We prove that the sequence of projective representations of the mapping class group obtained from the projective flat connection in the SU(n)-Verlinde bundles over Teichmuller space is asymptotically faithful, that is the intersection over all levels of the kernels of these representations is trivial, whenever the genus of the underlying surface is at least 3. For the genus 2 case, this intersection is exactly the order two subgroup, generated by the hyper-elliptic involution, in the case of even degree and $n=2$. Otherwise the intersection is also trivial in the genus 2 case.

Asymptotic Faithfulness of Quantum $\mathrm{Sp}(4)$ Mapping Class Group Representations

We prove asymptotic faithfulness for the quantum $\mathrm{Sp}(4)$ mapping class group representation. This provides the first example of asymptotic faithfulness lying outside of the $A_n$ family. The methods used are generalized from the proof of asymptotic faithfulness for skein $SU(2)_k$ mapping class group representations. In short, for any noncentral mapping class a comparison vector is found which allows for the mapping class to be detected.

Comparing Skein and Quantum Group Representations and Their Application to Asymptotic Faithfulness

We generalize the asymptotic faithfulness of the skein quantum $SU(2)$ representations of mapping class groups of orientable closed surfaces to skein $SU(3)$. The Nielsen-Thurston classification of mapping classes is determined by TQFT

For each fixed n>=2 we show how the Nielsen-Thurston classification of mapping classes for a closed surface of genus g>=2 is determined by the sequence of quantum SU(n) representations, when one considers all levels. That this is the case is a consequence of our asymptotic faithfulness property. We here provide explicit conditions on the image under these representations, which determines the Nielsen-Thurston type of any mapping class.

Some asymptotics of TQFT via skein theory

For each oriented surface $Σ$ of genus $g$ we study a limit of quantum representations of the mapping class group arising in TQFT derived from the Kauffman bracket. We determine that these representations converge in the Fell topology to the representation of the mapping class group on $\boH(Σ)$, the space of regular functions on the $SL(2,\C)$ representation variety with its hermitian structure coming from the symplectic structure of the SU(2)-representation variety. As a corollary, we give a new proof of the asymptotic faithfulness of quantum representations.

Mapping class group invariant unitarity of the Hitchin connection over Teichmüller space

We provide a geometric construction of the unitary structure which is projectively preserved by the Hitchin connection. We analyze the asymptotic behavior of it and we establish that it is uniformly in the level equivalent to the Hermitian structure induced by the L2 inner product on smooth sections.

The representations depend on a complex number A with |A| <= 1 and act on an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. We investigate the rigidity and asymptotic properties of quantum SU(2) representations of mapping class groups. In the spherical braid group case the trivial representation is not isolated in the family of quantum SU(2) representations. The Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants of finite order mapping tori I

We formulate the Asymptotic Expansion Conjecture for the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev quantum invariants of closed oriented three manifolds.
