We study the operator $L=-Δ+q$ on a bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb R^n$, where $q(x)$ is a distributional potential. We find sufficient conditions for $q(x)$ which guarantee that $L$ is well--defined with Dirichlet and generalized Neumann boundary conditions. The asymptotics of the eigenvalues and the basis properties of the eigen- and associated functions of such operators are studied. The results are generalized for strongly elliptic operator of order $2m$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Self-adjointness of Schroedinger operators with singular potentials

We study one-dimensional Schroedinger operators S with real-valued distributional potentials q in W^{-1}_{2,loc}(R) and prove an extension of the Povzner-Wienholtz theorem on self-adjointness of bounded below S thus providing additional information on its domain. The results are further specified for q in W^{-1}_{2,unif}(R).

Strongly elliptic operators with distributional coefficients

We study operators of the form $$ L=\sum_{|α|,|β|\le n} D^αc_{α,β} D^β, x\in\mathbb R^n $$ provided that the coefficients of the main symbol corresponding to the indices $|α|=|β|=m$ are continuous while the other ones are distributions. Assuming that the main symbol defines the strongly elliptic operator we find sufficient conditions for the coefficients $c_{α,β}(x)$ which guarantee that the operator $L$ is well defined. 1D Schrödinger operators with short range interactions: two-scale regularization of distributional potentials

For real bounded functions Φand Ψof compact support, we prove the norm resolvent convergence, as εand νtend to 0, of a family of one-dimensional Schroedinger operators on the line of the form S_{ε, ν}= -D^2+αε^{-2}Φ(ε^{-1}x)+βν^{-1}Ψ(ν^{-1}x), provided the ratio ν/εhas a finite or infinity limit. The limit operator S_0 depends on the shape of Φand Ψas well as on the limit of ratio ν/ε. If the potential αΦpossesses a zero-energy resonance, then S_0 describes a non trivial point interaction at the origin. Otherwise S_0 is the direct sum of the Dirichlet half-line Schroedinger operators.

Quasilinear elliptic equations and weighted Sobolev-Poincaré inequalities with distributional weights

We introduce a class of weak solutions to the quasilinear equation $-Δ_p u = σ|u|^{p-2}u$ in an open set $Ω\subset\mathbf{R}^n$. Here $p>1$, and $Δ_p u$ is the $p$-Laplacian operator. Our notion of solution is tailored to general distributional coefficients $σ$ satisfying a certain weighted Sobolev-Poincare inequality. We also study weak solutions of the closely related equation $-Δ_p v = (p-1)|\nabla v|^p + σ$, under the same conditions on $σ$. Evolution systems for paraxial wave equations of Schroedinger-type with non-smooth coefficients

We prove existence of strongly continuous evolution systems in L^2 for Schroedinger-type equations with non-Lipschitz coefficients in the principal part. The underlying operator structure is motivated from models of paraxial approximations of wave propagation in geophysics. Thus, the evolution direction is a spatial coordinate (depth) with additional pseudodifferential terms in time and low regularity in the lateral variables. We give explicit necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness of the general second order differential operator L with real- or complex-valued distributional coefficients acting from the Sobolev space W^{1,2}(R^n) to its dual W^{-1,2}(R^n).
