In this paper we determine the asymptotics of the determinant of Bessel operators for sufficiently smooth generating functions. These operators are similar to Wiener-Hopf operators with the Fourier transform replaced by the Hankel transform and thus the asymptotics of the determinanst are similar to the well-known Szegö-Akhiezer-Kac formula for truncated Wiener-Hopf determinants. In order to compute the above, we also show that the Bessel operators differ from the Wiener-Hopf by a Hilbert-Schmidt operator.
In Random Matrix Theory the local correlations of the Laguerre and Jacobi Unitary Ensemble in the hard edge scaling limit can be described in terms of the Bessel kernel (containing a parameter $α$). In particular, the so-called hard edge gap probabilities can be expressed as the Fredholm determinants of the corresponding integral operator restricted to the finite interval [0, R]. Using operator theoretic methods we are going to compute their asymptotics as R goes to infinity under certain assumption on the parameter $α$.
We obtain "large gap" asymptotics for a Fredholm determinant with a confluent hypergeometric kernel. We also obtain asymptotics for determinants with two types of Bessel kernels which appeared in random matrix theory.
The authors use Riemann-Hilbert methods to compute the constant that arises in the asymptotic behavior of the Airy-kernel determinant of random matrix theory.
We develop a new technique for computing a class of four-point correlation functions of heavy half-BPS operators in planar N=4 SYM theory which admit factorization into a product of two octagon form factors with an arbitrary bridge length. We show that the octagon can be expressed as the Fredholm determinant of the integrable Bessel operator and demonstrate that this representation is very efficient in finding the octagons both at weak and strong coupling. At weak coupling, in the limit when the four half-BPS operators become null separated in a sequential manner, the octagon obeys the Toda la…
We compute the asymptotics of a block Toeplitz determinant which arises in the classical dimer model for the triangular lattice when considering the monomer-monomer correlation function. The model depends on a parameter interpolating between the square lattice ($t=0$) and the triangular lattice ($t=1$), and we obtain the asymptotics for $0<t\le 1$. For $0<t<1$ we apply the Szegö Limit Theorem for block Toeplitz determinants. The main difficulty is to evaluate the constant term in the asymptotics, which is generally given only in a rather abstract form.
With localization techniques one can obtain general limit theorems for Toeplitz determinants with Fisher-Hartwig singularities from the asymptotics for any symbol with one singularity of general type. There exists a family of these for which the determinants can be evaluated explicitly and their asymptotics determined. But for the Wiener-Hopf analogue, although there are likely analogous localization techniques, there is not a single example known of a symbol with Fisher-Hartwig singularity for which the determinant can be evaluated explicitly. In this paper we determine the asymptotics of Wie…
We study the asymptotics in n for n-dimensional Toeplitz determinants whose symbols possess Fisher-Hartwig singularities on a smooth background. We prove the general non-degenerate asymptotic behavior as conjectured by Basor and Tracy. We also obtain asymptotics of Hankel determinants on a finite interval as well as determinants of Toeplitz+Hankel type. Our analysis is based on a study of the related system of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle using the Riemann-Hilbert approach.
We provide an alternative proof of the classical single-term asymptotics for Toeplitz determinants whose symbols possess Fisher-Hartwig singularities. We also relax the smoothness conditions on the regular part of the symbols and obtain an estimate for the error term in the asymptotics. Our proof is based on the Riemann-Hilbert analysis of the related systems of orthogonal polynomials and on differential identities for Toeplitz determinants. The result discussed in this paper is crucial for the proof of the asymptotics in the general case of Fisher-Hartwig singularities and extensions to Hanke…
In this paper we obtain the non - asymptotic estimations for Riesz's and Bessel's potential integral operators in the so - called Bilateral Grand Lebesgue Spaces. We also give examples to show the sharpness of these inequalities.
We obtain an asymptotic formula for $n\times n$ Toeplitz determinants as $n\to \infty$, for real valued symbols with any fixed number of Fisher-Hartwig singularities, which is uniform with respect to the location of the singularities. As an application, we prove a conjecture by Fyodorov and Keating regarding moments of averages of the characteristic polynomial of the Circular Unitary Ensemble. In addition, we obtain an asymptotic formula regarding the momentum of impenetrable bosons in one dimension with periodic boundary conditions.
We study extremal properties of the determinant of Friederichs selfadjoint Laplacian on the Euclidean isosceles triangle envelopes of fixed area as a function of angles. Small-angle asymptotics show that the determinant grows without any bound as an angle of triangle envelope goes to zero. We prove that the equilateral triangle envelope (the most symmetrical geometry) always gives rise to a critical point of the determinant and find the critical value. Moreover, if the area of envelopes is not too large, then the determinant achieves its absolute minimum only on the equilateral triangle envelo…
An asymptotic formula is found for a Toeplitz determinant with the symbol supported on an arc of the unit circle in the case when the symbol has Fisher-Hartwig singularities.
In previous work of C. A. Tracy and the author asymptotic formulas were derived for certain operator determinants whose interest lay in the fact that quotients of them gave solutions to the cylindrical Toda equations. In the present paper we consider a more general class of operators which retain some of the properties of those cited and we find analogous asymptotics for the determinants
In this paper we determine the asymptotics of the determinants of truncated Wiener-Hopf plus Hankel operators $\det(W_R(a)\pm H_R(a))$ as $R$ tends to infinity for symbols $a(x)=(x^2/(1+x^2))^β$ with the parameter $β$ being of small size.
We prove asymptotic formulas for Toeplitz determinants generated by functions with sequences of Fourier coefficients belonging to weighted Orlicz sequence classes. We concentrate our attention on the case of nonvanishing generating functions with nonzero Cauchy index.
In this expository article we describe the asymptotics of certain Fredholm determinants which provide solutions to the cylindrical Toda equations, and we explain how these asymptotics are derived. The connection with Fredholm determinants arising in the theory of random matrices, and their asymptotics, are also discussed.
We establish asymptotic formulas for the determinants of finite Toeplitz + Hankel matrices of size N, as N goes to infinity for singular generating functions defined on the unit circle in the special case where the generating function is even, i.e., where the Toeplitz + Hankel matrices are symmetric.
Some inequalities in 2-inner product spaces generalizing Bessel's result that are similar to the Boas-Bellman inequality from inner product spaces, are given. Applications for determinantal integral inequalities are also provided.
We prove that the asymptotics of the Fredholm determinant of $I-K_α$, where $K_α$ is the integral operator with the sine kernel $\sin(x-y)/(x-y)/π$ on the interval $[0,α]$ is given by a formula which was conjectured by F.J. Dyson. The first and second order asymptotics as well as the higher order asymptotics except for the constant term have already been proved. In this paper we thus determine the constant term.
In work of C. A. Tracy and the author asymptotic formulas were derived for certain operator determinants which gave solutions to the cylindrical Toda equations. Later the author considered a more general class of operators which retained some of the properties of those cited and found analogous asymptotics for the determinants. These results applied only in what we call the regular case, when the symbol of an associated convolution operator is nonzero and has zero index. The present work goes further and establishes asymptotics for a class of singular cases.
We compute the asymptotics of the determinants of certain $n\times n$ Toeplitz + Hankel matrices $T_n(a)+H_n(b)$ as $n\to\infty$ with symbols of Fisher-Hartwig type. More specifically we consider the case where $a$ has zeros and poles and where $b$ is related to $a$ in specific ways. Previous results of Deift, Its and Krasovsky dealt with the case where $a$ is even. We are generalizing this in a mild way to certain non-even symbols.
In this paper we are going to prove two asymptotic formulas for determinants det(I-K_s), as s goes to infinity, where K_s are the Wiener-Hopf-Hankel operators acting on L^2[0,s] with the kernels K(x-y)+K(x+y) and K(x-y)-K(x+y), respectively, and K(t):=sin(t)/(π*t). These formulas were conjectured by Dyson. The identification of the constant term in the asymptotics was an open problem for a long time.
The purpose of this paper is to describe asymptotic formulas for determinants of a sum of finite Toeplitz and Hankel matrices with singular generating functions. The formulas are similar to those of the analogous problem for finite Toeplitz matrices for a certain class of symbols. However, the appearance of the Hankel matrices changes the nature of the asymptotics in some instances depending on the location of the singularities. Several concrete examples are also described in the paper.
We investigate the short-time expansion of the heat kernel of a Laplace type operator on a compact Riemannian manifold and show that the lowest order term of this expansion is given by the Fredholm determinant of the Hessian of the energy functional on a space of finite energy paths. This is the asymptotic behavior to be expected from formally expressing the heat kernel as a path integral and then (again formally) using Laplace's method on the integral. We also relate this to the zeta determinant of the Jacobi operator, which is another way to assign a determinant to the Hessian of the energy …
