In Arakelov theory a completion of an arithmetic surface is achieved by enlarging the group of divisors by formal linear combinations of the ``closed fibers at infinity''. Manin described the dual graph of any such closed fiber in terms of an infinite tangle of bounded geodesics in a hyperbolic handlebody endowed with a Schottky uniformization. In this paper we consider arithmetic surfaces over the ring of integers in a number field, with fibers of genus $g\geq 2$. We use Connes' theory of spectral triples to relate the hyperbolic geometry of the handlebody to Deninger's Archimedean cohomology and the cohomology of the cone of the local monodromy $N$ at arithmetic infinity as introduced by the first author of this paper.
We introduce the p-adic analogue of Arakelov intersection theory on arithmetic surfaces. The intersection pairing in an extension of the p-adic height pairing for divisors of degree 0 in the form described by Coleman and Gross. It also uses Coleman integration and is related to work of Colmez on p-adic Green functions. We introduce the p-adic version of a metrized line bundle and define the metric on the determinant of its cohomology in the style of Faltings. It is possible to prove in this theory analogues of the Adjunction formula and the Riemann-Roch formula.
The Hodge numerical invariants of a variation of Hodge structure over a smooth quas--projective variety are a measure of complexity for the global twisting of the limit mixed Hodge structure when it degenerates. These invariants appear in inequalities which they may have correction terms, called Arakelov inequalities. One may investigate the correction term to make them into equalities, also called Arakelov equalities. We investigate numerical Arakelov type (in)equilities for a family of surfaces fibered by curves. Our method uses Arakelov identities in a weight 1 and also in a weight 2 variat…
Let G be a commutative algebraic group over Q. Let Gamma be a subgroup of G(Q) contained in the union of the compact subgroups of G(Q_p). We formulate a guess for the dimension of the closure of Gamma in G(Q_p), and show that its correctness for certain tori is equivalent to Leopoldt's conjecture.
Let $G$ be a commutative algebraic group defined over a number field $K$ that is disjoint over $K$ to $\mathbb G_a$ and satisfies the condition of semistability. Consider a linear form $l$ on the Lie algebra of $G$ with algebraic coefficients and an algebraic point $u$ in a $p$-adic neighbourhood of the origin with the condition that $l$ does not vanish at $u$. We give a lower bound for the $p$-adic absolute value of $l(u)$ which depends up to an effectively computable constant only on the height of the linear form, the height of the point $u$ and $p$.
The aim of this paper is to propose an ``elementary" approach to Coleman's theory of p-adic abelian integrals. Our main tool is a theory of commutative p-adic Lie groups (the logarithm map); we use neither dagger analysis nor Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology theory. Notice that we also treat the case of bad reduction. A preliminary version of this paper appeared as Exposé 9 dans ``Problemes Diophantiens 88-89" (D. Bertrand, M. Waldschmidt), Publ. Math. Univ. Paris VI 90(1990), 15 pp.
We discuss examples of non-commutative spaces over non-archimedean fields. Those include non-commutative and quantum affinoid algebras, quantized K3 surfaces and quantized locally analytic p-adic groups.
We consider the rigid monoidal category of character sheaves on a smooth commutative group scheme $G$ over a finite field $k$ and expand the scope of the function-sheaf dictionary from connected commutative algebraic groups to this setting. We find the group of isomorphism classes of character sheaves on $G$ and show that it is an extension of the group of characters of $G(k)$ by a cohomology group determined by the component group scheme of $G$. We also classify all morphisms in the category character sheaves on $G$. As an application, we study character sheaves on Greenberg transforms of loc…
Let $\k$ be a commutative ring, and let $(A,\mfrak{a})$ be an adic ring which is a $\k$-algebra. We study complete and torsion versions of the derived Hochschild homology and cohomology functors of $A$ over $\k$. To do this, we first establish weak proregularity of certain ideals in flat base changes of noetherian rings. Next, we develop a theory of DG-affine formal schemes, extending the Greenlees-May duality and the MGM equivalence to this setting. Finally, we define complete and torsion derived Hochschild homology and cohomology functors in this setting, and show that if $\k$ is noetherian …
In this paper, we will generalize some results in Manin's paper "Three-dimensional hyperbolic geometry as $\infty$-adic Arakelov geometry" to the supergeometric setting. More precisely, viewing $\mathbb{C}^{1|1}$ as the boundary of the hyperbolic superspace $\mathcal{H}^{3|2}$, we reexpress the super-Green functions on the supersphere $\hat{\mathbb{C}}^{1|1}$ and the supertorus $T^{1|1}$ by some data derived from the supergeodesics in $\mathcal{H}^{3|2}$.
We study local-global questions for Galois cohomology over the function field of a curve defined over a p-adic field (a field of cohomological dimension 3). We define Tate-Shafarevich groups of a commutative group scheme via cohomology classes locally trivial at each completion of the base field coming from a closed point of the curve. In the case of a torus we establish a perfect duality between the first Tate-Shafarevich group of the torus and the second Tate-Shafarevich group of the dual torus. As an application, we show that the failure of the local-global principle for rational points on …
Eventually after Dieudonné-Grothendieck, we give intrinsic definitions of étale, lisse and non-ramifié morphisms for general adic rings and general locally convex rings. And we investigate the corresponding étale-like, lisse-like and non-ramifié-like morphisms for general $\infty$-Banach, $\infty$-Borné and $\infty$-ind-Fréchet $\infty$-rings and $\infty$-functors into $\infty$-groupoid (as in the work of Bambozzi-Ben-Bassat-Kremnizer) in some intrinsic way by using the corresponding infinitesimal stacks and crystalline stacks. The two directions of generalization will intersect at Huber's boo…
Hom-Lie algebras are non-associative algebras generalizing Lie algebras by twisting the Jacobi identity by an endomorphism. The main examples are algebras of twisted derivations (i.e., linear maps with a generalized Leibniz rule). Such generalized derivations seem to pop up in different guises in many parts of number theory and arithmetic geometry. In fact, any place something like $\mathrm{id}-ϕ$, where $ϕ$ is (possibly extended to) a ring morphism, appears, such as in $p$-adic Hodge theory, Iwasawa theory, e.t.c., there is a twisted derivation hiding. Therefore, hom-Lie algebras appear to ha…
According to the holography principle (due to G.`t Hooft, L. Susskind, J. Maldacena, et al.), quantum gravity and string theory on certain manifolds with boundary can be studied in terms of a conformal field theory on the boundary. Only a few mathematically exact results corroborating this exciting program are known. In this paper we interpret from this perspective several constructions which arose initially in the arithmetic geometry of algebraic curves. We show that the relation between hyperbolic geometry and Arakelov geometry at arithmetic infinity involves exactly the same geometric data …
For a flat commutative $k$-algebra $A$ such that the enveloping algebra $A\otimes_k A$ is noetherian, given a finitely generated bimodule $M$, we show that the adic completion of the Hochschild cohomology module $HH^n(A/k,M)$ is naturally isomorphic to $HH^n(\widehat{A}/k,\widehat{M})$. To show this, we (1) make a detailed study of derived completion as a functor $D(A) \to D(\widehat{A})$ over a non-noetherian ring $A$; (2) prove a flat base change result for weakly proregular ideals; and (3) Prove that Hochschild cohomology and analytic Hochschild cohomology of complete noetherian local rings…
This is my habilitation thesis. As the tradition wants, I tried to give an introduction of my field of research. I post it on the ArXiv with the hope it can be useful to young researchers looking for a short and friendly text on cohomologies of algebraic varieties, periods, algebraic cycles and motives. I might one day find the energy to expand these notes and maybe translate them in English. In the meantime, please feel free to ask questions. The first sections of this text propose an introduction to the theory, I tried to present points of view and examples which are not always stressed in t…
We shall describe a simple generalization of commutative rings. The category GR of such "rings", contains the ordinary commutative rings (fully faithfully), but also the "integers" and "residue field" at a real or complex place of a field ; the "field with one element" (the initial object of GR ); the "arithmetical surface" ( the sum in the category GR of the integers with them self: Z(x)Z ) . We shall show that this geometry "see" the real and complex places of a number field (there is an Ostrowski theorem that the valuation sub-GR of a number field correspond to the finite and infinite prime…
