Theory of valuations on manifolds, IV. New properties of the multiplicative structure

This is the fourth part in the series of articles math.MG/0503397, math.MG/0503399, math.MG/0509512 where the theory of valuations on manifolds is developed. The multiplicative structure on polynomial continuous valuations

We introduce a canonical structure of a commutative associative filtered algebra with the unit on polynomial smooth valuations, and study its properties. The induced structure on the subalgebra of translation invariant smooth valuations has especially nice properties (it is the structure of the Frobenius algebra). We also present some applications.

Extensions of translation invariant valuations on polytopes

We study translation invariant, real-valued valuations on the class of convex polytopes in Euclidean space and discuss which continuity properties are sufficient for an extension of such valuations to all convex bodies. For this purpose, we introduce flag support measures of convex bodies via a local Steiner formula and derive some of the properties of these measures.

Log-Concavity Properties of Minkowski Valuations

New Orlicz Brunn-Minkowski inequalities are established for rigid motion compatible Minkowski valuations of arbitrary degree. These extend classical log-concavity properties of intrinsic volumes and generalize seminal results of Lutwak and others. Two different approaches which refine previously employed techniques are explored. It is shown that both lead to the same class of Minkowski valuations for which these inequalities hold. An appendix by Semyon Alesker contains the proof of a new classification of generalized translation invariant valuations.

Valuations on Banach lattices

We provide a general framework for the study of valuations on Banach lattices. This complements and expands several recent works about valuations on function spaces, including $L_p(μ)$, Orlicz spaces and spaces $C(K)$ of continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space. In particular, we study decomposition properties, boundedness and integral representation of continuous valuations.

Laplace transforms and valuations

It is proved that the classical Laplace transform is a continuous valuation which is positively GL$(n)$ covariant and logarithmic translation covariant. Conversely, these properties turn out to be sufficient to characterize this transform.

Hard Lefschetz theorem for valuations and related questions of integral geometry

We study the properties of the multiplicative structure on valuations on convex sets. We prove a new version of the hard Lefschetz theorem for even translation invariant continuous valuations, and discuss related problems of integral geometry. Then we formulate a conjectural analogue of this result for odd valuations.

The support of dually epi-translation invariant valuations on convex functions

We study dually epi-translation invariant valuations on cones of convex functions containing the space of finite-valued convex functions. The existence of a homogeneous decomposition is used to associate a distribution to every valuation of this type similar to the Goodey-Weil embedding for translation invariant valuations on convex bodies. The relation between the valuation and its associated distribution is used to establish a notion of support for valuations.
