We generalize the well-known mean value inequality of subharmonic functions for a slightly more general function class. We also apply this generalized mean value inequality to weighted boundary behavior and nonintegrability questions of subharmonic and superharmonic functions.
We begin by shortly recalling a generalized mean value inequality for subharmonic functions, and two applications of it: first a weighted boundary behavior result (with some new references and remarks), and then a borderline case result to Suzuki's nonintegrability results for superharmonic and subharmonic functions. The main part of the talk consists, however, of partial improvements to Blanchet's removable singularity results for subharmonic, plurisubharmonic and convex functions.
We give a characterization of harmonic and subharmonic functions in terms of their mean values in balls and on spheres. This includes the converse of an inequality of Beardon's for subharmonic functions. We also obtain integral inequalities of Harnack type between these two means in general domains.
First, we give the definition for quasi-nearly subharmonic functions, now for general, not necessarily nonnegative functions, unlike previously. We point out that our function class incudes, among others, quasisubharmonic functions, nearly subharmonic functions (in a slightly generalized sense) and almost subharmonic functions. We also give some basic properties of quasi-nearly subharmonic functions. Second, after recalling some of the existing subharmonicity results of separately subharmonic functions, we give the corresponding counterparts for separately quasi-nearly subharmonic functions, t…
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ be a convex domain and let $f:Ω\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ be a subharmonic function, $Δf \geq 0$, which satisfies $f \geq 0$ on the boundary $\partial Ω$. Then $$ \int_Ω{f ~dx} \leq |Ω|^{\frac{1}{n}} \int_{\partial Ω}{f ~dσ}.$$ Our proof is based on a new gradient estimate for the torsion function, $Δu = -1$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions, which is of independent interest.
The Hermite-Hadamard inequality states that the average value of a convex function on an interval is bounded from above by the average value of the function at the endpoints of the interval. We provide a generalization to higher dimensions: let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ be a convex domain and let $f:Ω\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ be a convex function satisfying $f \big|_{\partial Ω} \geq 0$, then $$ \frac{1}{|Ω|} \int_Ω{f ~d \mathcal{H}^n} \leq \frac{2 π^{-1/2} n^{n+1}}{|\partial Ω|} \int_{\partial Ω}{f~d \mathcal{H}^{n-1}}.$$ The constant $2 π^{-1/2} n^{n+1}$ is presumably far from optimal, however, …
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$, $d \geq 2$, be a bounded convex domain and $f\colon Ω\to \mathbb{R}$ be a non-negative subharmonic function. In this paper we prove the inequality \[ \frac{1}{|Ω|}\int_Ωf(x)\,dx \leq \frac{d}{|\partialΩ|}\int_{\partialΩ} f(x)\,dσ(x)\,. \] Equivalently, the result can be stated as a bound for the gradient of the Saint Venant torsion function. Specifically, if $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$ is a bounded convex domain and $u$ is the solution of $-Δu =1$ with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, then \[ \|\nabla u\|_{L^\infty(Ω)} < d\frac{|Ω|}{|\partialΩ|}\,. \] Moreove…
We study the convexity/concavity properties of the generalized $p$-trigonometric functions in the sense of P. Lindqvist with respect to the power means.
We use the definition of a fractional integral, recently proposed by Katugampola, to establish a generalization of the reverse Minkowski's inequality. We show two new theorems associated with this inequality, as well as state and show other inequalities related to this fractional operator.
Considering the weighted concept of majorization, Sherman obtained generalization of majorization inequality for convex functions known as Sherman's inequality. We extend Sherman's result to the class of n-strongly convex functions using extended idea of convexity to the class of strongly convex functions. We also obtaine upper bound for Sherman's inequality, so called the converse Sherman inequality, and as easy consequences we get Jensen's as well as majorization inequality and their conversions for strongly convex functions. Obtained results are stronger versions for analogous results for c…
A purely analytic proof is given for an inequality that has as a direct consequence the two most important affine isoperimetric inequalities of plane convex geometry: The Blaschke-Santalo inequality and the affine isoperimetric inequality of affine differential geometry.
The aim of this paper is to generalize the Hermite--Hadamard inequality for functions convex on the coordinates. Our composite result generalizes the result of Dragomir in \cite{Drag}. Many other interesting inequalities can be derived from our results by choosing different values of $n\in\mathbb{N}.$ Furthermore, we add to the literature a new result for positive functions convex on the coordinates.
In this paper, we introduce and prove the generalizations of Radon inequality. The proofs in the paper unify and are simpler than those in former work. Meanwhile, we also find mathematical equivalences among the Bernoulli inequality, the weighted AM-GM inequality, the Hölder inequality, the weighted power mean inequality and the Minkowski inequality. Finally, a series of the applications are shown in this note.
The search of the optimal constant for a generalized Wirtinger inequality in an interval consists in minimizing the $p$-norm of the derivative among all functions whose $q$-norm is equal to~1 and whose $(r-1)$-power has zero average. Symmetry properties of minimizers have attracted great attention in mathematical literature in the last decades, leading to a precise characterization of symmetry and asymmetry regions. In this paper we provide a proof of the symmetry result without computer assisted steps, and a proof of the asymmetry result which works as well for local minimizers. As a conseque…
In the paper, we introduce the generalized convex function on fractal sets of real line numbers and study the properties of the generalized convex function. Based on these properties, we establish the generalized Jensen inequality and generalized Hermite-Hadamard inequality. Furthermore, some applications are given.
We prove existence of positive solutions to a nonlinear fractional boundary value problem. Then, under some mild assumptions on the nonlinear term, we obtain a smart generalization of Lyapunov's inequality. The new results are illustrated through examples.
For a normed linear space $(X,|\cdot|)$ and $p>0$ we characterize all $n$-tuples $(μ_1,...,μ_n)\in\mathbb{R}^{n}$ for which the generalized triangle inequality of the second type $$\|x_1+...+x_n\|^p\leq\frac{|x_1|^p}{μ_1}+...+\frac{|x_n|^p}{μ_n}$$ holds for any $x_1,...,x_n\in X$. We also characterize $(μ_1,...,μ_n)\in\mathbb{R}^{n}$ for which the reverse of the inequality above holds.
We focus on eventually non-linear abstract Cauchy problems with a generalized fractional derivative in time. First we prove a local existence and uniqueness result, then we focus on a generalized Grönwall inequality. Before addressing the inequality, we study some properties of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the generalized fractional derivatives. Finally, we prove some consequences of the generalized Grönwall inequality.
Famous Redheffer's inequality is generalized to a class of anti-periodic functions. We apply the novel inequality to the generalized trigonometric functions and establish several Redheffer-type inequalities for these functions.
We give several inequalities on generalized entropies involving Tsallis entropies, using some inequalities obtained by improvements of Young's inequality. We also give a generalized Han's inequality.
