure for Directed Topology

This paper constructs an h-model structure for diagrams of streams, locally preordered spaces. Along the way, the paper extends some classical characterizations of Hurewicz fibrations and closed Hurewicz cofibrations. The usual characterization of classical closed Hurewicz cofibrations as inclusions of neighborhood deformation retracts extends. Geometry of compact lifting spaces

We study a natural generalization of inverse systems of finite regular covering spaces. A limit of such a system is a fibration whose fibres are profinite topological groups. Algebraic monodromy and obstructions to formality

Given a fibration over the circle, we relate the eigenspace decomposition of the algebraic monodromy, the homological finiteness properties of the fiber, and the formality properties of the total space. In the process, we prove a more general result about iterated group extensions. As an application, we obtain new criteria for formality of spaces, and 1-formality of groups, illustrated by bundle constructions and various examples from low-dimensional topology and singularity theory.
